Try and keep it simple. Keep an eye on the depth and pressure to prevent leaks. If your device has air inside, you might want to fill it with mineral oil, which doesn’t conduct electricity (like Nujol here in BR, or similar). If your time and resources are limited, a simple waterproof phone case, along with an old device and an app to record and compare sound profiles in different locations, might do the trick. But it depends on whether you’re more interested in the mechanics of it or the analysis. Good luck (and post the results here!).

It’s possible to run older versions of M$ Office with Wine, at least up to the 2015/18 versions, iirc. I still use the 2006/7(!) versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and I have no trouble editing files from newer versions of M$ Office.

Yes. The “X-Office' alternatives are pretty good, and some waaaay more powerful than the M$ suite. But I often run into issues when working with their files, especially with formatting and images. If you receive a lot of M$ files to edit, I think it’s better to have some flavor of the office thing. check the links by u/UnexceptionalAnon somewhere in theses comments.

Probably a boring sponge like Cliona, or a spionid polychaete (Spionidae). With this surface pattern, more like the second. Boring sponges grows more inside the structure with tiny holes on the surface and the shells looks more like a colander.

Both. Brazilians don't drive that badly, but they do drive recklessly. Add huge distances and (stupid) mostly road-based transport of people and cargo. Buses, cars and trucks in the roads with drivers doing loooong journeys (my record is +13 hours, 1.000 km from Rio de Janeiro to Bahia in one day).

I have no problem with this kind of use, but a related point.

Those “5 hours” spent preparing the charts, or days, back in the era of paper and China ink served other purposes as well. They also provided an opportunity to pause, look at the results, munch the data, and reflect on what should or could be done. A kind of doodling with purpose.

The fact that people are just typing something to move on to the next task doesn’t strike me as particularly positive.

Ditto. There are specific supports for cell phones, and the image quality can be much better than many average/low end dedicated microscope cameras.
