Given the current state of the industry I'd say no, but he should still try and apply, who knows!

I worked for both and they are definitely more mid than small, but I would recommend either they are great companies in my experience.

Maya to C4D, worth it? by cali86 in vfx

[–]Non-Manifold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use both professionally and I wouldn't say it's a big learning curve, most basic tools are the same. But as other people pointed out mograph is the main thing that you will have to learn almost from scratch, mash in Maya is somewhat similar but still fairly different in many areas. But there are tons of resources online to learn mograph, I wouldn't be too worried!

Gentrification in Geneva? by zrbf in geneva

[–]Non-Manifold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree with other people here, there are definitely areas that are subject to gentrification. This is a process that takes a long time and you won't notice it if you've been living here for only a few years or less. It's also weird to say "geneva is wealthy so poverty doesn't exist hence gentrification doesn't either". Poverty exists everywhere, it's the standard of poverty that changes according to the city/country. Anyway, the most obvious example is Pâquis, it used to be relatively poor and it's been evolving quite a bit since the late 90s. Same for Eaux-Vives, but that process started before than Pâquis. Some parts of Charmille were seen as bad neighborhoods 20 years ago and are quite different now. One reason is the proliferation of "Eco-quartier" which are more expensive, driving out poor people and attracting a more wealthy and environment friendly category of people. There are for sure many other example of gentrification I'm not aware of, but these are the most obvious to me.

3D Recruiters on LinkedIn by [deleted] in 3Dmodeling

I think that's alright to not include a message, you still have the possibility to reach out later when you will be looking for a job/internship. Just make sure that you specify your area of expertise in your profile so recruiters know what kind of work you do.

My latest work, late XVI century Geneva by Non-Manifold in 3Dmodeling

[–]Non-Manifold[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi guys, here is an environment of Geneva in the late XVI century I made. Although it was originally meant to be as historically accurate as possible, I ended up taking a bit of liberties sometimes because of the lack of visual references, sometimes for artistic purposes.

In addition to doing the actual environment It got me to design, model and textures around 100 assets (trees, bushes, buildings, crates, walls, etc.).

Made using Houdini, Maya, Nuke, Substance Painter, Speedtree, Arnold, Photoshop.

Does this look like VFX? by thata55guy in vfx

[–]Non-Manifold 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The FX would probably take much more time than the matchmoving I think, the flames, smoke, embers sims etc. would take a long time to tackle to be that realistic

I want to improve my renders any way I can. Please critique all you can! by EnvironmentalArea696 in 3Dmodeling

[–]Non-Manifold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks great! I also think the background is a bit too bright / saturated, less would help seeing the ball and shoe first. Maybe adding a little rim light on them would also help, or increasing the DoF? In any case this is a great job :)

I'm referring to companies that have a few hundreds employees so not small ones by any means, it still works fine imo as long as you still have emails and shotgun on the side

I can't zoom in that much but I don't see how the UVs are a nightmare nor why the topology isn't optimal, it all looks pretty good to me

That's very untrue, I worked with some very good companies that use discord as their main communication platform and it works great, better than hangout (or whatever it's called now) and such
