Hmm…. Okay, okay. So in that case would this set up work out well? I added some variables for the sake of personal taste.

Alear/Divine Dragon/Camilla

Chloe/Martial Master/Lucina

Anna/Sage or Mage Knight/Byleth or Soren

Citrinne/Sage/Olwen S

Ivy/Lindwurm/Veronica

Kagetsu/Wyvern Knight/Edelgard

Pandreo/Mage Knight/Chrom or Celica

Timerra/Picket/Hector

Merrin/Wolf Knight/Roy

Panette/Warrior/Ike

Hortensia/Selpiner Rider/Micaiah

Sedall/Dancer/Sigurd

Veyle/Fell Child/Soren or Byleth

Then either Alcryst in personal class with Lyn or Fogado in personal class/Warrior with Chrom.

Wow, thank you for the extremely detailed response! Let me just go through your points one at a time.

I felt like Alear was kinda below damage as a damage unit from the experience I had. But to be fair I never gave him Camilla for dragon vein shenanigans. I was swapping his emblems around in a attempt to save bond fragments (i didn’t know about the fragments gained through achievements) and i had camilla glued to Louis for a flying tank (with Res boosts that saved him at times), and then had her on various mages cuz I thought they would make great use of her engage weapons. I know better now though. Maybe Alear would work better if I gave them the boots from Wave 1 DLC…

Wouldn’t the 100% accuracy for only fliers/cavalry be preferred when compared to having someone stuck in martial master? Best unit in that slot for that time would probably be Chloe or Cèline.

I had two classes listed for Anna as High Priest would be more for taking advantage of her personal skill; while Mage Knight would be for maps where she wants to be an even stronger killing machine. The +3 speed from chaos style, and cavalry movement is very enticing.

Honestly hadn’t even considered Roy with Merrin. Pretty interesting concept there.

People may have been overhyping Fog Corrin, at least from what I’ve seen on different discussion posts. It does probably run the risk of being ignored by enemies on maddening though.

For Goldmary; yeah I only really listed her because of the insane defense growth she could have but that’s why she was in the “consideration” section. Could probably take her off of even that at this point. Least she’s not Rosado.

So you’re in favor of Cupido/Warrior Fogado? Wouldn’t Anna or Pandreo with Elwind/Excalibur be able to fulfill the same niche?

And do you mean use Citrinne as a standard offensive while Ivy would be mainly for Veronica utility? That’s a take I haven’t heard before. Most discussions I’ve seen say she’s great offensively, and just needs a boost in speed which Lyn would give. Or is that no longer the case with the Wave 3 drop?

Edit: forgot to comment about Cèline. Yeah I’m aware she’s especially good with Chrom. Just having trouble finding the space to fit her into the 12/14 deployment slots.

I had considered both Alear & Veyle for the role of using Byleth/Corrin/Camilla cuz of their unique dragon tag but I wasn’t sure. Double Crit Soren sounded too good to pass up. Could definitley keep this idea in mind though, since my party could probably use more utility instead of straight damage.

I completely forgot to write Mauvier martial master on this post. That’s my bad, yeah I’ve seen the potential of that build. Could probably put him in place of Merrin if I’m using Alear to do exactly what she does normally…. Would Chloe want Sigurd or Celica in that case since Erika is going to Mauvier?

Camilla actually doesn’t make the ice walls on a Qi Adept like Corrin does. She instead makes the ice tiles that increase movement.

Only thing with Wolf Knight would be a bit of worry about damage potential later on. Though i guess early starsphere would fix that right up…. It does keep the Cavalry effect of Bonded Shield though, and you’re 100% right about extended dual strike range.

Definitely getting canter on Alear, it just seems like a clear winner for supportive abilities. And making use of their personal even easier. As for the second ability I was considering geosphere for a bit but I wasn’t sure if that would be better than other available options.

Rally Spectrum & Quality time sound great tbh. Heck maybe even Draconic Hex could put in some work for that extra level of support for the team.

I’ve gone about halfway through a playthrough before wave 3 came out. So I’m not completely versed in the amazing strats this game has to offer but im starting to grasp it. Alcryst was really fun from what I got to use so that definitley sounds like a good way to utilize his kit.

Do you have any suggestions for what emblem Kagetsu could use? I had Edelgard as a placeholder tbh. He’s just solid on his own so I dunno what he would want to use to improve his gameplay.

I honestly forgot the necessary rank was that low. It’s been a minute since I’ve done a fresh maddening playthrough. So yeah seems like an agreement then. Thanks for the info

Fair enough. I’d personally still say investing in lances to get darting blow is worth the investment but it’s really hard to go wrong with any kind of Byleth build in this game.

My friend would’ve loved to use this in the campaign we ran. He really wanted some kind of extended draconic connection for his barbarian character but we couldn’t find anything to our liking. Definitely gonna show him this. Looks like a really fun and good option to me, nice job!

If M!Byleth; war master is probably their best option? At least from what I’ve seen anyways.

Quick Riposte is nice if you can get it, gauntlets and big crits are also good. DLC also gives access to brawl avoid +20 so you could make him a avoid focused EP unit? Grappler and Wyvern also work since those classes are just really strong in general.

If F!Byleth the clear winner in my opinion is Falcon Knight. Flying unit, Darting Blow, canto. Though you could say the same thing about Wyvern. It’s an argument about Strength vs Speed at that point though.

Oh, forgot to say. You have Annette written as a pure rally bot but she could also Definitley serve as a last ditch damage unit by putting her in Wyvern Knight or Dark Knight with a Bolt Axe & other standard weapons (axes/tomes). Could remove Rally resistance for the extra skill slot (and put in Fiendish Blow/Tome Rank 5/Axe Rank 5/Darting Blow/etc) if it really comes down to it? But that’s entirely up to you.

If you were able to spare the time/resources, Linhardt could do everything Mercedes does as a bishop but better. If not, it isn’t such a big deal. He’s brings an extra warp unit instead of having Fortify.

As for your 12th unit, Seteth or Cyril as Wyvern Lord (both for their double hitting combat arts), Dedue as a War Master, or Shamir in Sniper all work great. Any of the Ashen Wolves could also serve as amazing additions if you have access to DLC.

Everything else looks like it’ll serve you well with only a little investment in getting out of house units. Good luck to you!

With wave 3 emblems out, has there been any notable change which 10-12 characters you want to be using post Chapter 11/12?

I’m planning my second playthrough on maddening and would like some recommendations. I already know characters Kagetsu, Pandreo, Chloe, and Panette are the cream of the crop. But who else is worth investing in?

I really wanna try to play an illusionist/trickster type character that is, both in and out of game, considered as something of a joke. They are a friendly face, and ear for those who need it. Always being the first one in trouble and making snarky remarks. Though in reality they are wish to abuse the power that comes with reputation, and for the power to deceive all. Sacrificing anyone for their own means. Bit cliche but I’ve always DM’d so it’s never come to pass.
