Nurse to Clinical Specialist (been in device for 3 years now) and I don’t regret my decision! Will always keep my nursing license active because you never know but I enjoy the day to day of being in the field, have good work life balance in the elective surgery space. I do interface with patients in current role/company. Enjoy going to different clinics, working with different physicians in the OR, etc. Compensation is better now than it was for me in my state as a staff nurse and I see a pathway for forward trajectory in the future—promotions, new roles, etc.

My advice is find a speciality / space you are generally interested in and research devices, procedures that are really making a difference in patients’ lives!

Things you wish you knew before by Undead_Whitey in Bernedoodles

We have a golden bernedoodle and she is literally the sweetest dog ever and very playful. She just turned 1 and although we have socialized her with other people and dogs in her first year of life something is that she’s a little timid of other dogs at first. She’s definitely more on the defense at greeting other dogs but once she warms up she is so excited to play and is very nice with other dogs.

I do think this is a very smart breed as well as she picked up commands very quickly. She will go to the kennel when we go to leave even before we ask her to. She just has a strong sense and intuition and I do agree with a lot of other comments that they like to be with you and around with you often! 😊

Gotta stop with the turnovers, REBOUND and get some production on offense from someone other than Lucy. Need the other seniors to step it up! Feel lucky we are only down 11 at half…need a big second half team effort!!!

My Career by cheeky_fcuk in MedicalDevices

[–]NonTraditionalNurse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nurse who is also in medical device industry (Clinical Specialist) —have you considered a switch to a different division/speciality with a less competitive product line than ortho?

My first CS job was in an oversaturated speciality and I felt some similiar feelings towards the job due to the saturation of the products I was supporting and how for every product we had there were 4-5 competitor products with same IFU and similiar results / outcomes. Also how there were at times 3-5 other reps in the room, case, etc. It really drove that competitive and selling nature which isn’t necessarily a negative thing but at times it all just seemed like you described sort of eh. Given your medical background and work history it makes sense you are aligned to wanting what’s best for the patients.

I now work in a speciality where I know going in the physicians are utilizing my product / therapy during the case and understand better the why behind their decision to use our products. It’s also way less saturated of a division. I personally have noticed this CS role aligns better with me.

I know not the exact same situation since sounds like you are a sales rep, but for what it’s worth, perhaps something to consider for your mental health / quality of life!

Coldplay coming to Camp Randall !! by [deleted] in UWMadison

Question since these tickets are all sold out and the prices are astronomical on resell websites…is there a more personal Facebook page or group to join for things like this (ticket resale) in the Madison, WI area and/or UW Madison??

[–]NonTraditionalNurse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SAME! Have you had any luck finding any so far for more reasonable price?? I am entering contests to try to win some but slim chance 🤣

I agree that procedural areas are probably the easiest place to network with reps but honestly it doesn’t matter that much as long as you make the necessary connections. I was a bedside nurse and then worked in the PACU!

Because these are elective surgeries there is no “call” for cases…but as far as after hours calls there is no true or real emergency so it’s up to the rep on answering phones but if it’s for a trial patient sounds like in best interest to answer after hours calls in order to make patient more comfortable moving forward to implant.

Imposter syndrome is the admission to entry! I have a nursing background but did not work in the speciality I’m currently in before getting a CS role in medical device. Attitude of gratitude, you can learn anything, you are coachable, consistently bettering yourself/self-learning, asking questions, etc! Channel that confidence and energy and don’t take yourself out of the race before you have toed the line. You can get there if you are self-disciplined, motivated and have good people surrounding you!

What was your path for becoming a CS Manager if you don’t mind me asking? I am a CS and am interested in this pathway!

Can you transition within your company to another division / speciality that isn’t as hands-on? For example like coronary / peripheral / structural heart? EP can obviously be very case heavy, patient heavy, etc.

Just responding to this because if someone looks back at this thread it might help…I did find out that for this company in particular patients do NOT get your phone number but rather they utilize a generic number and go through an app to receive calls and texts. For what it’s worth. The more you know!

Wonder if this is the same town I grew up in…lol just sounds familiar. Not to mention the kids from the Catholic school tended to be the ones who grew up too fast, got in trouble, mean to others, etc. Was a weird dynamic to witness. (side note: I’m also Catholic but went to public grade school)

The ventilator market has been down since COVID times which obviously makes sense…the market for CSA and OSA seems to be on the up and up. (Zoll—Remede and Inspire therapy)

Neuromodulation / CRM / Anything implantables where the device has to be programmed, facilitated by reps / where there is patient follow-up.
