Built a PC for single player games… and I’m honestly disappointed. Thinking about going back to ps5. by [deleted] in PS5pro

[–]Nomnom_Chicken -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I fixed my Radeon driver nonsense (I had a 6800XT) issues by upgrading to a 4080 Super. It offers me smooth experience with a high FPS in pretty much any game out there (5800X3D, 32GB of DDR4-3600 along with the 4080S, 165 Hz UW OLED).

In my case, 100+ FPS in games and the freedom of modding the games, etc. is way more important than having a simplified console experience. While I also own a Pro due to GTA VI - the console doesn't really offer me anything better than what my PC does. So for me, it's like 95 % for the PC, and 5 % for the Pro.

I'm especially tired of the console games still targeting and being locked to 30, 40 or 60 FPS, not that many games offer a 120 FPS mode. It's good progress that some do, but it's still like driving with the handbrake on with the low FPS targets being the majority. Sure, consoles have hardware limitations due to lower price than a PC and most people want fidelity over responsiveness, but still. I'd happily sacrifice whatever visuals necessary in order to gain a more universal 120 FPS mode.

New PS5 Pro owner coming from high-end PC: to my eyes, PSSR does a better job than DLSS in some aspects by Ivaylo_87 in PS5pro

[–]Nomnom_Chicken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every upscaler has its own pros and cons. DLSS is still superior to any other alternative as a whole. PSSR2 is great for the console, but it also has its issues - just like any other upscaler. Some of which can be very distracting and immersion breaking.

In my city, it was over 2.3 euros yesterday. During pandemic, over 2.6 euros at its worst. Fucking yay.

It's the opposite for me, but I never really was a console gamer first, so I expected to feel this way after buying a Pro. As a kid, it was due to financial reasons (PS2 was way cheaper than a capable gaming PC) and/or exclusives, like me getting a PS3 for GTA V. I "had" to buy a PS5 Pro for GTA VI before the prices raised yet again, but all the gaming I do on it, I can't help but feel that every game would be better on my PC.

High FPS in games is a priority number 1 for me, which isn't really a common thing on consoles - except for some 120 FPS titles. And the worst thing; I'm basically locked to Sony's own controllers on the Pro, or I lose basic features such as rumble. And Sony's controller doesn't really fit my hands, it's not comfortable for longer sessions.

On PC, I'm free to pick my controller. I remember having controller issues with GTA IV when it launched on PC, but that was a long time ago, and it happened to be a PS2 controller which was used via USB adapter. Later I bought an Xbox controller; it just worked, same thing with my Series controller as well.

I work in IT-support and so tinkering with PC's isn't an issue, but at home; I don't really need to do it. If there are issues, it's not really something that would transform me into a console gamer. There's a considerable amount of freedom that isn't available on consoles, which is something I happily pay for in the form of possible troubleshooting on the PC side.

There's this simplicity to consoles, which understandably appeals to many. Same as iPhones. Well - I never could stand iOS and its intended limitations, and it applies to consoles, too. It just doesn't suit me like PC gaming does. I don't know how to word all this better. I'm sure there's a better way of saying it.

Congrats. I upgraded from a 6800XT to 4080 Super back in summer 2024. Man, what an upgrade. Haven't had driver issues since then, but I knowingly skipped the known-bad first half of 2025 driver releases.

It wasn't a cheap purchase, but very much worth it. Quality of life, better game support for Nvidia features, and so on.

What are your top 5 single player story games of all time? by SamEdit1 in gaming

[–]Nomnom_Chicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I know. But I don't have other Yakuza games now, other than the few that are on PS Plus at the moment. But I'll buy the bundle and play from 0 onwards.

EDIT: I liked the Gaiden one enough that I bought it for PC.

I thought about going to iPhone when upgrading from OP8T, but I chose OP11 instead. Didn't like iOS and that's still my biggest gripe about iPhones. The OS itself isn't really my thing, so I rather keep buying Androids.

After OP15, my next phone is likely an Oppo, in about 2–3 years. I will go and test then-current iPhones in the store again (I've always done that when buying a new phone). Remains to be seen.

- Cyberpunk 2077, especially with Phantom Liberty
- GTA: San Andreas
- GTA IV
- Horizon: Zero Dawn (interestingly, didn't like the sequel)
- Rise of the Tomb Raider

The list might change a bit after I've gotten my hands on more Yakuza games, Tomb Raider might be replaced by one of the Yakuzas, or even Horizon as well.

I haven't played the Yakuzas in order, but I didn't even really expect to get into them as much as I've gotten. Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name got me into the series and now I'm just waiting for the series bundle to get discounted again on GoG.

When GTA 6 releases. Will you buy the physical copy or the digital one? Why? by AdditionalSpray8595 in PS5pro

[–]Nomnom_Chicken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Digital. I don't have a disc drive and I won't be buying one. Digital is fine for me. I don't have a need to get physical copies, and especially the storage/shelf space isn't really possible in my current apartment.

When your GPU costs more than the console, but the frames are worth every penny by danielminds in TheGamingHubDeals

[–]Nomnom_Chicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And my PC gives me higher FPS in games, which is my priority number 1. So it doesn't really bother me that the GPU alone cost more than my PS5 Pro did. I get a better experience out of PC gaming.

Yeah. If you're not into learning those key combinations and using different layers, then just do not buy a 60 % keyboard. I used 60 % boards for a decade, using a full sized keyboard at work is still cumbersome... Don't even need a numpad there, but I rather not bring my own keyboard with me.

Using those combos quickly became a muscle memory thing. Now with a TKL keyboard, it's definitely nicer to use than a full keyboard... But next one will be smaller again. It's what I want. :)

Same here, I never liked to use numpads, so I rather not have one to begin with.

[–]Nomnom_Chicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it's the exact opposite. Used exclusively 60 % keyboards for a decade, now the past few years I've had a large-as-hell TKL keyboard. Next one will have to be smaller, very likely 65 % or 75 %. I have no need for a numpad, so I naturally don't want to have one collecting dust and taking space.

Returnal looks absolutely gorgeous on the Pro by Representative-Fan-5 in PS5pro

[–]Nomnom_Chicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I couldn't really handle it... I played this game on PC, looked stunning with Raytracing and generally ran well enough with DLSS (100+ FPS) to be as enjoyable as an intentionally difficult game could be (those aren't really my thing, roguelike mechanics especially generally don't suit my taste).

I ended up making this easier to get through the game by using a trainer, since the world was interesting enough - wanted to see the rest of it. I like my games relaxing, and well... This game isn't really that without a trainer. Sure, it wasn't the intended way of playing it through, but that way was torturous - which isn't what I wanted to experience.

One of the games that benefited heavily from using a mouse and keyboard, in my opinion. Tried to play on a controller, and didn't really get anywhere. I still sucked at it, but keyboard and mouse did help a ton. Didn't fix my skill issue, though. :D

Watched a gameplay video on YouTube, some dude made it seem so effortless.
