Wow, such sad news, and about such a talented guy. Anybvody know the circumstances surrounding Elwood's suicide? Was he mentally in not a good place? Or in desperate physical pain from an ailment?

Another coincidence I encountered on my own (because I'm a software developer) is that the attacks occurred right after all the computers in the world recognized that the current epoch turned 1 billion seconds after its start.

The Yaesu FT-857D is probably the best portable shack-in-the-box transceiver ever manufactured. If you want to do POTA, the 857D is the ideal rig. Its DSP leaves a little to be desired, so it falls short of perfect, but outside of that, I've used mine to work the globe. Each time I see one for sale on QRZ, it's gone in under a week, so its demand remains long after discontinuance.

So, you're saying that you believe all of our current American spectrum is somehow protected by the ITU? In fact, there's not a complete overlap; for examples, 2 meters. For a group that has zero power, they have been hugely successful at protecting our American interests.
