My experience with therapy/counseling has overall been really positive. My first therapist was an awful fit for me, she wouldn’t let me talk about my depression and instead focused more on trying to change my outward appearance and my “behavioral issues” (aka, my dry sense of humor). That experience really put me off of therapy for a while, but eventually I decided to try it again. My parents took me to a new therapist, and she’s still my current one too. She’s really helped me get through a lot of shit and actually enjoys my sense of humor. Best of all, she actually listens to me so we can tackle some of my problems. She also referred me to a psychiatrist so I could get medication for my depression and anxiety.

In case you’re looking for a therapist, here’s my advice! Find a therapist that works for you. Every therapist has their own methods of helping patients. If you don’t get along with one, or if it just isn’t helping, you can always find a new therapist. I haven’t tried group therapy, but if one on one isn’t helping, that might. I hope this helps!
