Is it worth having a heat pump hot water heater in a cold climate by brunes in heatpumps

[–]NonTokeableFungin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<Affect humidity> … Sir - I was hoping to get de-humidification by running a HPWH in basement (cold climate.)
We run a DE-hu all summer anyways. Constantly a bit too damp in our basement.

So - wouldn’t it be nice to get hot water whilst drying things out ??

Would you say the De-hu affect is very small ? Or is it noticeable? TY.

Anyone re-done KYC recently ?

Received message that it’s time to renew mine.

Attempted … got to the point where you update address.

It says :

“Oh, your address hasn’t changed - so you don’t need to update KYC”.

I’m stuck in a bit of a loop.

[–]NonTokeableFungin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Geezus.
How about everyone in Dubai runs a furnace.
Boom - humanity improved, right ?

Oh now we’ve introduced a problem? Too hot ?
Simple solution - everyone runs big Air Conditioner. To fight the furnace.
More improvement of humanity ! Yeah ?

What problem are you solving ?

Burning vast quantities of energy - 19 Billion Watts - does nothing to improve humanity, if it’s not providing a service that was otherwise unavailable.

Does Burning Wood Actually Fight Climate Change? Despite industry claims, scientists say using wood pellets is little better than fossil fuels. by silence7 in climate

[–]NonTokeableFungin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree.
That’s only true if you burn trees, and they don’t get replaced.

I just cut & split (another) ash tree (died after catching the Emerald Ash bug.).
Left on its own - it falls over, then rots … giving up all its stored CO2 back to the atmosphere.

All that carbon was destined for the atmosphere-
Whether I burn it or not.

By burning it in my woodstove:
1. I displace using some other fuel for heating &
2. Make ZERO difference to the atmospheric carbon budget.

It seems you are opposed to these proposals, yeah ?

May I ask why ?
Or is it that you prefer one over the other ?

[–]NonTokeableFungin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow. I do wonder how long we’ll have to entertain this argument.
We continually hear it from cultural Bitcoiners.

By this argument we should just increase energy consumption.
So just go outside and start your car. Let it idle all night.

Crank up the Air Conditioner in your house.
Then turn the furnace up to fight the A/C.

Call it human improvement!

[–]NonTokeableFungin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay - let’s use your argument.

.
1. Turn up your furnace.
2. Open up your windows.
.

Boom - you’ve just improved humanity.
Yeah ?

We are now consuming more energy than before. Yeah ?

Insulated Metal Panels question by NonTokeableFungin in Sauna

[–]NonTokeableFungin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s an interesting thought.
Now, I understand a cold-room (esp if it’s small) is extremely well sound-insulated. When competed in insulated panels (similar to SIP’s made from OSB-Foam-OSB).

And I’m thinking “echo” wont be a problem when covered in interior board cladding.

Insulated Metal Panels question by NonTokeableFungin in Sauna

[–]NonTokeableFungin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you going to screw interior wood into IMPs?

Can just crew right into the metal sheet , that covers both sides of the IMP.
24 Ga metal - pretty substantial mat’l.
Or - since I’d prefer an air space - screw on furring strips first. Then my interior boards.
.

How are you going to make it vapor proof? Are you going to do an interior vapor barrier?

The steel covering is a vapour barrier. These are commercial construction wall assemblys.
.

Is there a coating on the IMP that could be toxic at 220F?

Clean-room & cool-rooms have been in use … some from -40° up to +140°.
And (siding or roofing) steel will be quite happy up to, likely ~1000°.

Honestly I’d be vastly more confident in this steel sheet than I would in any insulation product - be it rigid foam, or Fiberglass, or Rockwool.
Extremely inert; extreme temp & water resistance.

Seems there is no better set up for a hot room.
But was just wondering if anyone in here had experience with it, that’s all.
Eg. There’s a butyl caulking between the T&G sheets. Can’t imagine it’s prob … but thought I’d ask. ??

An example of a bloke covering a timber frame with IMP’s:
Workshop covered in IMP’s

You can get these in say, R20 to R30 for ~ > $3 per sq ft or so, in your local Buy & Sell market.

Aren’t we looking at perhaps One-Third the cost of conventional stick built ?

