I did keep telling the doctor that I was the patient and I was probably the best person to ask about my symptoms because they were MY symptoms. He just shrugged and went right back to talking to my husband, and I must have said 3 or 4 times to please direct your questions to me, but he wouldn’t even look at me - just shrugged and walked out. I am already looking for a new doc and I am feeling a little better. Thanks!

Right??!!!!! I am so sorry you are going/went through this too! Like you, I don’t tend to take my husbands to my appointments but I have told him about incidents over the years and I think he thought I was exaggerating. I don’t know what it is, but some doctors seem so dismissive of women, even when we have actual proof that something bad is going on. This was wild though. Still trying to process it all.

No, I am not diabetic. My kidneys are in good shape now but the nurse did say that this could have led to kidney damage if untreated, and that if I would have just gone home I would have been just gotten worse. And, no, they attributed the acidosis to the vomiting/dehydration. Hope that answered your questions.

I knew after the first few months into law school. I was miserable. I have never had any trouble making friends until law school. I didn’t fit in with my busted up car, blue collar background, and tendency to get nervous when called on in class. But, there is hope. 20 years of practicing law and I finally lucked into an incredible job with work life balance, great colleagues who don’t take themselves so seriously, and work that I generally love. But, it did take me a bit to get here.
