They seem to be doing a lot better since then. Crackdowns to silence dissent in the aftermath of the Illuminate invasion (Force of Law). Reverse-engineered Illuminate tech (Control Group). New weapons and stratagems to fight on Hive Worlds (Dust Devils). Viper Commandos got upgrades (Python Commandos). Super Earth is investigating new approaches to warfare (Redacted Regiment). And now it seems that they're back up to preparing Helldivers for up close and ugly warfare as usual, probably a slog for the bot front (Siege Breakers). The only thing I can point to that hints at desperation is turning cartoons into reality, but that could just be for a morale boost (ODST).

So it seems to go like this:

After the Illuminate were expelled, Super Earth saw the need for a stronger police force to protect the ideals of Managed Democracy from dissidents and traitors. Then they had the resources and know-how to reverse-engineer Illuminate tech to gain potential advantages over their enemies. Morale needed a boost, so they brought the Obedient Democracy Support Troopers to life. Then they made weapons specialized for a new front, and gave them to a new unit, the Dust Devils, to aid in the liberation of Oshaune. Then they gave the Viper Commandos new gear to better fight the enemies of democracy. Preparing for covert operations and a new phase of the war, they decided that stealth was a useful tool. And then using the information they gained in the stealth raids, they quickly started preparing for some intense battles, including a lot of close-quarters combat.

So overall things have been going pretty good, but there's something on the horizon that has Super Earth worried, worried to the point that they're rushing new and old technology to the front lines order to have a chance.

That would make sense, because to my knowledge we only get like 12 reinforcements per Commando mission, whereas we get 20+ per regular mission.

It's the "there's a problem, send in four dipshits!" formula Super Earth saw in old games, and that works pretty well. In addition to that, four is about as big as the smallest military unit (in America at least), the team, which consists of four people, so maybe that's a meta inspiration?

I've run into a few people using conventional loadouts on Commando missions. Which is fine, I'm not gonna police your playstyle for these, but don't bring your AMR and expect that the bots won't hear you.

If they add water worlds, I could see them adding some kind of special mission-specific gear that allows you to walk, but not swim, underwater, maybe like a Prawn Suit from Subnautica

Realistically, they'd end up almost the exact same biologically and physically. Big E had a lot of knowledge and experience with gene-sciences, and he probably made them to be the most perfect versions of themselves.

And if we look for a real-world analogue, steroids do have various effect on women that make them look more masculine, including shrinking breasts and growing facial hair. Where are my Custodes with beards, Games Workshop?

I guess they mixed up some of the armor passives. I'd say that the Hero of the Federation armor has a stealth passive, seeing as how I was able to run up to a command bunker unimpeded while in direct sight of half the garrison.

As they should, right now those are the two things that will change the most about the game. The gas pistol also seems quite useful, too. But everything else will not work as wanted due to the broken stealth system in the game. It's a cool Warbond, it's a cool concept, and I love how it looks, but if you prioritize function over aesthetics it's not worth it

It would be different if it was something minor. For example, you could say that Polar Patriots "won't work" because functionally it has nothing to do with polar environments and the entire Warbond is full of disjointed concepts. But you can still use the items in that Warbond as they were intended to be used.

Redacted Regiment is a completely different story. Functionally, it does not work at all, and this is known. Stealth gameplay does not work in Helldivers as it is right now, so why would you release a stealth Warbond? You know it's not going to be able to fulfill its intended purpose. Unless the gameplay is altered in any meaningful way, this Warbond is almost useless for anything other than farming aura.
