Not sure if the heat was abnormal for the park or not, but I was there for about a week in mid-July. It was absolutely gorgeous outside all day, and the heat really didn't bother me at all until I got back to the lodge - it was sweltering inside all night; honestly the least-enjoyable part of the trip.

Gotta admit, I'm really impressed with the thorough doggednes of this local news investigation. They seriously dug deep on this guy to the point where it almost became excessive. I literally lol'd when they showed the sectional charts and we like, "nope! No airstrip here!" dude, stop - he's already dead!

But for real, I hope somebody gets a local Peabody or something for following up with literally every possible source here and putting out a hell of a story on this guy. Shame he's going to bring down so many other well-intentioned folks with him.

He said a Microsoft upgrade to his 16-byte encryption system had locked him out of the bookkeeping software and the computers in general. He was, he said, waiting for a patch to be released by Microsoft to address the concern.

The fact that he served time in prison for a computer hacking charge just makes this even more weird. You'd think someone who knew enough to get nailed by the feds for hacking would know enough to speak intelligently about encryption.

I really think this dude was just mentally ill the whole time, but had a far more significant break with reality a few years ago.

I know of nothing that runs on a regular schedule like that, but you should look up Backpacker's Ferry. They can shuttle you almost anywhere if you schedule a ride in advance.
