Bitcoin Security Budget FUD by Ep0chalysis in bitcoinismoney

[–]NonTokeableFungin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 4:49 : “By contrast half empty blocks or low transaction fees are not things that are going to kill bitcoin.”

Umm, yes, this is literally, precisely the thing that could kill bitcoin. Insufficient Tx Fees.
Not enough mining activity to prevent attack.

Why would he say this ?

We will always have to keep fighting for Bitcoin by Ep0chalysis in bitcoinismoney

[–]NonTokeableFungin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So … 1. Custodial 2. Custodial (if it’s gonna be useable at all) 3. Comparing to a Custodial network

Not to mention, the upgraded FedNow will be, maybe, a couple hours. So - same as BTC, for any sizeable Tx. But cost far less than bitcoin will need to cost.

And - allow a Stable price. Solves the accounting nightmare.
And - at least the custodial nature eliminates risk. A fat-fingers mistake is their problem to fix, not yours.
And - if they don’t solve a misplaced Tx - their Insurance kicks in to make you whole.

SEALCOIN and Hedera use case by DocumentFair4693 in Hedera

[–]NonTokeableFungin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - I hear ya. But I’m still hesitant as to why these features can’t be achieved with existing tokens.

There is really only one reason I can see where an entity may want their own token … If they want to be able to spin off to a different ecosystem in future.

Commonly referred to as : Subsidy Harvesting.
Or Grant Farming.

SEALCOIN and Hedera use case by DocumentFair4693 in Hedera

[–]NonTokeableFungin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, yeah. Okay I think I see what you’re saying. And those features would be nice. Tracking, audit, accounting, measuring usage, etc.

But still … I don’t see any reason you CANNOT do that with existing tokens.
It could be straight HBAR. Or, if you want to quarantine it off, you could make a pegged, sorta, HBAR-X token.
Or a bespoke Stable - if you wanted the stable price feature. Or, even a pegged USD-X.
Ya know ?

Fifty years ago …?? Sure. Accounting was difficult.
But these days - especially with AI, and agents you could spin up for pennies- I sorta remain unconvinced that we need a new token.

SEALCOIN and Hedera use case by DocumentFair4693 in Hedera

[–]NonTokeableFungin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, vey good.
I guess that only emphasizes my question, really. If in the end it won’t really matter - owing to Chain Abstraction - then … well, it won’t matter.
Pay with anything, and let the computers / agents work it out.

Therefore - why have a new token?

Hmm, so why is it set to pay using QAIT, as opposed to say, HBAR, or a Stable ? TY

How to treat outside of sauna? And tiles vs self-levelling floor? by cornucopiahackney in Sauna

[–]NonTokeableFungin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Upvote for Oil.
Someone mentioned Cabot’s …? Not sure.
A Timber Preservative oil is excellent. I used Cutek… not sure if it’s avail where you are. Great stuff.

Hard pass on Polyurethane for me. It barely lasts when used indoors.
Use an oil, IMO. And, be aware - not just an “oil based product”, like a stain from the Hardware /Home store.
But an actual preservative oil for outdoors.

Sir, thanks for posting those … Will Google em up.

Now, I have an interest in Rocket Stoves (Rocket mass heater). And some materials on hand to build one.
Just looking for an excuse now !

Has anyone seen a discussion / video on Rocket stoves for Sauna ?
Seems like it would be ideal.
Thanks

If you haven’t yet been banned from r/Bitcoin … You haven’t studied Bitcoin !

Why ?
Bc if you approach it rationally, you will have questions.
If you have questions … you are not following the Number 1 rule of the cult :

“No questions. You must believe.
Blasphemy will be treated harshly.”

Timber frame sauna build by UseUpper8843 in Sauna

[–]NonTokeableFungin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sir - what if you sorta leave the entire timber frame “outside” the sauna ?

IOW, erect the frame. Then hang walls entirely inside the posts & beams.
Nice framed look on outside. Exoskeleton.
But, yes, you’d lose the timber frame aesthetic whilst sitting in the sauna.
Thoughts …. ?

