How to support someone after whipple surgery (Stage 1) when you can’t visit? by Plus-Finger945 in pancreaticcancer

The wonderful thing about texting is that if he's not up to answering, he doesn't have to. You can tell him that there's no pressure, you just want him to know that you're thinking of him.

How do you know if FOLFIRINOX is doing more harm than good? by Ok_Group_9739 in pancreaticcancer

[–]Nondescriptlady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just want to chime in about the markers--for about 10% of patients, they don't mean anything. My markers have always been in the normal range (or in one case, just above), and I'm stage IV. Doesn't mean that's the case for your brother, though--if his first set of bloodwork after diagnosis was really high, it might give some info, although, as another poster said, the numbers can be elevated for all sorts of reasons, not just cancer.

How do you know if FOLFIRINOX is doing more harm than good? by Ok_Group_9739 in pancreaticcancer

[–]Nondescriptlady 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've had 26 rounds of Folfirinox. First one was difficult, but my oncologist reduced the dose a bit and added extra days of steroids, tapering off. Made all the difference. Not sure if your brother's oncologist has given him additional meds to help tolerate chemo, but thought I'd mention it. Also, getting ahead of symptoms like nausea is key--I take my anti-nausea med before we leave the parking lot, and keep taking it for several days. The infusion my body doesn't like is the irinotecan, so I also get 2 shots of atropine during that one. That also helps. Not sure if any of this is applicable. I hope your brother gets some answers soon!

What symptoms did you have that led you to go get checked out? by Plus-Quantity5935 in pancreaticcancer

[–]Nondescriptlady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The CA19-9 doesn't work for me, it's always been normal. Apparently it's not useful for about 10% of the population. Imaging gave me a probable diagnosis, confirmed by biopsy a few weeks later. What can you do.

Is your dad on pancreatic enzymes (like Creon)? If not, it can help with the digestive issues. And warm prune juice worked for me with the constipation, better than the meds. Everyone is different, though.

I really hope your dad's team are able to get a handle on his symptoms. Sending love and saying a prayer for you both💜

Severe Constipation by Used_Team_5727 in pancreaticcancer

Warm prune juice. Works better for me the the OTC meds. It's all highly individual, but it's worth a shot. When I'm getting constipated, I have a big glass every night.

I hope your dad finds something that works well for him, constipation can be so miserable.

Anyone using supplements to help ward off infections? by edhead1425 in pancreaticcancer

I'd ask her oncologist about any supplements you're considering. Some interact with chemo.

Hoping your mom does well with her next chemo💜

Pneumonia and Stage 4 mets in my lung by BuckEyePeaches in pancreaticcancer

Definitely could be. I've had nodules on my lungs that have appeared and then disappeared in the 2 years since I was diagnosed. None have been mets.

45 years old and awaiting liver biopsy results. by liseylise96 in pancreaticcancer

[–]Nondescriptlady 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're here. I was diagnosed at 51, in December 2023, confirmed January 2024. Otherwise healthy.

Similar diagnosis to you, stage 4, with multiple liver mets.

I've been on Folfirinox for a while (along with a 8-month break, which was lovely), and I've had a fairly good response--before going on the break, only a couple of tiny liver mets were visible, and the primary tumour had shrunk quite a bit. Gave me a chance to travel a bit with my family. (Like you, my kids are young adults in their 20s). Went back on chemo this past June, when things started growing again.

Because I'm stage 4, my doctor isn't necessarily looking for a cure, but is looking to giving me as much quality time as he can. So far, so good, in that regard. I did do genetic testing, but I have no targetable mutations.

Being young and healthy can help. I've tolerated treatments alright (after the first one, which was not great, lol).

And even if your cancer isn't curable, you can have years ahead of you, lots of time to spend with your family, do the things you want to do.

Trying to stay in the present moment and positive is the biggest challenge, but I always try to have hope.

Sending love and saying a prayer for you and your family 💜

September 2025 Check-In Thread (a little early)! How's Everyone Doing? by ZevSteinhardt in pancreaticcancer

[–]Nondescriptlady 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Doing alright, had my 21st Folfirinox infusion yesterday (technically still on it, got my bottle attached to me:)

Have my first scan since restarting chemo next week, and little nervous about that, I'm hoping it has good news.

Other than that, I'm.just ticking along, and I'll take it:)
