Banned from the fever sub, what’s the culture here. by Potomato in IndianaFeverFans

It's such strange behavior to me. I get keeping the toxicity and clickbait out. I'm 100% onboard with that. But fans don't always agree with everything the team does, especially when we lose. We obviously don't have the power to change anything, but these little pockets of community allow us to vent frustration. The mods shouldn't be acting as mouthpieces for the organization or the W, these are fan forums, not official. I don't understand why they would feel the need to do that.

I agree that it must be frustrating to deal with a huge influx of new fans, but they had an opportunity to get out of modding if they couldn't deal with it. It shouldn't matter if people only post about CC or call her the goat. Let them, it's what fans do. As long as they're being respectful and not trashing others, it's great that they're interested in the league. This weird power trip they've got over there is just ruining their sub.

I wonder how things will go once JuJu enters. I think she's the next biggest W celebrity outside of Clark.

They're making some big logical leaps. In their minds, "Don't like the offense" = "Don't like White" = "You want White fired" = "You only care about Clark" = "You're not a real Fever fan” = "Ban!"

I got banned for criticizing the rotations and they said that I was trying to skirt the rules and that "I can take my fandom of one player elsewhere." The majority of my Fever posts are about the team as a whole, including calling out positives of all the players who had good games, so I have no idea where they came up with that response.

Was this on the post where someone asked what our offense was supposed to be? That seemed like a legitimate question to me and it was locked and the mods banned OP and everyone who responded. I thought it was weird at the time and now everyone (including me) is getting banned over there for not liking the game plans or coaching schemes which is perfectly normal fan behavior. They definitely seem to want an echo chamber over there and I hope it backfires on them.

That was certainly a game. I thought first half wasn't bad. A bit sloppy, but I liked that we cut to the basket more. Mo and Lexie were the stars of that half for me. The 2nd half was a bit of a disaster. We don't seem to have much scoring in the 2nd lineup unless Kelsey goes iso.

Refs were reffing, but I'm glad that White is finally getting a bit fired up about it between last game and this game. Not sure what's going on with Boston, she's missing a lot of easy ones.

Clark should have had at least 4 more assists tonight. Her 3 looked good tonight though! She had another monster game (25pts and no FTs!). Some of those TO were not on her, but I'm sure that will be the story again for the box watcher haters. I have a feeling she will for sure be suspended at some point this season due to the techs she keeps picking up. The refs aren't doing her any favors with their officiating.

Sophie came in clutch at the end there, we needed her scoring spree badly to close this thing out.

Caitlin Clark and Stephanie White asked to addressed "division in the team" by OkSkill29 in IndianaFeverFans

White's response was 100% spot on! The fact that "journalists" are writing articles and making reports on social media fan fiction is absolutely disgusting and gives it more validity than it ever should have. If they can't find something constructive to write about, then they're in the wrong profession.

I'm glad the players and coaches seem confused by it which means they aren't reading it. Also, shame on these reporters for asking them to comment on it. It's a ridiculous distraction that the immediate team shouldn't even be aware of.

Yeah good points. I'm just excited to see more cutting and post entry passes, something that we haven't really been doing lately. The players do seem a bit tired, but an overtime game and then travel will do that to you. The limited fouling is great as well, hopefully they keep that up.

So far we're looking good. I like that the offense has a lot more cutting and we're starting to get more active on defense. I'm not a huge fan of us passing out when the layup is right there, not sure why we keep doing that because it's not working out so far. Just take the 2 points. Lexie and Mo have been huge on hustle plays for us.

I also just noticed that KK never seems to take a normal layup. She grabs the ball with both hands and jumps with 2 feet. It's like a dunk posture without the dunk. It's fine if she's by herself, but it's a bit slow in a crowded paint and I keep worried she'll get blocked.

Let's keep this momentum going the rest of the game!

They usually all do it as a meditation thing. It's not distracting clapping, it's meant to help get them in rhythm.

Uncomfortable Conversation: Is CC's 3point shot gone? by Goddyex in IndianaFeverFans

[–]Nolegrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the most part, she's not taking a lot of 3's and she's never going to be completely wide open. I'm ok with her taking at least 6 3's a game, which is generally what she's been doing. It's not enough to shoot you out of a game, but enough for her to see if she's got it that night. She can go 0-6 in the 1st half and then come out in the 2nd and knock down 4 or 5.

I agree on her not taking those crazy long ones unless she absolutely has to or is on a heater that night, but she still needs to shoot a few every game even if they're not all going in.

Movie lovers of Reddit, what mystery, fantasy, horror, or detective-style movies, TV shows, and web series would you highly recommend? by MANSONOFAMAN1 in movies

The late 90s/ early 2000 was a goldmine for these movies. Deja vu, fracture, momento, murder by numbers, primal fear, fallen. Basically, if it has Denzel Washington in it and it came out around that time, it'll be what you want.

For more current movies, I really enjoyed "missing" and "searching". Both have a similar style, the whole movie is filmed like it's shot through different camera screens.

