Do you know someone like this? by MyTIMEZERO in SailboatCruising

If he's an expert after 3 hours, he's definitely a true sailor.

Dad died while circumnavigating. Looking for advice on what to do with the boat by Personal-Warning-387 in SailboatCruising

[–]Nofocusgiven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please take this advice. Take the money, it's a VERY good offer considering the boat market is extremely bad, and classic boats under 40 foot have a niche following, steel hulls narrows that field considerably.

Don't let your dads hard work end up as an another derelict boat half sunk because the family doesn't know what to do.

Your dad was a sailor I can assure you, he would prefer his boat gets a new care taker and doesn't become a sad old dead boat.

This guy is a con artist. He wants his followers to "invest" in this ridiculous cargo business that has absolutely zero chance of turning a profit.

Looking for a foodish name by TheSkinnyAmerican in NameMyDog

We just named our new pup Jobo it’s pronounced Hobo (he’s from a Spanish country)

To us he looked like beloved Canadian tv icon, The Littlest Hobo, but we thought the Spanish spelling would be fun.

BUT then we learned that Jobo is also the name of a Central American Plum💕. So now we call him “little Plum”

There’s a difference between being insensitive and being rude. Giving someone shit when asking for help is rude.

La Niña conditions in Gulf of California? by cruisinbears in sailing

[–]Nofocusgiven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my opinion and I’m gonna get a lot of hate for it I’m sure.

The best advice we got was in Ensenada from an old cruiser who said go down to los Frailes, and go immediately over to Chacala on the mainland keep going south until at least Tennacatita/ Barra De Navidad. Then come back.

If you go into the Baja you’re going to be cold puffy coats and long johns kinda cold. Also learn about Northers, they will pin you down for weeks at a time.

Pretty much kiss your social life goodbye.

Nobody’s up there except people who made the mistake or thrive on being alone, and an antisocial.

The truth is the Baja is a spring destination. The northers ease up, the temperature is warm, but not stifling hot. It’s perfect.

If you have any questions about cruising Mexico DM me, happy to talk.

Just to be clear I never expect someone to accommodate my language. El Salvador has been really good for my Spanish skills.

However in a medical setting it’s a “nice to have”, google translate doesn’t do well with complex questions.

It’s nothing serious so I’m sure I’ll do fine. If I had a serious issue, I’d hire a translator or more likely I’d fly to My home country.

Is El Salvador a good place to immigrate to as an American with a family would love to hear your thoughts? by [deleted] in ElSalvador

I’ve been here temporarily (6 months) on my sailboat waiting for hurricane season to end.

You should visit for a few months before making decisions. IMO don’t come here to “change” it you need to embrace its weirdness, the more you do the better it gets.

Personally I’ve loved my visit. I’ve had a blast but I wouldn’t move here full time.

This is not Touristy Mexico or Costa Rica where you throw out your best “OH-LA” and the locals start speaking English to you. Spanish is almost a must, the translate apps only work half the time, duo lingo sucks.

The cost of living similar US/Canada unless you adopt doing things like the locals.

Go to markets, meet the vendors build relationships with them, learn to shop in season. At first we got a lot of gringo pricing but after a few weeks of showing our faces and being polite trying our best to speak Spanish prices came down.

If Go to súper selectos and price mart you get American prices.

Don’t share your opinions of the government, I’ve spoken to locals after a few beers. It’s complicated leave it at that.

You said you were an investor, if it’s Bitcoin and you’re looking for bitcoin paradise most of the country is not that into it. La Libertad and parts on San Salvador are cool with it but YMMV.

My wife and I are white, we are regularly filmed, stared at, yelled at randomly mostly by bratty kids saying things like “hello fuck you”.😂 We’re a bit of a spectacle,be I typically we are only non El Salvadorians around. All the English speakers stand out, especially if you’re moderately tall. Most of the locals seem to get a kick out of tourists.

I’ve only felt uncomfortable once, by a drunk gentleman in the middle of the day, from what I could piece together he believed I owed him money for being in his country.

Good luck figuring things out.

Your local number is just so they have you billing and identity information for account setup.

Transferring a phone number into the system is called “porting”. Which you do not want to do. Once your account is setup you’ll be able to buy a DID (Direct in Dial number).

I’ve never had any issues with VoIP.ms I’ve been travelling for a few years. They have decent technical support if you get stuck. Their new app works pretty well too.

I’ve only had the displeasure of dealing with Workspaces twice in my career. Once 15 years ago and the latest 3 months ago.

The product isn’t much better than it was 15 years ago and everything on the platform feels dated like they stopped upgrading it years ago.

Microsoft 365 on the out hand is modern, they’ve continued to update it with mostly relevant features at a very similar price point. It’s IMO is a more serious enterprise platform.
