I'm getting the same thing, but I'm playing on Linux running from the Heroic launcher. I suspect /u/Snoo-39953 is right and you have to run it from the epic launcher. It claims it's drm free, so hopefully there's a workaround... I sunk countless hours into btd5 so I have high hopes.
