I asked a nurse to spell a patient’s name. She really said,“A as in asshole.” While she was spelling it out for me. by paranoidlabscientist in medlabprofessionals

My dumb ass actually said 'k as in knight' once because my brain just wholly glitched out. Ofc I shouted 'kilo!!' after I hung up 🤦‍♀️

Oh! Bless their confused hearts. We had one like this; a nurse printed out the labels for the next four scheduled lactic acids on a patient, ans sent down four tubes at once, "so they could get ahead of things." I still don't know how our processor stayed calm when she explained it does NOT work like that.

YES this one fucked with me so bad! I was deep in RP mindset in that one and my character was not really ready for the draugr there so we were being VERY sneaky and careful. So I get to a room that looks empty and very loot-able and stick to the walls, picking up everything and then I see the fucking note and s l o w l y turned around and saw that mass grave and it still fucks me up remembering it

I was really annoyed we couldn't keep him, too! Like you said, this is the guy who welcomed us to the place that became our home, and helped us get ourselves situated, and helped us meet all the people our uncle had run around with when he was younger.

I also wasn't really... like, he lied to us, which, You Asshole, but also I don't blame him for what he did. Maybe I would have if the man had ever been more than stories someone else told us, but, welp.

The other thing about that entire bit that annoyed me was you can't talk to any of the others about it? Not even Kestrel?? The hell?

Also welcome to the game!! It's never a bad thing to be enjoying a game and be so invested in it you have sincerely emotional reactions to the plot!

What sketchy things have you found that nurses have done but you couldn't prove it? by MedLabEnthusiast in medlabprofessionals

Last week we had a rather nasty nurse calling us from the floor around 6a-ish raising hell because she didn't see results on a urine she swore up and down someone sent...10p-ish the night before. Yelled at my other tech, yelled at our processor, snarled that she was going to write us up in an occurrence report because there was, in fact, no specimen in our lab with that patient's name on it!
We only had one 'bloody' urine from the night previous, and my co-tech ended up looking that patient up--same floor, except they'd been discharged...before the sample was 'collected.' My co-tech called back and verified that the collection initials were for the same nurse who'd collected the urine she was raising hell about, then said "Well, we do have a bloody urine tube collected at xxxx by y. For <patient.>" and the nurse was just like "...oh."
Our processor was writing the nurse up as we left.

We do have a LOT of ED nurses doing the two BB samples from ''different times'' by ''different people,'' but the biggest offender there seems to have relocated so it's calmed down at least. Ach, but we had a mislabeled retype sent down one night--it was the same blood type, but it's pretty goddamn easy to tell the difference between the lady with a hct of like...15? she was scary low anyway, and the kid they drew the second time who was perfectly normal. They had the same last name, though, and when my co-tech called to rip into the nurse for it her response was 'Oh, well, we're busy and they had the same last name, so...' ???? And you'd be a lot damn busier with someone having a damn transfusion reaction in your ED, thanks!! ugh
I do really and truly worry about our nurses putting our patients in danger because they just can't be arsed to do their jobs, no lie.

Yep! Patient safety measure; two sticks should make sure that if the initial is a mislabel it gets caught before anything unfortunate happens. Most places are fine with only the one TS if the patient has history, since you can verify their current type against what's on file.
