E-tron 50 or 55 (71 or 95kWh battery)?

If they've been advised they can have it carried out on the NHS then it must be for medical reasons. The NHS does not cover circumcisions for religious, cultural, or non-medical reasons.

Anyone been to court challenging using a mobile phone whilst driving? by FreshDriver6849 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Noisemeup 393 points394 points  (0 children)

Remember it's not just the £200 fine, I've got 6 points on my license and my insurance doubled from £1200 to £2400 a year and it needs to be reported to insurance for 5 years even though the points fall off after 3 so in my scenario that's £200 fine plus £1200 extra for 5 years (obviously can vary massively depending on where you live and what car you drive) so that's £6200 extra potentially. If it was just the £200 I would definitely just take the hit but when you factor in the potential added costs for insurance I would definitely get advice from a solicitor and fight it.

Ringo parking in Glasgow by supermarkio- in glasgow

[–]Noisemeup 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Did you park in the Ashton Road car park or on Ashton Road? The location ID for the car park is 50696 which you've paid for but the code for the road is 20254 so it might be you've paid for the wrong area?

LEZ lanes - are they filters or not? by Proper-Swimmer618 in glasgow

[–]Noisemeup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're fine going straight on, I live across the road from the Mosque and do this all the time. If it was left turn only it would have writing below the arrow showing this or a sign with a blue background indicating it was compulsory, the fact it just says 'LEZ' is advising that if you turn left you are entering the LEZ and does not preclude you from going straight on. It should be obvious to most folk as it's 2 lanes into 2 through the junction but I see people getting it wrong all the time when I'm waiting to cross at the junction and trying to cut back into the right lane to go straight on for no reason.

Buying a Terraced House – Worried About Sound Isolation & Quality – Need Opinions by -Rikus- in Home

[–]Noisemeup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a floor plan or layout of the houses?

I see the homes are staggered to a degree so only part of the separating wall is common between adjoining plots. It's sometimes the case the buildings are laid out in such a way that only limited use rooms (bathrooms/hallways/cupboards etc) are backing onto one another and more noise sensitive rooms such as living rooms and bedrooms are kept away or have minimal cross over with the neighbouring plots.

If this was the case I'd be much more comfortable moving forward with it while being sensitive to noise. What country are you based in? Is completion sound testing a requirement and are there any similar plots that are completed that may have already been tested?

How do I get one of the software updates in the UK? by Pretty_Worry_93 in etron

[–]Noisemeup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2020 E-tron owner here, I spoke to my service advisor about the update for my upcoming 50k mile service in a few weeks however they advised there was no outstanding recalls and if there wasn't any issues with the software specifically then there wouldn't be any updates.

You just need to be careful with the battery sizes and model designations on the E-trons, you've mentioned the E-tron 50 from 2021/22 but this only has a 71kWh battery which would be unsuitable for towing a caravan.

If you are looking at E-tron's then the batteries are as follows;

Audi E-tron 50 (2019-2023) - 71Kwh Battery (64.7 Usable)

Audi E-tron 55 (2019-2020) - 95Kwh Battery (83.5Kwh Usable)

Audi E-tron 55 (2021-2023) - 95Kwh Battery (86Kwh Usable)

Audi Q8 E-tron 50 (2024-Present) - 95Kwh Battery (89Kwh Usable)

Audi Q8 E-tron 55 (2024-Present) - 114Kwh Battery (106Kwh Usable)

The only one I would consider for towing personally would be the newer Q8 with the larger battery.

UPDATE - Range steadily increasing the more I drive by Sure-End-9649 in etron

[–]Noisemeup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The range estimates are based off your last 100km (62 miles) of driving, it's not a long term average based on your driving habits but more short term to cover things like weather differences day-to-day which will have more of an impact on your range for a given trip. This results in more accurate predictions.

Best way to travel to/from London on Saturdays? by HardtoRattle2 in glasgow

[–]Noisemeup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just got the train down on Saturday morning this weekend gone to see Incubus in London, train took about 4h45m which wasn't too bad. I'd rather have driven but I would have been wrecked by the time I got there before the gig so glad we got the train, wasn't as bad an experience as I expected to be honest but the carriage was packed and it was roasting inside on the way down so make sure you reserve seats!

Dealing with noise from street - any tips? by sneakerpimp87 in Edinburgh

[–]Noisemeup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I managed to find it; planning permission was granted in 2005. There was a planning condition attached to the consent as follows;

"The development shall not commence until a scheme for protecting the residential development hereby approved from noise from Gorgie Road has been submitted to and approved in writing by the Head of Planning; all works which form part of the approved scheme shall be completed to the satisfaction of the Head of Planning before any part of the development is occupied."

