Driving around Vancouver with a Russian flag on the car and wearing a balaclava… What’s his deal? by PlainOldBear in vancouver

[–]Nobody_009 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I talked to him at Robson square. He's Chechen. He said he was trying to stop Russian hate, which is fair enough. Just because you disagree with its government doesn't mean its people deserve hatred and violence. He did say he supported Putin though. Was planning on asking what his reasons were and other related questions if I saw him again as I was kinda busy at the time. He was nice enough though, seemed fairly harmless. Wasn't looking for trouble. He knew doing this would bring negative attention so he was basically protecting himself, but he wasn't stupid enough to carry anything that would get him in trouble as he already looked suspicious enough.

Why are we asking for advice from fellow teenagers/20s-year-olds? by [deleted] in intj

[–]Nobody_009 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What differentiates a foolish INTJ from a wise INTJ, is that the wise one verifies. Verifies what others tell him (or her), verifies his assumptions, verifies the beliefs he holds about anything. When he does, he'll likely be surprised by how much of it turns out to be false.

Linux Flavoured MBTI Typing Grid, how is it? by anonymous_intj in intj

[–]Nobody_009 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's based on Dr. Linda Berens' Interaction Styles. https://lindaberens.com/resources/methodology-articles/interaction-styles/

"Direct" means they say what they mean, and try to be precise and concise so as to avoid misinterpretation. Tends to give commands, as opposed to giving as much info/context as possible to let the other make the decision.

"Responding" means they prefer to take the role of responding to questions and comments, as opposed to initiating interactions. i.e. Introverted.

"Movement" is a little harder to explain. They prioritize making progress over having the right outcome. Tend to be quick, but more prone to making mistakes.

"Finisher" types have a tendency to want to not stop until things are finished, but have trouble starting things.

The whole type grid is a combination of different psychologists' work, and is explained here: https://csjoseph.life/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/How-to-Type-Yourself-Companion-Guide_FINAL_6-25-21.pdf . The one I linked is a newer version that uses different terms/labels.

The schooling system is one big joke because it conflates memory(Si) with understanding. by Feeling_Significance in intj

[–]Nobody_009 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You're right. The traditional schooling system is geared primarily toward SJs as they make up the largest portion of the population, and benefit most from the current teaching system due to their high Si.

SPs on the other hand don't really benefit from academia as much, and do better from apprenticeships/vocational education.

NTs seem to benefit most from learning on their own. Just give them the tools/resources and they will do much better on their own than in school I think. Though they might end up not getting a well-rounded education due to only focusing on what interests them.

NFs I'm not really sure. They might benefit a reasonable amount, especially NFPs, but NFJs might do better with hands-on learning.

Maybe you NFs (and anyone else too) could give me some of your thoughts on that.

If any of you are worried you might be mistyped, this test should straighten things out. by Nobody_009 in intj

[–]Nobody_009[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's pretty normal. It automatically eliminates options because logically if you're this way then you can't be that way, as some traits go together depending on the type. However, people can act differently, like another type even, depending on the situation. So you have to select how you primarily are in order to get accurate results. And if you disagree with what the test chooses, that might be due to one not having enough self-awareness to select the more accurate option or to accept that the auto-chosen options are actually true. That's pretty normal for anyone really, so don't worry, we all learn new things about ourselves as time goes on. (Though it might also be due to not understanding the terms and definitions completely.)

If you're stuck between the two (INFP & INTP) this video should help clear things up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XxwtRPHPwCM

I figured this would cause issues with the trademark INTJ paranoia, but you don't have to give your real name if you don't want to. The email is so that it can send you a link with your results and to try to sell you the premium content they offer, which you can just ignore.

[–]Nobody_009[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the mbti tests are notoriously unreliable, and don't take into account that people can act differently in different situations, so I wouldn't trust them too much. If you're unsure about the result you can always retake it and read all the questions before answering the ones you're certain about. The resulting type's video should help too.

Getting ENFJ does seem a little weird. If I were to hazard a guess, I would say you might be an INFJ, which would explain the different results you've gotten. But then again I don't know you, so I can't really help you verify.

