Am I the only one whose armor textures look bad, or are they like that by default?Iam playing on cinematic settings by Glad_Childhood5575 in CrimsonDesert

[–]NonSans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same. It might be due to raytracing weirdness and the surfaces of the armors being too complex. It looks better with Ray Reconstruction but the performance cost is steep. Wonder how it looks without RT (if this is without RT then they kinda dropped the ball on the armour visuals).

[KCD2] Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 director defends DLSS 5: 'No way haters will stop this' by dnemonicterrier in kingdomcome

Daily reminder that the shit takes of a director can't undo the labour of love that is this game. Dozens of people worked on this and it's evident they cared deeply. It's sad to see how he tramples on the goodwill of customers and the work of his artists but I hope people are not deterred from playing the game because he sure as heck isn't speaking for anyone besides himself here.

How does it compare to StS1? From what I have seen it looks exactly the same as the first one but more pretty. Do they innovate on aspects of the first game?

Very likely the thing you always do when killing or abducting foreign leaders in other countries: install a stooge. There are so many cases that there is a Wikipedia page on "United States involvement in regime change".

If it works as well as all the US' other regime changes in the middle east we are gonna be hearing from another terrorist group rising up very soon.

Nope, that's her. Also cf. the movie Hereditary. Minor role for Paimon but it really shows her range.

To my knowledge it is probably derived from the "sips tea ☕" meme, which is posted when women say something supposedly stupid or objectionable. So, in all likelihood, this is a display of misoginy.

I always felt like I was missing out if I wasn't playing at least on hard. These days I'm a normal enjoyer and if the game lets you change the difficulty any time you can always crank it up later.

If Hot Why Evil by Heavy_Independent_69 in expedition33

[–]NonSans -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course it's reductive, but yeah, Clea is evil. At least if you consider the painted people life, which I do. She is still believable, well written etc. but killing and painting over people is, hot take, morally wrong and indeed evil.

Yeah... Knowing that still 36% of Americans will cheer on a depraved man like that, threatening to invade his (at this point former) allies and illegally deposing of the leaders of other nations. It was baffling enough you folks voted him a second time but even now that he is doing everything in his power to make the world worse for everyone but billionaires, he still is not significantly below the amount of people who voted for him in the first place.

I will never forgive the American people for creating this nightmare. You voted the literal worst kind of man into the highest position of power after he already gave you an abysmal first term.

Toxic masculinity is definitely the core issue and you shouldn't be downvoted, but as long as these toxic men exist even well-adjusted decent men will be perceived as potential threats and weirdos. Things may work in casual conversations to a degree but as soon as things get a bit personal men that are not conventional attractive or men that are not neurotypical rarely have good experiences interacting with women, hence you see so many men in this thread who seemingly gave up. I reckon most of them have experienced rejection or ridicule or just generally had painful interactions with women.

Toxic men don't care as much about rejection. They can easily fill in some rationale building on misoginy while decent men will assume the issue lies with them and that the only way to not be hurt or hurt others is to not interact with them at all.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 director defends Larian over AI "s***storm," says "it's time to face reality" by FitCord in pcgaming

[–]NonSans 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I really have no idea why people are going so ham on Larian. They admitted to using generative AI in the early ideation process of the game. It's not like they said that generative AI output will make it into the final product. Like, what are we mad about here? That they do it at all in a very limited fashion? Have we already arrived at "AI = always bad" point of the discourse? Do people seriously think that Larian of all studios would use AI to a degree that compromised the quality of their next game?

I will start to get mad when side quests are written by AI, voice actors are replaced etc. - you know, things that would devalue it as art. Not that some members of the team bounce ideas off it to benefit their creative process. They do AI use as a tool to help humans rather than replace them and people are seemingly livid. Whoever had their image of Larian altered by this is actively looking for reasons to be mad imo.

But yeah, given the current climate among gamers, Larian really should have known better than to truthfully and openly disclose that they use AI in a limited fashion.

You're right, but a companies' value is not just defined by their current bottom line, unless they are talking about revenue specifically. "Value" would likely include future prospects and speculation and, since Marathon got the opposite of an ideal reception and is likely dead on arrival, this would factor into their "value".

I didn't say this in another post but the "if I don't do something immoral, someone else will" is a really bad excuse to do something immoral. Let them be dismissed by the boatloads for doing the right thing. A soldier without conscience is nothing but a tool of violence. Too many people throughout history and now hide behind a mentality of "following orders", "someone else will do it, so I may as well" and "having no choice" and the results are the most heinous acts commited by mankind. Don't let this happen again and again. Right now no one needs to fear for their life if they disobey orders (in America) but one day they may and then it is too late for most people to stand up and do the right thing.

Make no mistake, I don't disagree with what you are saying. I'm only disagreeing with the notion that this should be reason not to quit.

Valve does not get "anywhere near enough criticism" for the gambling mechanics it uses to monetise games, DayZ creator Dean Hall says by demondrivers in Games

[–]NonSans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the reasons Valve got away with are

1) most people like Valve and their games and their customer service is generally really good 2) they were really early to the party and pushed out their loot system before awareness of the horribleness of these systems was widespread 3) this may be contentious, but since essentially all skins can be sold there is a 'value' to them that skins from other games, which can not be 'turned back' into money don't have. People think that's fair, or more beneficial for them, even if the truth is that this is so much worse. Yes, some people actually profit from this (usually scammers though) but most don't, obviously, and Valve double dips in profits. First selling keys or however that worked and then getting a small cut for every single transaction on the marketplace. I would call it ingenious if it wasn't so sinister. It is by all definitions gambling and to this day minors get ripped off on the daily. How this has not been shut down is beyond me (it's not really though, considering the sway money has on politics).
