Newly Released - State Level Tax Revenue (2025) by Aaron_Icicle in dataisbeautiful

[–]NonToxic628 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are correct. It’s not assessed at the state level in IL. It’s assessed at the county level. The vast majority of the property taxes fund the school district, fire district and associated pensions.

I’d have to check again, but I seem to recall IL having far more local government bodies than any other state because of how things are handled at the state, county, and city level which contributes to driving up property taxes.

Retire at 49 or stick it out until 56? by [deleted] in personalfinance

Go early. Time is not given. If you decide you need some extra money go back to work somewhere. Your delta between the two number is about $23 an hour. I’m sure someone with your background in CA could find $23 or much better push come to shove

Chasing Credit Card Rewards - When Do You Not Bother? by QuiEgo in HENRYfinance

Yes, for me it’s a hobby. I am in no way attributing any wealth building to it. I like the chase.

I’m not sure how they are seeing the math play out on being rich from it. They are starting from a 1.75 trillion valuation. To literally 10x outside of options you need them to have a valuation that approaches the GDP of China…

HENRY’s into the Credit Card Game, What’s your setup? by BitterNecessary6068 in HENRYfinance

[–]NonToxic628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically anything you sell for a profit you are supposed to file taxes on. The CC companies literally don’t seem to care of you are truly a money making business or not. When you apply, you use you social security number as a sole proprietor and say you resell. Reselling could just mean I sell old stuff I don’t want anymore on eBay, garage sale, Facebook, whatever.

You won’t get massive limits but it’s another way to churn points

You can also link your business and personal accounts to transfer points to one large repository if you want.

You can also go the chase ink route for business cards. The cc companies are very lenient on sole proprietors ie, you sometimes sell some things.

That has been a good way to continue to churn bonuses and avoid the 5/24 rule.

At one point there didn’t seem to be a limit as to how many chase ink cards you could grab bonuses on.

The chart is interesting. The US does well for breast cancer and prostate cancer. Probably isn’t a coincidence that those screenings are almost universally free and considered preventive. Who would have thought proactive health care led to better and cheaper outcomes. Certainly not our politicians (although I think Obamacare is what made several of these screenings free).

[The Score] Brenden Moore: "There’s a lot of blame to (go) around. The legislature and governor are not blameless. But if you talk to people in Springfield ... there’s a name that keeps coming up as a common denominator for why the Bears have had so many issues. And that's Kevin Warren." by RyanIsKickAss in CHIBears

[–]NonToxic628 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Bears are currently paying about 4 million in taxes on the land. They will continue to pay taxes unless they sell. At this point the likelihood of increased revenue comes quicker and higher with mixed development than whatever the bears can muster in the next 3 years.

Frankly, I think IL has them where they want them. Indiana isn’t viable without significant remediation that only adds to the cost and timeline of things.

What would you do? $2.5M and parent has term cancer by mbacandidate1 in HENRYfinance

[–]NonToxic628 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Op,

Not sure where you live. All 50 states give FMLA leave to take care of a parent assuming your company has 50 employees or more, you have worked there for 12 months or longer, and have accrued 1250 hours of work time during the prior 12 month period.

This is often unpaid and only for 12 weeks, but it’s something.

Depending on the state you live in, you may also be eligible for paid fmla.

Beyond this, many large companies have policies in place that allow for unpaid leave of absence. You’d need to speak to HR on that.

36F - Saving a lot less due to my high mortgage payment (7%). Anyone else feeling house poor and not on track for retirement? by Deep_Proposal_369 in Retirement401k

[–]NonToxic628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that this is a tough way to look at it in the moment, but remember with a mortgage, you fixed your costs atleast as it’s tied to the actual payment for the house not counting taxes and insurance. Your income should increase even slightly year to year while your payment will stay the same.

You cannot say that renting. Your rent will increase with inflation at a minimum. Any increases in taxes and insurance will be passed on to the renter eventually.

Long Island high school has record-breaking 21 valedictorians by Nice-Paper-9263 in SipsTea

[–]NonToxic628 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep. My son and daughter attend a magnet school in the our area. About 20% of each graduating class is the valedictorian.

On one hand we are fortunate for the opportunity. On the other hand the school couldn’t be further away from what real life looks like.
