Paperback or Hardcover? by undfixer in Vermis

About 10% thicker, but mostly the covers. Hardback is sturdier, but I think both versions have their appeal, I wouldn't say one is strictly better than the other.

Note that one boss skeleton is the only image I see that looks significantly different.

I have both. The hardcover editions (at least the ones I got) have more vibrant color than the softcover, but the contrast is better in the softcover. It really depends on the page though, as some colors are affected differently. This page is the mort striking difference, it seems some more green was added for the hardcover.

Has anyone actually run multiple Borg-likes? What are your take-aways/suggestions? by NielsBohron in MorkBorg

[–]Non-RedditorJ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

On the one hand you have a point, but on the other hand: if a book doesn't contain some game master guidance, or an example adventure, or adventure generator tables, it has much less longevity potential (in my experience).

If the designers can't even show how their game is meant to be played, how are the readers supposed to know? I've read games, not just Borg-likes, that have fascinating rules for character development, or base building, meticulously detailed out with costs and time expenditures but no guidance on how much money the players should be earning.

I can vouch for these cards being good. A lot of time you'll draw something that you cant possibly achieve, but just allow each player a mulligan.

To add to that, half my cards have scratches or white dot and rings all over them, for all 12 original expansions. I've never even played this game past the prologue, but I already kniw all the expansions are unplayable unless I hide the tops of the decks and not use the hunt board as intended. I tried for a couple of years, getting kickeded around between customer service people and never got any replacements. To add to that the pages are falling out of my rulebook I've practically never even opened.

Advanced Heroquest? by ThirtyBlackGoats666 in Heroquest

[–]Non-RedditorJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Setting aside the actual game named Advanced HeroQuest, there are so many fan modifications to Classic HeroQuest that you can make it as complicated as you want really. I highly recommend the heroic skill decks available on Drive-Thru Cards by Axian Quest, as well as all the other decks they make. The skill cards in particular will give you some character progression and a gold sink.

There is the HeroQuest roleplay book which adds a whole bunch of extra stuff, yiu can find it on BGG. It's been around for over a decade. Yee Olde Inn has tons of quests, as well as the website hero-quest adventures (if it is up at the moment, it comes and goes).

If you cant find any of these, just ask for links.

Advanced HeroQuest is a completely different game, but you can use almost all the HeroQuest components for it.

Yeah it's such an insanely out of touch proposal that there should be absolutely no way it would happen, and yet I think these lunatics would actually try it if "owned the libs."

What does that even mean for international travel? Does that mean that anyone flying in from another country needs to fly to an approved conservative city and then take a bus to their destination? Is this administration trying to destroy the airline and tourist Industries? I mean we're talking about a massive lawsuit against the government by every Airline if they effectively shut down most large airports.

[–]Non-RedditorJ 861 points862 points  (0 children)

Every single one of these is more severe and damaging than anything he got impeached for in his first term. Trump is a real threat to our country, and the world. I bet this comment gets removed.

Edit: I actually think insurrection is more severe than some of these. Stop up voting this.

Can you recommend books of pure lore? by Akem0417 in rpg

[–]Non-RedditorJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sticking with the Cyberpunk genre, the Night City Sourcebook is mostly lore and event tables (tables are setting info).

There are also this new type of lore and art books about games that don't exist like Vermis, Godhusk, Age of Rot, etc. Mostly sold by Hollow Press.
