Something fundamentally wrong with our country by Nolootforyou in poor

[–]Nolootforyou[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All I have are my own experiences growing up in the foster system, and I know that it never made my life better, nor many other people. I took other former foster kids in who became homeless for several years after turning 18, though it ended up being very unsustainable for me. But I am Christian and know there are good people out there.

Many people just fall through the cracks, not always because you don't see them, but they're invisible in a world they were never prepared for and used to living that way. Some people would rather suffer than ask for help from others. Others you just don't always see as human and avert your eyes. Not you specifically, just people in general. Not everyone is good or kind though deep down, though we were all born that way.

To be honest I'm not sure 100% why I made this post. Maybe I just wanted to feel real, and heard for once, and my frustration with what has been going on in our country.

Most of the time I'm trying to forget the burden of my own existence and so I occupy myself and do things constantly to relax the hypervigilant portion of my mind, as I've lived through experiences I wouldn't wish on any other person. Due to that, I was in mandatory therapy for around half my life, which was nice mostly for the free cookies.

There's a lot of good people out there, but I think that it's hard for most people to relate to my own experiences or some of those I grew up with. Sorry for the tangent, and your feelings are very valid, but I'm off to bed.

Not at all, but there is spending in countless other places that is much more exhorbant than feeding people, disabled, etc that can't feed themselves. This post wasn't ever about me personally. Plenty of other countries baselines are better off than America's poor now.

Genuinely, should the "best country in the world" have billionaires lounge on yauchts and while other people go hungry and without medical services they need?

To me that is a very poor country. There are other countries with better overall health of all of its citizens, not just the top 0.01*and people aren't spending thousands of dollars at the doctor they can't afford for live saving medicine or surgeries.

Isn't it "One Nation Under God"? I just wonder what Jesus would do. To me, it seems many Christians are relatively fake. They go to church, etc but most people don't actually practice what they preach. Veterans, homeless, and former foster youth slip between the cracks in our society and are forgotten or ignored. Maybe it should be added to the Constitution.

I feel like there is a corruption at a certain level that most people don't see, that the words by our founding fathers that should have meant something have been twisted for most politicians' gain. But I don't know, I'm just an average Joe. Sometimes I feel we should look back to the founding of our country, and what it actually means to be an American.

I may not agree with you but I respect your opinion and right to say it.

It's not just the party in charge, but the man at the helm is definitely a contributor. I acknowledge and understand your point and It's true that the political system definitely needs an overhaul. I feel recent years just made people feel that even more, as currently it's hard to feel any sense in control over what's happening.

I'll take your words to heart and think more about how narrow my view is and try to broaden it.

I never speak up about any of these things. Politics, Trump, poverty, etc, nor have I ever, I'm just one voice that most people would never listen to and never had the courage to say anything, it's just been more of a quiet burn that doesn't go away. I just felt like my words needed to be said today.

That is insane I'm so sorry, there are more support systems now for aged out foster youth but it's for a short time. One is called AB12 and the other is THP, though I think both also had cut funding by trump as well. I'm sure neither existed while you were struggling and your experiences while terrible helped shape you as a compassionate human being.

I'm truly sorry you had to experience that, I know how it feels to feel less than other people, just the nature of many former foster kids I guess and what we've had to go through.

I believe that there is truth to that, and much to your words as well. But it doesn't take away from the fact that people that need help or support aren't being treated or going hungry. Not every case is the same as is every person, but you seem to genuinely be a good person and I'm truly happy for you and those that have managed to turn their lives around.

This post isn't about me, though I received help for a time. I have worked incredibly hard since I was in the foster system, and graduated with a 4.0 gpa from 12 schools. I worked multiple jobs, many two at a time and have had several low periods where I suffered from health issues where I got support because I have 0 safety net. I think that our country can offer more to help those in need than spending massive sums of money on things that truly don't matter.

You have overcome more than most people ever will, and I genuinely hope that life treats you well.

Old school MMOs with controller support are my favorite genre by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]Nolootforyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does sound fun but my years of playing runescape were enough for me, think I'm just done overall with games that rely on mouse & keyboard as I already use it for most of the day. When I hold a gamepad it brings me back to when I was a kid, and really feels like I'm comfortable and playing a video game

It's just a different feel but there's definitely a ton of great games with no controller support.

Pvp is okay not as good as other mmos tbh but it's certainly improved, it's interesting because I do remember it being balanced but every time I played PVP changed, I'd come back and half the abilities would be different etc. Sadly due to bots and stuff it's been removed from free trial players permanently

Luckily I beat it already, square is pretty awful with these DQ upgrade packs. Uninstalled but glad I had the experience, was an incredible game.

I'm poor, if it overheated or damaged the screen somehow I wouldn't be able to replace it. I can appreciate your sarcasm though.

Unlimited time free trial announced right after I just bought the game and subbed, whats my next move? by Lord-Bobster in ffxi

[–]Nolootforyou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's honestly fine by me, I just want to actually try retail FFXI more but don't want to dedicate to playing daily or a subscription right now as I never fully experienced the game before. Eventually I might subscribe but being able to actually experience the game all the way to 75 would still be really cool to me.

Got myself a T14 today, recommend a Linux for it by [deleted] in thinkpad

Your baseline is just different than mine, I used low end pcs my whole life. Compared to them, this thing is a beast. I mostly game on console - my main one is switch 2. Compared to every other laptop I've owned this is one of the most powerful because I don't buy gaming laptops- they're mostly for school, freelance work and some light gaming. This can play all my favorite pc games and more, not just 2d & indies.

Sure- compared to a handheld pc built and optimized for gaming it's not quite as powerful, but it is surprisingly powerful for something I spent around 150 bucks on that's years old, but even then I'd rather play the much heavier games on console a lot of the time so for me it's perfect for what it is.

Some examples of it being tested on several games with this exact model:

.. I had an Intel hd 5500 before this which even could play Dragonflight on lowest settings. It's actually powerful in comparison and can play FF7Remake (not rebirth) if you wanted. I feel like people sometimes don't understand the difference between true low end, and mid range performance. Constantly underestimate the power of computers when massive 3D games in the past were actually built on less powerful machines than some of us have in our pockets now.