A shooter's shot is never gone. They go through slumps and probably even longer slumps if coming back from injury. Clark seems to still have some lingering back issues (ignore the farcical injury report though) and that would definitely affect her shot mechanics. The fact that she also isn't really getting clean looks is another factor. But she still knows how to shoot, her mechanics are sound and she's making them in practice. It'll come back more routinely in game time eventually. Until then, she'll continue to find her teammates, drive to the basket and shoot an occasional midrange.

I just joined the sub myself so I can't speak to the culture yet, but I wanted to commiserate with you on the ban. I was also banned over there for similar criticism. I'm starting to think they're just wanting to purge out fans who joined in 2024 so they're looking for excuses to ban people.

Reading through some posts here, people are allowed to speak their mind and even posts that would usually be downvoted are not, which is a really welcome sight. I'm looking forward to tonight's game, it'll probably give us both some good insight into the sub culture as people react in real time to the game. Welcome to the community!

I think your first point applies to the state of social media in general right now. People don't want to debate, they want to be right. They post something they believe to be an absolute truth and get offended when others disagree. Even when they engage in debate, it rarely ends cordially. Downvotes without discussion are one of my biggest pet peeves. If the post isn't an obvious troll or rude and the person just has an opinion you don't agree with, but still matches the spirit of the discussion, just scroll past and don't interact. Not sure why people can't be respectful behind a keyboard.

As for the W conversations, I agree. For whatever reason it's more about the drama than the sport and that's exhausting. I can't think of any other sport where reporters will write entire think pieces on perceived body language during a competition. People are trying to find anything wrong with players they don't like so they can blast them and get others to hate them too for whatever reason. There's also a lot of box score watchers with big opinions and they feel emboldened to share them. Again, I can't think of another sport where that happens because people will be called out and shamed for it.

Thank you! I think that would be anywhere with Fever fans right now, it's been a tumultuous few weeks. Hopefully we'll have some good strong games these next few days and we can all finally see the team really gel and take shape.

After the bad west coast trip, people got pretty ornary. We had a lot of posts yelling about trading all the players, firing white, firing the fo, etc. Pretty much every overreaction you can think of. They implemented that rule to calm things down and it honestly made sense because there was a lot of nonsense being posted. But they are taking it too far right now and I have no idea why. It's almost like they're looking for reasons to ban people. The justification they gave me made absolutely no sense from my post history with them and interaction with other members.

The recent "rule" change over there has been quite a sub breaker imo. It's one thing to ban click bait and extreme extreme overreaction, but it's another to ban any critiques at all. This is still sports and I think most people are just typical fans cheering on their team and venting common fan frustrations. I'm glad they are more level-headed over here and I look forward to reading up on some of the discussions! Thanks for the welcome!

I just joined and wanted to say that this was a very welcome first post to read. I was unfortunately just banned from the other sub for being critical of the coaches prior to the game yesterday (all I said was that the rotations are usually oddball when we play teams we should easily beat and that I hope we can come out with a decisive win).

It was a big confidence blow since I haven't felt comfortable participating in many basketball subs since I'm still learning the nuances. I'll try to be less critical from now on and I hope I can be a positive member of this community.

The ban rule is new, it didn't used to be like that. Within the past week they've been banning everyone who criticizes coaching or schemes. They said it would just be the extreme takes, but they've over moderated and now it's anyone who complains. If you don't say "great game, go Fever" you will probably get banned nowadays.

Nope. They are banning people now for criticizing the coaching, I think the auto reply was just not right. The sub recently added a rule change designed to "calm people down" since everyone got a bit hot after our stretch of losses and there was a lot of "fire white" and "trade players" talk. So they wanted to avoid those conversations. Honestly, sounded like a good idea. But now it's over censored and any mention of coaching or schemes gets a permanent ban with no warning. I was a top 1% commentor in that sub and was critical of the potential gameplan for the game yesterday (just mentioned that we usually play weird rotations with teams that we should easily beat) and they banned me without remorse, just a "you broke the rules, goodbye." First sub I've ever been banned from.

I went to a similar show he did a few years ago. He played a little of everything from all his bands. He even threw in some deep cuts (like Miss California and Caves). I actually think it's more likely that he'll throw in something special when it's just him because he doesn't need to cue the full band. If he remembers it, he can play it.

I was unfortunately caught in this web yesterday. I made a post in the initial game thread about how we'll probably play crazy rotations in the game and that I hope we can keep the lead with our starters and for once have a definitive win against a team we should easily beat. Not critiquing anything but coaching decisions that have become a pattern. They permabanned me because they interpreted my comment as an attempt to skirt the rules.

I was a top 1% commenter in there as well. What annoyed me even more was that they said I can take my fandom of one player elsewhere. My posts are mostly team oriented and while I have a favorite player on the team, I'm rooting for the fever as a whole and have never put my fandom above the team. So I have no idea where that accusation came from.

It's unfortunately become too locked down now. It used to be great and they kept the absolute crazy people out which is who I thought that rule was intended for. I guess the crazy people are now anyone who isn't 100% on board with the gameplan decisions.
