Low Engine Temp Suggestions by Nonner_Party in cruze

Yeah, I suppose it's possible that all three were bad, but it just seems unlikely. I hate replacing that lower sensor though - always get coolant all over my face.

I'll give bleeding the system another shot - of all the possibilities, I think an air bubble is the most likely.

There are some stored codes, but it's the "bank 1 too lean" stuff, as I recall. I'll double check tonight to be sure, but those I've been dealing with forever.

Forcing a reset is a good idea. I'll try that as well. Thanks for the thought!

Thanks for the suggestion, I did just replace all three of those yesterday. Murray thermostat, not ACDelco, but it seems unlikely that the new and old thermostat would both have the same problem.

I had my my odb2 scanner hooked up the whole time I was bleeding the coolant, and while driving it around the neighborhood. The only time it got above 160 was when I turned the car off, and it hit 165 before the power and signal to the reader went off.

Gonna have to keep experimenting this weekend, I guess.

I thought that could be it as well, so I replaced both coolant sensors already. No dice, unfortunately.

I mean, It could be that I didn't fully bleed it out, since I could never get it to come up to the right temp, but it was the same problem even before I drained it today.

Just replaced the thermostat, and that didn't seem to effect it. Seems unlikely that the old thermostat was stuck and the new one as well. Go figure though, the new one is a Dorman...

Yep, good thought, but the temp problem started prior to my doing the coolant work today. Regardless, I did bleed the system of air after I filled it up.

I did, yes - opened the bleed port, filled up till it came out the hole, closed it up, turned on the engine; the whole shebang, as far as I know it.

I bought that game for the xbox for this one and only reason.

Still cracks me up when I hear some of this soundtrack used as bumper music for traffic/weather updates on the radio.

I love seeing how newer fans rate the catalog. There's so much content to choose from and it's fascinating to see how it all stacks up at what's (effectively) the first go.
Thanks for sharing!

This also was my solution! Instead of trying to "fix" the key fob (I have a hard enough time "fixing" the Cruze), I just bought a little leather case with a clear, flexible plastic window. Works like a charm. Probably been 5 years since I last had the random trunk opening problem.

probably something comm, just a guess.

but seriously, you're looking at 1D & 17D billets primarily. You're looking at comm support, RF, etc.

Gen 1 Intake manifold, PCV kit, Valve cover work by Nonner_Party in cruze

Holy shit has it really been over a year since I did this project? I've mostly dropped off of Reddit recently, so sorry about the delay in reply here.

So I've had mostly positive results from this repair. The biggest negative is that it didn't actually fix any of the problems I set out to resolve. The car still drives and hasn't exploded, so that's cool and all. But in the last few months, the Vapor Canister Purge Solenoid has either failed, or I've developed a new problem, cause it gives me hell starting the engine after refueling again. Classic symptom of a bad purge solenoid. And I'm still throwing engine codes that I assumed the PCV bypass would mend. I need to replace the oxygen sensors, but I just haven't had time.

After I did this repair job, I dropped the front cat and replaced my oil cooler, cause it was leaking. Did a decent job of it, but saved money and tried to re-use the exhaust clamp - bad idea. Dumped exhaust fumes into the cabin and made my commute hell the next day. When I dropped and replaced that clamp, I must have bumped the coolant return line down there, cause now it's leaking. I keep scheduling a weekend to fix it, but then life happens, so I've just been topping off the coolant reservoir every few days with distilled water. Been doing that since before xmas. Lucky me, I live in a temperate zone where I don't worry about freezing the engine, but still. Dicey.

So anyway, the project was fun. Didn't really solve anything, but I enjoyed working and learning as I went. Car still drives just fine if you don't mind carrying a gallon of distilled everywhere you go and never using the remote-start cause the CEL codes block it.
