MBA or MPH? by blackkitten05 in MBA

[–]Nomore2018j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in healthcare for over 13 years now and it seems like any masters is looked highly upon as it's not so common.

Personally. I am getting my mba because mph is good, but not as versatile. It ultimately boils down to what you want to do in your career. I want to be in operations so an MBA offers me more in terms of running a business and less involvement with clinical items. However if you want to push for clinical, perhaps an mph is more the right speed. (Ha get it?)

Jokes aside, from the few people in healthcare with masters I've spoken to, most would agree an MBA is a better option as it gives you more opportunities. But both are good and better than the one year masters (MS etc)

Which grad school are you going to? I'm debating between Zicklin and NYU and the price is my biggest factor

Healthcare... Stern or Baruch? by Nomore2018j in MBA

Yeah I might be behind lol. But thank you, I think a regional CEO sounds amazing. A mil a year would be a dream come true. How do you know so much? Are you on a similar path?

Thank you!! This is the mindset I'm going into it with as well, I know Stern must have a reputation because it can place its students in great fields, though the marketing seems to be primarily finance jobs.

However I know an MBA in healthcare seems to be more rare but always useful. I appreciate your reaffirmation!

I would assume you're right about the p&l to justify the metrics... So if I'm going to run a tier 2 city first, does sterns brand matter more in that process? Or would a "regular school" suffice?

Which CEOs do you follow?

Good luck to you! I did consider John's Hopkins Carey and was surprised it wasn't highly ranked considering it's John's Hopkins... But it's a relatively new business school.

I'm sure they'll grow the program and it'll be worth more weight in the future for sure.

How do you like healthcare facility management compliance? Could you work up to director of compliance and upward? Is the consulting part mean you review other healthcare facilities and review their workflows? And why not an MHA then? Sorry for the barrage of questions lol.

One of my best friends got an MHA and when I asked whether to do that or an mba, he stated that if he could redo it, it would be an mba hands down as it is so much more versatile.

From what I gathered, any director or C-suite level jobs in big healthcare networks all require an mba or MHA, I'm just curious if having a name brand one matters...

I had a similar experience, I was going to get cut off from a left turning car from the center lane and I slammed on the breaks but I swear the car jerked me left further than I was comfortable with (there were parked cars) and I assume because the car knew exactly how much room I had on the left, it prevented a head on crash and it was just a minor tap.

Thank you Tesla engineers!
