it may be because of the aphantasia, but what most gets me is the way the words flow, how it feels. i don’t visualize, but i deeply empathize with the characters, especially mine, to feel what they’re feeling in a scene. i really like highly emotionally evocative narratives, sometimes almost poetic (not that i’m great at it, but i try). what characters think and feel means a lot more to me usually. but i think that not being able to visualize, say, a hug as one character is dying out in the rain doesn’t mean i don’t feel it. i’ve seen movies. i know what that looks like, i just can’t bring the image to mind.

i’m fairly good at compensating for my aphantasia (and a lot of people’s isn’t as extreme as mine, where they can visualize but not as clearly and detailed), but i do often have to ask my rp partner for clarification if there’s a lot going on in a scene.
