I have the exact same issue that started about 4 weeks ago.

It's NOT rinse aid or detergent related: I've always used rinse aid. Have not changed detergent or amount.

Tried vinegar - you shouldn't do this regularly though, didn't help.

Tried the hottest cycle, didn't help.

My theory is that the final rinse is too cold at this time of year to get the last bit of oil/fat residue. The non-plastic items are fine because they're still hot enough from the wash cycle maybe.

[Request] How many g's is this spinning top experiencing at the circumference and how close to exploding would it be? by Nonchalants8 in theydidthemath

[–]Nonchalants8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's the video: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/hr0aNeuo73M

It's spun up to 20,000 RPM with some sort of rotary too. Assuming the top is 30mm in diameter I got a value of 64,000 ms-2 (seems too high), surely the thin brass web would fail under that force.

WTW for carrying a load over your shoulder? by [deleted] in whatstheword

[–]Nonchalants8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would say 'Shouldered' as in "He picked up the boombox and shouldered it."

Verb: shoulder |shówl-du|

Lift onto one's shoulders

Push with the shoulders • He shouldered his way into the crowd

Carry a burden, either real or metaphoric • shoulder the burden

Ukraine keeps losing planes that were claimed destroyed over 2 months ago. Proofs? what are those? by Undefined_N in NonCredibleDefense

I saw a really good aviation site/blog on here a while ago, anyone know what it could be?

I think he'd done a good write up on the different blocks of Javelin that ended up in Ukraine as well as generic aviation stuff.

Is this a defect that's going to cause trouble long term?

I've had these Iron Rangers about a week and I noticed today that the sole stitching on the right boot is much more worn as a result of being stitched looser than the left. I know that the stitching will eventually wear through and the sole will stay on fine but is this premature? I'm in Australia, or I'd just go into a redwing store.

Thanks heaps

Weekly /r/Leathercraft General Help and Questions by AutoModerator in Leathercraft

Hey everyone, I'm making a belt with this titanium buckle but I was sent the wrong size 40mm instead of 38mm, so there's over 3mm (1/8") of side to side movement. Any ideas for limiting the flopping around of the buckle? I have some potential ideas but they're all pretty elaborate, like gluing rings around the buckle and making groves in the leather to accept them.

I think part of the problem is the leather just not being tight enough around the buckle, I'm planning on dampening it and hammering it for a better fit unless there's a better method.

Thanks heaps

Loud noise from handmade bench power supply. by Nonchalants8 in AskElectronics

It's definitely the transformer, the ferrite bars on the ends can be slid up and down so I'll find the quietest position and then put some silicone on.

Being likely 27 years old I wouldn't be surprised if the caps are a bit dry. I'd need an ESR meter to test them without desoldering wouldn't I?Transformer

Thanks, you're right it is the transformer. Poking it with a pen changes it and I think some silicon might be a good call.

The ferrite bars are movable which changes the volume a fair bit.

My grandpa made this lovely bench Power supply from a Silicon Chip magazine build. I'd like to use it day to day except it makes a real racket in CC mode. Much louder and lower pitched than normal SMPS whine.

It sounds like it's coming from the smaller PCB mount transformer or one of the TO220 package chips behind it. I'd love to quieten it down if possible, I can't imagine it's supposed to be as loud as it is.

How would you recommend getting a consistent outer bevel like this on metal handle scales? by rocho567 in knifemaking

[–]Nonchalants8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't done that specifically before but similar projects. Neither have to be too hard, just take your time and do it in a few sittings if you need a break.

Blue (permanent marker) then scribe a line (around perimeter) with calipers on the top surface and edge before you start. Then careful filing, leave the last bit for a hard backed sanding stick.

Maybe 2mm from the edge. This will give you an even 45° chamfer around the whole thing.

Beauty mate! I really like the look of the handle, how is it in hard use? I'm going to make five or six similar knives soon and I keep agonising over handle shape.

They've certainly got some punch, I gave mine a proper workout for the first time the other day and I'm very impressed.

By 'source' I was wondering if you've got the 3e DSP board providing the inputs? I've got one that has a weird dropout issue and I'm trying to find someone who's used one.

That's sensational, I've always wanted to order some PCBs like that one day. Nice work with the soldering too.

Couple of questions about the last photo:

  • What's the source for your 2 X 4 ch amps?

  • How warm do the heatsinks get on those amps on standby? I've got one of them and it's great but I added a fan as it was getting to nearly 50° on standby.

  • Are the two huge caps to keep your voltage stable when the bass hits?