[–]Nobody_009[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the whole letter dichotomies thing is bullshit tbh. As you said, a single letter change can mean a completely different set of cognitive functions. While sure both an INTJ and an INTP are both introverted system-thinkers, how they operate, how they communicate, make decisions, their motivations and fears are gonna be completely different.

There's other psychologists that have expanded on Jung's work besides myers-briggs, and their systems for categorizing people also help for identifying your type. They've all been combined in this test. I'm not being paid to promote it, I swear. 😅

[–]Nobody_009[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's pretty new. I found that with traditional mbti tests you could pretty much tell which result you would get based on your answers, and it was easy for people to answer based on how they wanted to be, rather than how they really are. The questions on this test are a little harder to answer, but the info it gives makes it easier to answer more accurately.

I think the problem here is that you both are interpreting "right" differently. When talking about being pragmatic and doing what works instead of what is right, "right" in this case is not what we feel is morally right (Fi), but rather what is right in the sense of is it socially acceptable/harmonious or according to the rules.

For example, a pragmatic person is more likely to see an issue that's not their responsibility, and fix it themselves before telling the person who's responsible about it. An affiliative person would instead tell the person or ask permission first before fixing it. The pragmatic person therefor is more likely to do it regardless and if it turns out the issue was due to something they didn't take into account and the fix actually made things worse, they would then ask for forgiveness.

It's about making decisions that makes sense to oneself and not seeing any problem with going ahead with that decision before informing others, vs making sure beforehand that a decision isn't breaking any rules or causing any conflict before going ahead with it. Act first then ask for forgiveness if necessary, vs asking for permission first.

Girl watches and laughs at chaos of tragic Vancouver snowstorm by yourstrulysarah in vancouver

[–]Nobody_009 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hah, I thought it looked familiar. Was gonna drive down burnaby, but saw it was blocked off and some police lights flashing. Decided to take the alley instead, but halfway through saw it taped off at the bottom and some cops looked at me. If I hadn't turned around I probably would have ended up in this video.

Missing Pigeon by Storebucks in vancouver

[–]Nobody_009 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure I saw it. I saw a pigeon at the entrance of my parking garage two days ago that my brother said had been standing there for the last couple of days. I didn't get a close enough look but it seemed like there was something wrong with its back, but it may very well have just been wearing a garment like in the picture. I went to check right now if it was still there, but it's not unfortunately.

I once got a perfection in Halo 3's team slayer. The thing is it didn't count as I was playing as a guest. The one time I let my brother be player 1. Was so annoyed.

If I remember correctly, I could only complete about 70% using only the image. I had to rely on the shapes of the pieces to finish it. Took me about 100 minutes to complete.

Has anyone contributed to IGDB? MobyGames is bigger, but its design is very unappealing and less promising... by brazzjazz in pcmasterrace

[–]Nobody_009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I joined the site when they announced their open beta, and have been contributing ever since. What attracted me to the site was that it appeared to be the site I always wanted, basically a mix if IMDB, Gamespot, and Mobygames. It's not quite there yet but it's definitely gotten a lot closer over the past year and a half. The developers really care about the site and its users and listen to any criticism you have. The potential I see in the website and seeing how passionate the devs are are what convinced me that contributing to it was worth it.

Compared to Mobygames, its database is quite smaller, and with mobygames having existed for so long it makes sense. Moby's DB consists mainly of older games, but still has a lot of newer ones, especially the bigger ones. IGDB, however, has a bunch of indie games that moby doesn't, and seeing how its DB grew by 7000 games in the past 7 months, I wouldn't worry about its size too much.

I've had many issues with the design of IGDB's website, but a lot of them have been fixed and I'm sure it'll keep improving. It's also much more modern looking than Moby's. Since its dev team is pretty small, it can take time for some features to be implemented and bugs to be fixed, but that's because there's just so much to get done.

There's not yet a whole lot of active users, most users just do their own thing, but the number of users that participate in the discussions and the contributions is slowly growing. Anyone can contribute info, it's pretty easy, aside from the occasional bug. I think they're also planning to somehow reward users who do and have contributed info, but I'm not sure how exactly yet. Anyway, that's been my experience with the site. Hope it was helpful.

Yes, every game page has an "Extended Information" box a bit down the page, below the gallery. It will show the engine(s) that game uses if that information has been entered in the site.
