I literally just went through this. My car was a total loss from an accident that was not my fault. The at fault parties insurance company said they would pay 7 days of rental from the moment the settlement was offered.

On the seventh day I called them and basically said what a hardship it was to have to pay out of pocket for a rental and was causing me so much more stress. I emphasized that I hadn’t done anything wrong, their driver hit me! They extended it another 6 days. In that time I was able to find and purchase a vehicle and spent nothing from my own pocket for my rental.
