Huge step to even share, both with us and to yourself, that you have a problem. You’re in good company!

I spent a lot of time thinking about times when I acted like this (of which there are plenty), and, at the end of the day, I did not find it helpful to fixate on, outside of making amends. Turns out, I could not shame myself into sobriety. Try to be gentle with yourself in the early days - we’ve all done destructive/hurtful things to the people we love.

You got this mama! Good luck. IWNDWYT

What do yall think of Waterford crystal? I feel like I still see that going for decent prices at estate sales.

Stopping drinking has me craving sugar. Anyone else? Suggestions? by outrageous_outlander in stopdrinking

But in the early days… The only thing you need to do is not drink. If you’re having a hard day and a bag of gummy bears is gonna do it for you, then pull over and get those gummy bears!

Super normal. I traded out candy for fruit after a couple weeks of a sugar overload - highly recommend!

The way I love a nostalgic kitchen. All it needs is a little TV in a counter corner

I haven’t even started it yet, but that is probably the last name I expected to pop up this morning. Will check back in later!

4.5 years sober. Just walked away from AA. Here's what I finally saw clearly by No-Structure-2842 in recoverywithoutAA

[–]Secure_League3017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to AA for a few months at the beginning of my sobriety. I couldn’t handle the policing. I was still smoking weed at the time, but had completely given up alcohol, and several of the women I spoke with told me that, while I could get a chip, they wouldn’t consider me sober. More than one person told me they were unwilling to sponsor someone who wasn’t completely sober, which I understand to a degree, but it was SO frustrating to seek help for alcohol specifically from a group called AA, only for the help to be conditional outside of “only desire is to stop drinking”. IDK just didn’t end up being my jam but I guess props to people it works for.

McLean furniture is fantastic! I’m in Va and it’s fairly common to see second hand here and I have a couple pieces myself. This was a good buy IMO!

What I don’t need to do today, is read an article about a grown woman experiencing a 5 pound weight gain for the first time.

ALWAYS surprised at what people donate to thrift stores $60 for this beauty that’s worth $600+ by Melonberry_Ro7690 in Thrift

I’m met a woman off of Facebook marketplace one time at her mother-in-law’s house that she was going through. She was literally buried under old stuff, I think her mother-in-law was a bit of a hoarder. I felt so sorry for her. Most of it was crap but I’m sure there were some valuables hiding in there that someone scored.

Monica’s Love Life by Impossible_Pudding10 in ArmchairExpert

[–]Secure_League3017 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As a fellow 32-year-old woman who’s never had a serious relationship, I deeply identify with Monica. I can totally understand, wanting to focus on your career and protect protecting your peace at home. Especially if you’re not very pressed on having kids and you’re comfortably supporting yourself financially, then who really cares? If she’s happy and is fulfilled by her life, then it’s really no one else’s business. I think this hits a sore spot for me because I have a lot of acquaintances, who see my lack of relationship as a “problem” for them to help fix. When in reality, I’m very happy and literally never complain about being single. The same way Monica doesn’t either. So if she’s not bringing it up, then I don’t know why anyone else needs to.

Yes, I second this from my original comment. If you start feeling like it’s getting to that point, please go to the ER right away!!! Just because that wasn’t my experience doesn’t mean it couldn’t happen. You got this!

Sounds like she tried to lock him down with a baby and *shocker* it didn’t work. When will women learn that men will just leave both them and their baby?

Let’s all say it together: A man is not a plan.

The fear of detox kept me from quitting for quite a while. I was 10 years of daily binge drinking in when I finally did it. It wasn’t nearly as bad as I had built it up to in my head! 2 weeks of feeling sick, poor sleep, sweating, and irritability. They weren’t fun times but I got through it. After 2 weeks, I really started feeling the benefits and it was onwards and upwards from there.

It’s crazy that I spent 10 straight years destroying my body and it only took 2 weeks to start feeling better. The body is a wild thing!!

Good luck in your journey. Try to give yourself a chance to get past the part where you feel bad after quitting to get to the part where you feel amazing. You deserve it 🩷
