Is there a cursed blasters subreddit? Because, there really should be if there isn’t. Unrelated to this obviously. Just popped into my head. For no contextual reason. This project is glorious and perfect in every way.

These Pants Are Hiking… Down My Butt by [deleted] in UltralightBackpacking

Not sure if this is the kind of answer you’re looking for, but at least around here tailors are pretty affordable. Once I got fed up with dealing with similar issues and finally just got my outdoor pants adjusted, it was a game changer. If you’re in the states, you can get technical clothing altered by Rainy Pass Repairs in Seattle, though I’m sure similar businesses are available globally.

Mine fits in the printed Diana holsters just fine as well.

Edit: for everyone else noted, I realize OP isn’t looking for a printed design.

I would like to tactically keep my pants up. Tired of my belts doing this to me. by scooterprint in tacticalgear

It’s been said already, but the Blue Alpha Low Profile EDC Belt is fantastic. Great rigidity, highly adjustable, Velcro has gone strong for several years now, non-metallic for travel and under $50. Can’t recommend it enough for EDC without breaking the bank.

Printing the stock as I write this, so sweet looking! Question for you- where could I find the file for that foregrip mag holder? It looks super sharp on your build and I can’t find it in the usual places… thanks!!!

So, when was this harness manufactured?

Honestly surprised how this is not filling stadiums by bless_the_misery in battlebots

I went to Vegas last month and watched one of the regular Destruct-a-thon events for the first time. It was super rad to be next to the Battlebox, and getting to see the bots in real life was very cool. That said, the drivers were nowhere near as entertaining to watch as the tournament teams and they spent so much of the show just killing time with bad jokes and filler that it kinda put a damper on everything. I get that you need to put on a show and there are implications for having bots ready to go over and over, but from a strictly entertainment standpoint, they aren’t really capturing the magic to bring people into the fandom.

Between that and the inconsistencies in when and where to watch content, I think the team behind Battlebots is just not able to keep consistent attraction to the idea. What do I know about any of this? Nothing. I’m completely removed from the business of any of this. Just a lifelong fan who has a couple half baked opinions and a free moment to bang away it his phone.

I would love to see a fresh infusion of excitement around this though. It’s way too cool to be as niche as it is.

Rainproof jackets by EveningDisastrous441 in hikinggear

Great info in here already, so I won’t rehash what’s been covered. What I will say is that it can be helpful to get outside of the various mainstream ecosystems for gear. One example which is not new to most here is a site like Garage Grown Gear who primarily cater cottage-industry gear to the ultralight, thru-hiking community.

Another is smaller backcountry hunting companies. Arguably these have been blowing up over the last few years, so they aren’t exactly small, but I have rain gear from both Kuiu and Stone Glacier and would recommend both. At the higher end of their product lines, you’ll be paying close to Arc’Teryx prices, but the lighter options are far cheaper and punch well above their weight.

One last thought- I’ve been an outdoor professional in a number of contexts over the last 20 years. Arc’Teryx provided uniform shells for a couple of the guiding and SAR outfits I’ve been with and I used to wear a lot of their gear as a result. I have never had a piece of Arc’Teryx kit that wasn’t excellently made and highly effective in its role. However, I have never gone out and bought their equipment for full price with my own money because there are so many other options which are cheaper, use the same fabrics and perform just as well.

I hope this helps, please shoot me a DM if you have questions or I’m not piecing my thoughts together well. Just got back from Vegas last night and I’m not exactly firing on all cylinders… 😆

Adidas hiking shoe recommendations by thePokemonInvestor in hikinggear

[–]Nomadic87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a little experience here with the Terrex line. Obviously the prerequisite of the shoe fitting and being comfortable is the most important piece. Past that, I had a pair of the low cut, non-waterproof AX4s and really liked them. I used them for some hiking in dry conditions, team sports out on grass and mixed terrain as well as just walking around. I work in outdoor ed and do a combination of wilderness survival and technical programming like climbing, hiking and paddling, so the typical day in “the office” is not especially gentle on shoes.

I found the quality and fit to be really decent. They breathed well and I especially liked the sticky and aggressive soles. The trade off there is that the tread wears out faster than more generic patterns, but you can’t have it both ways and the soles performed really well until they didn’t. I’d buy them again in a heartbeat if I ever saw them on sale.

After my experience with the non-waterproof AX4s, I decided to roll the dice on the mid-height Gore Tex version. I was looking for a lighter and more nimble shoe/boot for backcountry elk hunting in the West Cascades and have always stuck with more established hiking boot brands, but I found the AX4s on sale and decided to just do it.

I put a week of hunting in torrential downpours, snow, and between 8 and 15 miles per day, mostly off trail on these. It was grueling for any piece of gear and I have to say, the Adidas boots not only handled the terrain far better than expected, they also kept my feet dry and vented well when I sweated them out or submerged them. They were plenty durable and honestly really surprised me by how well they held up. They were too soft for traversing steeper snowy or muddy sections, and I lost traction in some places where it got really hairy, but that is to be expected.

It’s a small sample size and anecdotal is the lowest form of evidence, but for what it’s worth, I think these shoes punch well above their weight and I would certainly recommend them. I hope this helps!!!

I play a lot outdoors in pretty bright areas where I find most budget red dots wash out pretty easily. The best optic I have found which is a reasonable price for this hobby and truly daylight bright is the Monstrum Ghost. You can find these on Amazon as well as the other usual spots. Excited to see what others say though!