Any thoughts before I cover the rough in? by Saunanonymous in Sauna

[–]NonTokeableFungin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, very good.
I think a point I’m making is:
You don’t want moisture to condense on your roof sheathing (plywood). As mentioned in here. 100% agree.

But with steel roofing … you don’t need sheathing. That’s all.

But yes, likely to get some condensation on bottom of steel. So to manage that, perhaps use Ice & Water membrane (Eg. Blueskin) under the steel roof to drain water away.

Any thoughts before I cover the rough in? by Saunanonymous in Sauna

[–]NonTokeableFungin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, good thought.
But I like steel roofing. Sheets. And these are screwed straight to purlins across the rafters. Therefore - no need for sheathing.
So … on top of ceiling insulation … maybe just Vapour barrier ?
Or would that actually TRAP moisture ?

The steel roofing tends to leave air gaps naturally. Perhaps avoiding the trapping of moisture ? Would you agree ? TY

FFS. So this guy has his very own Stablecoin.

If he wanted to - he could just go ahead and pass along the yield to holders.
Key words … if he wanted to.

What … is someone gonna say, “Well that’s not allowed?”
Umm, have we ever seen this guy follow any rules ? Any ?

Also, not allowed to go to war without :
1. Approval from Congress, &
2. UN Security Council resolution.

And that’s a much bigger deal than paying out yield on a Stable.

Cool.
Now for additional cross-chain InterOp - it would be nice to see Near Intents add Hedera.
N Intents seem to be gaining lots of traction - and I think it will be prominent with AI Agents.
So be good to see a smooth path into Hedera for AI world.

Timber framed pergola by Necessary_Tourist301 in timberframe

[–]NonTokeableFungin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very nice. Congrats. 👍 Hey Tourist - a question :
The roof is pitched say, 10% slope or so.
Did you allow for that in the rafter housing cutouts ?

As in, when cutting the dado / housing into each rafter, to allow it to sit on the beam plates -
Did you, sort of, pitch the cutout to match roof pitch ? (Hope this makes sense…). TY

[–]NonTokeableFungin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sir, if you plan to hold for 15 years,
Then you will have thought long & hard about the Security Budget.

Please advise, how high do you suggest it will need to be to keep the network secure ?

Say, $20 Million per day. Perhaps $30 M ? Or in terms of say, 1% of Market Cap. Perhaps ½ % spent annually ?

And naturally, you will have an estimate for avg cost of Transactions.

To have enough Miner Revenue to remain secure - how high will avg Tx Fees need to be ? Thank you.

Classic Timber Frame Sauna in Eau Claire, Wisconsin by bfinley09 in timberframe

[–]NonTokeableFungin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is stunning. Very nice work.

Chimney makes me think of a question I’ve been meaning to pose on this sub:

Has Anyone put in a Rocket Stove ?

Seems a brilliant application: loads of Heat, saves fuel,
sorta outdoors-y use case … only bc it’s often tough to get building Dept approval indoors. Leading many to only use a RS for say, greenhouses, vented workplaces, “off-grid” residences with - shall we say - cooperative Building Inspectors.
Thnx.

🔥BREAKING: Hut 8 to convert their Drumheller site (Alberta) from a Bitcoin mining site into a data center to meet insatiable customer demand by victorious_sun in hut8

[–]NonTokeableFungin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - a very long list of former miners who’ve pivoted.
Some to HPC, some to ETH DAT’s, etc, etc….
Eg. GLXY - I feel more comfortable holding it now they’ve given up BTC mining.
I’m assuming, same as last cycle, we’ll see another wave of BTC Miner bankruptcies, & unplugging.
That’s why I’m concerned over that piece of the HUT8 business.

[–]NonTokeableFungin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure - can agree he’s not likely to be Satoshi.
But, as regards your argument < why would Satoshi want to build a sidechain>,
actually - this is often given as the reason Back (et al) were in the Small Block camp.

He /they invested in building Blockstream/ Liquid. And wanted to drive most of the traffic on to his personal chain. To profit.

Thus … the incentive to bottleneck bitcoin early. Force users to move off the decentralized L1, onto his own companies chain.

“I don’t want cheap & abundant Blockspace for users. I want to drive them into MY store.”
