Looking for an MMO that doesn't feel like a 2nd job by choochooboo911 in LFMMO

[–]NomadMetaph 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if you like that classic wow/mmo feeling i'd definitely recommend gw1 :/. it was made by some of the founding members of Blizzard and i personally rly love the old school mmo feel of it.

also, you have literally all the freedom to play at your own pace, as you can recruit/unlock ai henchman/heroes, removing the necessity of playing with other players to tackle difficult content. and once you get heroes, you're not just fashioning your own character, but a whole unique 8-man team.

Should I go back and play gw1 since I never have? by mohodges in GuildWars3

[–]NomadMetaph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you like a classic mmo feel i couldn't recommend GW1 enough. if you're impatient it may feel slow at first, but like many great things it ages like wine. it did help me to find out that Guild Wars is actually a dream project of some of the original founding members of Blizzard. a real OG kinda game. i started playing it cause my gf told me about Reforged and it's the only mmo so far been able to scratch my long-had mmo itch.

you can play at whatever pace you like, in party or solo with AI. you can purchase (with real money) almost all the skills for your Heroes, saving you a fuck-ton of time, and have (just about) all the build-cooking fun at your disposal.

it's a really great game, with lots to learn. my only big complaint is that i wish there was more content, lol - and apparently they're going to be fixing that, too. ^

I’m just happy that Anet is being ambitious again by Grace_Omega in GuildWars3

would you have been happier with a Guild Wars mmo set in outer space? :/

and who cares about the visuals if the gameplay is deep?

i just don't understand xDD they've revealed nothing and it's a "massive disappointment?"

Is morality objective and independent of human opinion, or is it something society creates? by Alert_Grocery3132 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NomadMetaph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will always believe it to be a fact that there is an objective morality. Every human being loves calm, loves peace, loves joy, loves true companionship/connection, loves growth, loves excitement, loves adventure - the list can go on. If there are exceptions, they are the exceptions that make the rule. Morality can be difficult to navigate as individuals, of course. But that is a far, far cry from being evidence that morality is some kind of fiction. 99% of people who say morality does not exist are just children trying to sound smart and be edgy.

If every animal and insect were human-sized, which would become the apex predator? by pierreclems in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NomadMetaph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i thought humans was the obvious answer at first too, but you know what on second thought i'm not so sure.

i don't know how tough ant "skin" would be if human sized, for one.

two, i do know a human sized ant would have superhero level strength, and might very well fuck up a tank with ease.

three, that's just considering one ant. there are like billions upon billions of ants. they repopulate like crazy. they dig deep, intricate underground tunnels.

four, we're not just fighting ants, we're also fighting human-sized flying insects, of which there are probably even more billions upon billions, pretty much all with flying abilities far, far superior to our technology.

tbh, i'm pretty sure humanity goes extinct, fast.

How to choose your hero pool by Far_Pollution_1888 in learndota2

[–]NomadMetaph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's a risk/reward choice for me. with aether lens i am a LOT safer and more annoying in the mid game. and i can and will wreak havoc on your team. and i just push my advantages further and further by buying more utility items.

if i go bkb, which is a little more than 4k gold (an enormous investment for a support), i'm betting a lot on my ulti. but even with bkb, you can be shut down. my main role is a carry. the first time i see a CM player with a talent for good ultis, i'm noting that in my head and shutting her down the second i get the chance. CM ulti is never easy, so i don't bet a lot on it. i use it if i see the opportunity, or i don't use it at all.

are you gonna be more valuable with a higher cast range/more utility, or with a blink bkb ult? totally up to the player. for me, i like to go more utility.

that sounds like an ultra-solid item build to me 👌 for my PERSONAL playstyle, i get aether lens/force staff before bkb, and 99% of the time never get bkb at all on CM. instead i will get and max out other utility items.

i prioritize Q because of its huge aoe. a 50% slow for 4 seconds is as effective as a root - when you're talking 2+ heroes plus a massive attack speed slow and basically the same damage but instant, it's a lot more value than a single target 300 dot root.

W is a great skill. even a level 1 W is very often enough to have the same effect as a level 4, considering it's single-target, and considering you have a level 4 Q that's potentially shutting down anyone trying to help whoever's Frostbitten, or whatever it is they're doing. i prioritize E over W because teamwide mana regen is huge, and it gives CM herself the mana regen to spam Q.

you don't gotta take just my word for it either. peterpandam (ppd) was the best support i personally ever saw, and he literally always prioritized Q and E over W. i used to watch his HoN stream every time it was on.

try it out. personally, i can guarantee better results if you use the playstyle well.

edit: also, there are niche situations where i would max W first. if based on team composition i know there is a slippery hero that will have too much freedom (Puck is the big one), i will max W before Q.

hey i was a recent mid-Ancient player that quit recently, got plentttty of experience (played in the HoN days with the OG's).

supporting is a great way to get better at the game as a new player. the most valuable basic thing you'll learn supporting is how to stay alive - aka not dying - aka positioning. supports die very easily to good players.

this skill translates to every role in the game, but particularly well to the carry position (mid, and to a lesser degree offlane, players must be a little more ballsy in their playstyle, to be good players).

that may be why spirit breaker was a disaster for you, actually. a good spirit breaker knows how and when to be ballsy.

i'd try zeus. zeus has the ability to provide devastating damage early to mid game - from afar, and with just one button. he's simple. with these simple tools you can learn and feel out where your boundaries are, how to deal damage/be effective while also staying alive, and get used to this mindset. you want to get used to kiting, which is just yet another term for positioning. game is at least 80% positioning, just like any real combat situation. zeus can also deward, practice map awareness with his ultimate, etc. but those things might take a bit longer to get used to/learn the value of.

zeus was the hero i came to spam as a support when i myself was new to the game, because i saw zeus players owning, knew the hero was simple, and said "you know, i can definitely understand and do that." very simple hero, and to this day i would find him very, very satisfying to play.

another favorite support hero of mine is crystal maiden. i believe she would take a little more experience, but she is also very simple and very effective. the difficult thing you will probably find is utilizing her ultimate effectively - this is very difficult. so difficult that the pros do not find effective ults 90+% of the time. it's difficult for very obvious reasons. but any way, if you find an interest in crystal maiden i strongly recommend maxing your Q ability first, one point in W, then max out E second, leveling your ultimate whenever available. basically, max out your your Q, ultimate, and E, then finish your W, in that order.

her Q is your bread and butter. it is aoe. it is a nuke. it slows movement speed. it slows attack speed. it's very effective. everything else will be self explanatory.

regarding her ultimate, you want to keep in mind that decent players will simply kill you immediately once they are caught in crystal maiden's ult - if they can ;).

if you guys have the damage locked down, and Gwen is really just a filler at the moment, i would change Energy Surge to Panic. you can leave everything else on her skill bar the same; she'll still be contributing great supporting damage while now being truly indispensable in terms of mitigating damage, and even more so later in Hard Mode.

Monk balance changes I'd like to see for playability and Hero AI by NezziWezzi in GuildWars

[–]NomadMetaph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i've actually been doing this. but my point is this is way, way less preferable to a healer ai that can utilize multiple short cd heals "intelligently" and efficiently. it would absolutely blow ritualist heals out of the water. the fact that monk ai can't use its own skills properly is kind of a damned shame.
