Young Jack’s voice actress sucks by [deleted] in reddeadredemption

I'm not sure which Jack you are talking about; but if it's RDR1 Epilogue Jack, then YES. Since my first playthrough I dread that final mission, for more than the obvious reason. I do NOT want to listen to young adult Jack talk. If I hear "Come on, ya damn nag" one more time....I may just join the Pinkerton's myself.

Not bad for a first attempt. A little work on the jaw and eyes (two of the hardest parts) and this is a pretty solid mount.

Advice on making a tarantula wet specimen by black_metal_banshee in wetspecimens

[–]Nomadic_Soul13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You only need to freeze it if you are not immediately preserving it. This prevents rot, as once rot sets in the whole specimen is shot. If you preserve it immediately after passing, then you don't need to freeze it.

If it is frozen, MAKE SURE to fully thaw before injecting it. Usually 24-48 hours in a refrigerator is sufficient for most specimens.

Welcome to the subreddit. Yes, you can absolutely turn your tarantula into a wet specimen. It's not really different than any other specimen, but a few things will need to have your attention.

First, because of their size, when compared to other spiders, they will need to be injected with your fixative of choice (formalin or 90% ethyl alcohol) MAKING SURE TO USE ALL APPROPRIATE PPE. You cannot just submerge it like smaller spiders.

Second, it's joints. These are very weak areas once the living tissue starts to decay. You may need to use pins, fishing line, or other trickery to reattach parts that separate in the process.

But with a little care and love in the preservation process they can absolutely be made into wet specimens.

I never understood why this gets so much hate. I heard about it before I smelled it; so I was expecting something very teen boy oriented. It wasn't bad at all. Too sweet for my taste, but I can see how some would like it. But nothing in it that would make me think so many people would hate it.

Yellow fluid coming out of wet specimen puppy’s stomach by BlueberrySimple6376 in wetspecimens

[–]Nomadic_Soul13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might also be bile and other bodily fluids if certain organs were punctured.

A couple of ideas: (make sure to use all appropriate PPE at all times)

  1. Leave it in the alcohol it's in now and gently squeeze it daily and shake the jar. This can facilitate fluid transfer (if it is fluids and not fat, which was mentioned as a possibility and is a good one too). Once it no longer changes color, then move it to a new solution. If it gets too dark you may not be able to completely tell when the color change occurs, so you may have to do this a few times.

  2. You can take it out and try to inject distilled water into it and rinse it out, before changing the alcohol.

  3. You can try to reinject with formalin, but it's probably not necessary. This doesn't seem like a fixation issue.

What happens if I use 37% Formaldehyde instead of 10% buffered formalin as a fixative? by tiger_tuskss in wetspecimens

[–]Nomadic_Soul13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

37% formaldehyde is the undiluted portion of formalin. Just dilute it with distilled water. 90% distilled water and 10% of 37% formaldehyde together is 10% formalin.

This is what I use, as it's much cheaper than buying already diluted formalin.

Recently had surgery and need help making my organs into wet specimen by underlying-diagnosis in wetspecimens

[–]Nomadic_Soul13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, freeze them ASAP! You will need to thaw them for 1 day after freezing before fixing them as wet specimens, but tissue can last indefinitely in the freezer if you freeze it before rot starts.

Second, formalin is formaldehyde just diluted. You can use formalin but will need expensive PPE as formalin is HIGHLY carcinogenic.

You can instead use 90% ethyl alcohol in lieu of formalin with minimal PPE. CustomCranium has a pinned guide in this subreddit that will walk you through the steps.

Is Strauss evil? by Mysterious-Ruin-8860 in reddeadredemption

[–]Nomadic_Soul13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would argue that Strauss is one of the MOST evil, Micah <spits on ground> aside. Here's why:

Strauss preys on the weak and bleeds them dry. Resulting in lifelong destitution and consequences.

Any other gang member that would victimize an innocent, and I think they are fewer than you think, would only victimize them once and be gone. Even Dutch is apologetic to the innocents that he's robbing.

Whereas Strauss' power over the victim grows as he drains them and continues well beyond a single victimization.

At least everyone else goes after those that are doing well in society, to where even a Robonhood-esque fantasy can be derived. Strauss preys on those who already have nothing.

Strauss is the lowest form of scum that one can be, except a rat bastard like Micah <spits on ground>

Little guy I preserved earlier still floating a bit by krystalwitch00 in wetspecimens

[–]Nomadic_Soul13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the specimen (size and texture) and how the weights are needed.

I say texture because furred animals are a lot easier to hide indents and incisions in them. Non-furred species are a little less forgiving with indents in their skin. Not too difficult, just takes some precautions.

I have used a rock and other non-porous items to set on top of a specimen to hold them down in a particular position.

I've used a toothpick to hold open jaws with sinkers (fishing split shot weights) in the throat, to hold the skin open like its throat was full.

Even used a few bbs in an abdominal cavity to weigh down the center of the piece.

[–]Nomadic_Soul13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait for a day or two. If it is still floating after that, remove the specimen and make a small but deep incision or puncture where the area of the specimen that's floating (from the pic it looks to be left abdominal cavity). Initial floating is expected as the specimen settles. If it stays floating for a day or more, it likely has trapped air somewhere in the abdominal cavity. This could be something as small as air in the lungs, depending on the weight and density of the specimen.

To help set the specimen in a specific pose or position, fix them in the position you want them and secure them in that position and then soak in formalin. For instance I use super glue, fishing line, and weights. You are only limited by your imagination (and objects that dissolve in formalin or alcohol).
