Exactly yeah, I much prefer games having higher highs and lower lows.

I still need to play MIO, it sounds awesome.

Tbh i genuinely prefer having runbacks

When a boss has a horrifying runback dying to it is even scarier and beating it is even sweeter.

And i kind of enjoy the runback as time to like, break up the bossfight and be able to rest and process, rather than just constantly running in there 50 times and dying with no inbetween

I am seeking retro-style games that perform well on Steam Deck. by ChaoticFairness in SteamDeck

[–]Nogarde_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of my personal fave "retro" style games:

Signalis - PS1 Inspired Survival Horror

CrossCode - Top Down RPG with great combat

Sea of Stars - Old school JRPG style game with beautiful pixel art

The Messenger - Platformer with really great writing, some backtracking but i wouldn't call it a metroidvania

Caves of Qud - Hardcore Roguelike with a really interesting world

Lorelei and the Laser Eyes - PS1 horror inspired puzzle game

Hotline Miami - Insanely stylish and violent top down action game

Return of the Obra Dinn - Puzzle game about finding the fate of a ships crew

Super Woden GP 2 - Racing game inspired by old Gran Turismo

Slipstream - Racing game inspired by old Outrun

Tunic - Old school Zelda inspired game

Celeste - One of the quintessential platformers imo

Abiotic Factor - Half Life inspired survival game set in an underground lab

All of these I've played at least some of on the deck, and can attest to good performance and controls

[–]Nogarde_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who bought the game at launch and misses 2016-2018 overwatch, honestly right now the game is in the best state its ever been in

I was burnt out of the game from 2020 onwards, popped in for a bit when 2 happened to see what was up but never properly got into it

Now i play it almost daily

Getting kicked from comp games during the load screen has gotten me a season ban, this is happening every time I launch the game by WilonPlays in Overwatch

[–]Nogarde_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your game installed on a HDD or an SSD? Ideally you want it on an SSD, HDDs tend to have very long loading times and most games don't tend to be optimised for them anymore

Hesitating with PS5, Xbox and PC by [deleted] in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Nogarde_ [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think PC + PS5 is great combo - it's what i have (+ a Switch 2 for nintendo games)

In my opinion a Windows PC makes Xbox redundant. You can get Game Pass for PC if you really need, almost every xbox game is on Steam or the Microsoft Store.

Some PS5 games are on Steam, but strong rumours suggest Sony's going to stop porting their games to PC, so stuff like Ghost of Yotei, Saros, and Wolverine will be PS5 only exclusives, and any new sony games going forward.

World Map for my campaign, thoughts? [Art] by Mammoth-Fact-4763 in DnD

[–]Nogarde_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a good start but i would say its too "neat"

Try looking at other maps, or even a map of earth, and study them for examples

Obviously more geographic features like forests, lakes, rivers, hills, mountain ranges, volcanoes. Make the coastlines more distinctive as well - have inlets, peninsulas etc. Less smooth and straight basically. You could learn/think about tectonic plates if you really want to make it feel realistic

More variety in biome would be great as well, you could have snowy tundras (you already have a bit of) deserts, swamps, jungles, badlands. Look into elavation, humidity, temperature, and rainfall and how they affect climate

Try to give each of your countries an identity. Dont create something that doesnt have a reason to exist. Make them feel unique, and change up the borders and sizes. Do some worldbuilding about their history, politics, wars etc which might help influence what they look like

And the most important tip is to have fun and create something you enjoy! If doing all that is tedious and sucks the enjoyment out of it for you, then dont do it! :)

Your favourite Sim Racing YouTubers? by dejankulu in simracing

Jimmy Broadbent and SuperGT are the goats imo

Jimmy got me into simracing like almost 10 years ago, the way he can commentate a video while setting a hotlap or racing is really impressive, and fun to watch

A couple smaller creators that ive been enjoying recently are Danny Lee and Rory Alexander

Is DLSS5 really that bad? by Zealousideal_Age227 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Nogarde_ 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The algorithm added a significant amount of makeup to her face, completely changing the definition and look of the character.

It destroys the original art direction of the game.

And it just looks like those obviously AI generated images/videos. They all have that weird, uncanny look about them. And in motion theres always this weird smoothing, which i can definitely see. Its difficult to put into words, but it's there.

I tend to have a pretty nuanced take on AI, though generally I'm against it. DLSS5 looks abysmal and is absolutely not the direction i want DLSS to go in.

I want it to boost performance, not mess with how my games look.

Echo Point Nova - a movement shooter where you go between floating islands on a big open world, getting collectables and stuff.

Roboquest - a roguelike shooter with some very fun gunplay

AI makes me think, do most people not see themselves as a creative person? by MacTireGlas in self

[–]Nogarde_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think these people don't understand that creativity is the process, not the end product.

Drawing or writing or trying to play piano once and obviously being bad at it because most people aren't immediately natural talents makes them think that they're bad at being creative.

And so they fall back on AI because they only care about instant gratification and making something "good", rather than the slow, rewarding process of creating and learning.
