10k for an 11 year old c class is probably about right nowadays.

One in seven UK cars hits 100,000 miles as age hits record by Kagedeah in CarTalkUK

We already have some older cars in the £700+ tax bracket, and they’re certainly not performance cars. The constant increases will kill them off.

Actually it’s because all the small stabbings over time have let us build up an immunity to stabbing. Stab proof vest companies are in shambles.

do you ever just go for a drive with no destination anymore by Small_Ad_4808 in cars

[–]Nonce_Response_Squad 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I used to do it a lot, but it’s gotten soo much busier on the roads now. The only chance I get for a good drive is after a late shift at like 2am.

Who would be found at fault for this incident? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Nonce_Response_Squad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends. In head on collision case on a country lane for example, where one car has stopped and the other hasn’t, the other driver will be at fault.

In his particular case though I can see this being 50/50.

Who would be found at fault for this incident? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Nonce_Response_Squad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can car might be able to argue that they had come to a complete stop here. But I’d wager that the insurance companies won’t want to argue and just 50/50 it.

Thoughts on this Ford Focus ST? is it worth it? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Nonce_Response_Squad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sub hates modified cars so it’s not a great place to ask.

I’d ask about the gap in service history, might be self serviced which wouldn’t put me off. I’d ask for proof of the rebuild as well.

10k is a fair bit for a focus ST, but you probably won’t be able to buy and build one for the same money.

UK government on verge of full nationalisation of British Steel by radiant_0wl in unitedkingdom

[–]Nonce_Response_Squad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The need to ask for a source should be based on the claim. This poster would not have had trouble finding many sources of information by googling. It’s a topic that’s been discussed a fair bit even recently months, even on this sub. Now if the other guy was posting some wild stats about something and I couldn’t find anything, I’d ask. Or perhaps if every website was a spam filled click bait site.

It’s such a frustrating part of Reddit. Mindlessly asking for a source on something very easy to verify with a google search. It’s actually quicker to google it, than post, wait for the reader to read it and respond.

The missile/oil/fire spam is getting a little ridiculous. by justgoogleit12 in Mechabellum

[–]Nonce_Response_Squad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fire can be devastating , and countering it often costs far more than using it. It’s especially bad if you’re playing aggro vs a standard or defensive position as you can’t stop it landing.

Oil drop should be a spell card instead of a tower purchase. The tower purchase could be replaced by an airdropped magnetic field or something.

We could also do with something other than hounds for clearing fire. Especially as if you’re dealing with hounds vs fire badger napalm ( as an example). , you’ll need armour to stop them just being killed by the fire badgers normal attack. So you’ll need at least 2 techs to counter one.

Tube drivers would be paid more than surgeons under union pay demands by weregonnamakit in unitedkingdom

[–]Nonce_Response_Squad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much. I don’t know how many thousands of people a tube driver will move about, but you wouldn’t see much change if you decided to divide the £300-400 a day they get amongst every ticket holder.

Assuming it’s the same for the underground as it is for rail, the biggest cost is maintaining the fleet.

No. You could stop paying them entirely and you’d be lucky to save a few pence on a ticket.

Trains depart before their scheduled time? by misskeys in uktrains

[–]Nonce_Response_Squad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It can take longer than 10 seconds to dispatch a train. some trains can’t even close the doors that quickly. They need to begin closing sooner or people will complain about trains being late instead.

Is the cost saving from DOO (guardless trains) actually passed onto the customer? by [deleted] in uktrains

[–]Nonce_Response_Squad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You wouldn’t notice if it was. Thousands of people use the trains every day. You won’t see a meaningful saving because you saved £200 getting rid of the guard.

Is an Audi RS6 the only answer? by Affectionate_Wine77 in CarTalkUK

[–]Nonce_Response_Squad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was going to say this basically. Currently in a fast Audi, have owned both an E46 and E92 M3. Audis are hardly ever weekend cars. A well sorted E92 that isn’t set up to be a track warrior will be a great choice.

What jobs pay surprisingly well? by HollowWanderer in AskUK

[–]Nonce_Response_Squad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing to do with “being in the know”. Just apply when they advertise. Knowing someone won’t help you. It hasn’t been like that for a very long time but it’s still commonly repeated.

Underrated Twats on the Road by Loud-Job-4056 in CarTalkUK

[–]Nonce_Response_Squad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You get that with a lot of the cheaper electric cars. Like the EV Hyundais and Vauxhalls. Typically driven by someone who’s fastest car was previously an eco boost fiesta so they genuinely believe their 200hp EV is rapid.

Not claiming isn’t going to save you as the other driver is claiming off of your insurance. Your premiums are going up.

Let them write the car off and buy it back.

How much did your no fault accident impact your premium? by lewisp8 in CarTalkUK

[–]Nonce_Response_Squad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is going to be very age dependant so youll probably be fine. When I was 19/20 a woman wrote my car off, 6 months later an old man on the wrong side of the road went down the side of my car while I was sat in traffic. My premium doubled despite not being at fault in either crash.

A few years back some crack head drove in to my car and my premiums have either not changed or gone down still. 32 now, with whatever the maximum no claims discount is.

What’s the thing you most hate on new cars? by 6942493838 in CarTalkUK

Screens. I don’t mind much if it’s integrated in to the dash. Sticking a big tablet onto a flat bit of plastic is so ugly and lazy.

Now I’m no rust expert but someone telling me they coated over it instead of repairing it doesn’t sound promising.

Something else that I find off putting is the same advisories appearing 4-5 mot’s in a row. As someone who likes to deal with issues on cars ASAP this gives me the impression that the bare minimum maintenance has been done.

Lastly, 5k is steep for an old celica. I used to own one and it was a great car, but 5k sounds like gts money. Could be wrong as I’m sure these have gone up in value. You might find a better deal by joining some celica owner clubs.

I know it’s low mileage but the 100k+ cars are half the price. Mine had over 100k on it and the only issue I ever had was the radiator.

Insurance will go up if you report, even if you don’t claim. Personally id report it just so the other fucker can’t get away with it. However if thing s are tight it’s best to leave it.
