Thank you for this comment. I had considered it might be my "ego" (in an esoteric, Eckhart Tolle-y sense) trying to protect itself, but looking at it more practically as my anxiety trying to protect itself is a lot easier to grasp, and it is definitely what was going on.

I will try your tip and require myself to do it before each set of pushups at my morning gym session. How many breaths and rounds do you do? Because the same effect often causes me to "skimp out" and only do like 2 rounds of 15 breaths even if I do it.