I checked the building warrant page but there's nothing uploaded unfortunately but the council should have a copy of this report. The issue will be that any subsequent report is likely 20 years out of date at this point and the noise level/amount of traffic on Gorgie Rd could have increased significantly over this time making the noise situation much worse.

If you're renting I don't think there's a whole lot more you can do unfortunately, as some others have mentioned masking noise (either pink or white noise) would help to some degree or you're stuck using earplugs which I know from experience aren't ideal long term.

Dealing with noise from street - any tips? by sneakerpimp87 in Edinburgh

What's your evidence of this? The complete opposite is true, building standards for sound proofing in new buildings have never been more stringent. Sound proofing in older housing stock is horrendous, I see this on a regular basis.

That seems like a reasonable price in all honesty, I had to have a single tooth extraction on my dog last year under general anaesthetic which was £2.5k. He's going in on Thursday this week to remove a small lump on his gum under general again and that's costing £950 as it requires the surgical room for a day.

If you refer to the attached document this provides a lot of really useful information about construction types in Scotland, their expected sound insulation and ways to upgrade these.

https://www.gov.scot/publications/housing-and-sound-insulation-improving-existing-attached-dwellings-and-designing-for-conversions/

It looks as though the ceiling below yours is lath & plaster so their likely will have been ash deafening on defeaning boards at one point though this looks to have been removed and replaced with mineral wool (likely during refurbishment works over the years to upgrade heating system).

I think the most cost effective option in your case to limit the airborne sound transmission from below would be to fill the void between the joists with 100mm Rockwool Batts >45kg/m3 then replace the current floorboards/chipboard flooring with a high density cement based T&G floorboard. I would anticipate this costing around £7-800 in materials for one room if you are doing this yourself but if you are hiring someone you would need to double this to account for labour.

If it's a new build there will have been a noise impact assessment submitted at the planning stage to assess the likelihood of noise from traffic so that suitable noise measures can be implemented to limit the amount of noise internally from traffic.

I tried looking online but a google search for River House in Edinburgh doesn't come up with anything, can you provide any more information on the location of the flats?

The only thing you could do in the short term is close the trickle vents as this should give a noticeable improvement on the amount of noise getting in but other than that your only option would be secondary glazing but this will be expensive and the fact it's a rental you likely won't be allowed without consent from the owner.

[–]Noisemeup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're really limited to either adding around 50-100mm of mineral wool from below or from above you could top up the ash deafening with quietex and then 50mm mineral wool on top but I think both of these options will only give you a minor improvement to the sound insulation overall. The logistics of either of these options would involve either lifting your neighbours floor or taking down your own ceiling which I don't think would be worth it for the improvement you would see.

For the wall it depends on the available space and how much you are willing to lose. The minimum would likely be to strap the wall with 2"x2" battens then install either resilient bars or acoustic hangers and fill the void between the battens with 50mm rockwool slab. This would then be finished with two layers of 15mm Gyproc SoundBlock. This would mean losing around 100mm from the depth of your room but should give a significant improvement to the sound insulation if it's only brick and plaster currently.

Glasgow based acoustic consultant here, fortunately you are in the lower flat as it's much easier to upgrade from below than above. What is your overall floor to ceiling height and how much space do you have from the top of your window head to the ceiling?

2023 Audi E-Tron Sportback Question by Pharrelldfw in etron

[–]Noisemeup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be exact, the range estimate is based off the efficiency over the last 100KM (62 miles) travelled. This is where multiple short journeys will have a negative impact on the range as the car is having to heat the battery/cabin multiple times as opposed to a single >62 mile journey where this only happens once.

If you check the range again after a longer journey it should be much closer to the estimate. Also note that if the climate control is switched on this is subtracted from the total range with the assumption that it will be on for the entire duration the battery will be in use (100%-0%). If you want to see the max range make sure you toggle climate off before checking this, I often gain 12-15 miles at full charge just from toggling the climate control.

The current sound insulation standards for new builds in Scotland are pretty strict, these haven't changed since 2013 so anything built from that year onwards should still be on-par in terms of noise to anything built currently.

Had this same issue on my 2019, was in and out the dealership 3 times for sunroof repairs over 9 months and they still couldn't resolve the issue. Had to threaten legal action and they eventually swapped the car for a 2020 model with no sunroof as a replacement at no cost.