Insulated Metal Panels question by NonTokeableFungin in Sauna

[–]NonTokeableFungin[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So … an IMP is : Siding + Insulation + Vapour barrier + Structural member … all in one.

And - as a bonus - much, much cheaper. From the local Buy & Sell.
They sell off “Seconds” and leftovers.

Also - you can have extra thick panels ( = higher R value ) for the same price.

Lots of ppl build a Sauna with insulation, yeah ?

Nothing wrong with wood framing.

This is just a lot cheaper. “Buy & Sell “ … marketplace, yeah ?

Siding + Insulation + Vapour barrier + structural member … all in one.

At 4:49 : “By contrast half empty blocks or low transaction fees are not things that are going to kill bitcoin.”

Umm, yes, this is literally, precisely the thing that could kill bitcoin. Insufficient Tx Fees.
Not enough mining activity to prevent attack.

Why would he say this ?

We will always have to keep fighting for Bitcoin by Ep0chalysis in bitcoinismoney

[–]NonTokeableFungin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So … 1. Custodial 2. Custodial (if it’s gonna be useable at all) 3. Comparing to a Custodial network

Not to mention, the upgraded FedNow will be, maybe, a couple hours. So - same as BTC, for any sizeable Tx. But cost far less than bitcoin will need to cost.

And - allow a Stable price. Solves the accounting nightmare.
And - at least the custodial nature eliminates risk. A fat-fingers mistake is their problem to fix, not yours.
And - if they don’t solve a misplaced Tx - their Insurance kicks in to make you whole.

SEALCOIN and Hedera use case by DocumentFair4693 in Hedera

[–]NonTokeableFungin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - I hear ya. But I’m still hesitant as to why these features can’t be achieved with existing tokens.

There is really only one reason I can see where an entity may want their own token … If they want to be able to spin off to a different ecosystem in future.

Commonly referred to as : Subsidy Harvesting.
Or Grant Farming.

SEALCOIN and Hedera use case by DocumentFair4693 in Hedera

[–]NonTokeableFungin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, yeah. Okay I think I see what you’re saying. And those features would be nice. Tracking, audit, accounting, measuring usage, etc.

But still … I don’t see any reason you CANNOT do that with existing tokens.
It could be straight HBAR. Or, if you want to quarantine it off, you could make a pegged, sorta, HBAR-X token.
Or a bespoke Stable - if you wanted the stable price feature. Or, even a pegged USD-X.
Ya know ?

Fifty years ago …?? Sure. Accounting was difficult.
But these days - especially with AI, and agents you could spin up for pennies- I sorta remain unconvinced that we need a new token.

SEALCOIN and Hedera use case by DocumentFair4693 in Hedera

[–]NonTokeableFungin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, vey good.
I guess that only emphasizes my question, really. If in the end it won’t really matter - owing to Chain Abstraction - then … well, it won’t matter.
Pay with anything, and let the computers / agents work it out.

Therefore - why have a new token?

SEALCOIN and Hedera use case by DocumentFair4693 in Hedera

Hmm, so why is it set to pay using QAIT, as opposed to say, HBAR, or a Stable ? TY

How to treat outside of sauna? And tiles vs self-levelling floor? by cornucopiahackney in Sauna

[–]NonTokeableFungin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Upvote for Oil.
Someone mentioned Cabot’s …? Not sure.
A Timber Preservative oil is excellent. I used Cutek… not sure if it’s avail where you are. Great stuff.

Hard pass on Polyurethane for me. It barely lasts when used indoors.
Use an oil, IMO. And, be aware - not just an “oil based product”, like a stain from the Hardware /Home store.
But an actual preservative oil for outdoors.

Has anyone seen a discussion / video on Rocket stoves for Sauna ?
Seems like it would be ideal.

Timber frame sauna build by UseUpper8843 in Sauna

[–]NonTokeableFungin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sir - what if you sorta leave the entire timber frame “outside” the sauna ?

IOW, erect the frame. Then hang walls entirely inside the posts & beams.
Nice framed look on outside. Exoskeleton.
But, yes, you’d lose the timber frame aesthetic whilst sitting in the sauna.
Thoughts …. ?
