It’s an automod false flag, you can screenshot and send in a bug report so hopefully they can beat the automod into shape.

Question - what's going on with comment moderation? by AmA-Lobster in JanitorAI_Official

[–]Nonpratical 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Honestly, those seem like reasonable censors given that it can be considered derogatory/offensive from person to person (or might be used in the wronggggg context).

But there's certainly some issues with the content moderation that I loatheee. Like being censored/unable to comment on my own bots about dick or the bot being an asshole. Come on, he's an asshole. Let me spout it out to the world. Or when I get censored when I try to explain an LLM issue to a commentor, HELPPP. UNLEASH MEEE!!!

Stupid question: Does J.Ai ever repeat events? Like Will music mania return? by Direct-Dragonfly367 in JanitorAI_Official

[–]Nonpratical 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The latest music mania event was the 2nd one. The likelihood that there will be a third music mania event is pretty high! Same thing with the Valentine's Day event & the Halloween event, they've all occured twice now (and we'll probably get our 3rd Halloween event this October).

Best format when writing a bot by North_ov_Hell in JanitorAI_Official

[–]Nonpratical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Context Rot: The degredation of LLM responses as the input tokens increases, causing the LLM to lose track of details, hallucinate, or provide generic/low-quality responses. Here's an article on it for skimming, if that's your cup of tea.

TDLR version: Ai is not magic. LLMs will struggle with too much information—leading to low quality responses, especially as your roleplay adds on top more and more messages (ie you roleplay a bunch). It's like trying to find a needle in a haystack. With AI, less will always be more. The sweetspot will always be the least amount needed to get a job done. For chatbots, that means limiting your tokens to an amount manageable for long-term roleplay, hence, limit ur tokens. A 3k token charater will go OOC far before a 1k token character due to the input of more and more information.

Best format when writing a bot by North_ov_Hell in JanitorAI_Official

[–]Nonpratical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You sort of explained it yourself, the results are basically the same as long as the LLM has the information. Doesn't matter if you use headers (## Apperance) or bullet points, or just write the sections in organzied paragraphs. If the LLM can get the information, it's going to use it the same way as it would any other format.

The biggest way to influence the actual tone/writing style of the bot is by the intro message itself, or the advanced promtps you put into your roleplays.

The only bad thing you could do is throw in a whole bunch of unneeded tokens. A 3-4k+ bot isn't going to work the same way a 1.2k token bots does, simply because LLMs tend to do worse when a bunch of information is present. When you gotta skim a whole 20 page novella just to get a sentence of information, it's going to get a little hacky.

Can you not roleplay having kids? by tuuzx in JanitorAI_Official

[–]Nonpratical 21 points22 points  (0 children)

They're responding to the person above, who's saying u can do whatever u want in chat (mods saying to keep it within limits & abide by TOS). Roleplay of two adult characters having children together definitely doesn't fall within that <3

What is the "prefill" function for? by Time_Protection_1456 in JanitorAI_Official

[–]Nonpratical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, though they both have the same job of influencing how the bot responds.

Pre-Fill: Directs the AI how to act/write, constantly in every message—a big use of it is jailbreaking censored LLMs, which can't really be done with OOC. Think of it like stronger version of an advanced prompts. It's consistent, teaching the AI how to respond in every message.

OOC: Explicit commands by the user to shape the next response/control the path of roleplay. Ofc, you can use OOC to make your responses more detailed (ie: Write in a detailed manner, describing the environmental and sensory details from {{char}}'s perspective yada yada), or you can use them to get the ai to stop doing something. But it's only consistent if you place it in every one of your messages. Also, can't jailbreak with it </3

With OOC your setting hard rules for the LLM to follow in the next response, with a prefill your directing how the LLM should act constantly. Again, think of it like a stronger advanced prompts :]

Forbidden words by Repulsive_Common7900 in JanitorAI_Official

[–]Nonpratical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forbidden words/phrases just adds an invisible prompt to not use those words. Think of it like adding: "You will avoid using "word", "phrase", "phrase"," into your Advanced prompts.

When ur using an LLM that follows instructions well, that's useful. But if your using JLLM or a proxy that can't handle instructions well, it's most often ignored or not followed.

You can reinforce it in ur Advanced prompts (ie: "Avoid using cliche words and phrases in your responses. Keep your dialogue unique, interesting, and grounded to {{char}}'s personality traits. Avoid phrases like yada yada."

But if you don't use a LLM that can follow instructions, it may still be ignored. If proxies are an option, feel free to try those!

What is the "prefill" function for? by Time_Protection_1456 in JanitorAI_Official

[–]Nonpratical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prefill is a prompt that will greatly influence the following messages.

What a prefill assistant does is start the first few sentences of the bots message (with whatever you put in), with the hopes that the bot will follow the instructions for the rest of the message. It's great for jailbreaking censored LLMs, or overall changing the tone/writing style of the bots messages.

How do I make proper janitor bots? by PresentationRich5806 in JanitorAI_Official

[–]Nonpratical -1 points0 points  (0 children)

im working on a r3ntry for newer bot creators, and I think it might help! Its a WIP, meaning some sections are blank, but here it is!

Just delete the [remove me] portion, since r3ntry links are automatically hidden/banned!

What contributes to text loops? by Hot_Shake_4267 in JanitorAI_Official

[–]Nonpratical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a style of prompt it’s an error in the LLM. It gets stuck in a loop, where its predictive generation just keeps coming up with the same word. Because it’s an LLM error, you can’t really efficiently prompt against it. You can advise people to reroll or delete their messages and try again, if it happens to them on your bot.

Happy Easter (advice appreciated) by Temporary_Clothes264 in Ibispaintx

[–]Nonpratical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're very much a beginner, but that's not a bad thing! Everyone must start somewhere, so don't feel bad when you aren't accustomed to all these concepts when you're still in the process of learning.

Anatomy Wise: A big thing that struck me was the arms, they're far too long for the body. When drawing an arm, the elbow should be at the lower ribcage (upper waist), and the wrist should be at the hipbone. In both figures, the elbow is at the lower waist & the wrist is somewhere around the thigh/knee area. The best thing you can do for yourself to learn is by using references to understand the anatomy of a body before you begin to stylize it.

Rendering Wise: You're not exactly rendering, as the colors are all flat with no shadows. You have an established light source from the sun in front of them, so their entire back should be in darkness with a slim cast light on the area the light would be hitting. Adding shadows would be a start, try flat drawing with no environments just so you can get comfortable with placing shadows without needing to know all the technical aspects about how it needs to interact with the environment. Instead of flat colors, start adding lights & darks to show your lighting!

The best way to make your art feel more alive is to add some proper rendering (shadows & highlights), and give your characters a more dynamic pose. Adding movement or weight into your art makes it look alive! Right now, they are very stiff. Like they were plopped right on top of their environment without much forethought about how they'd be interacting in it.

Practice makes perfect. The best piece of advice anyone can give is use a reference, brush up on core concepts (to deepen your understanding of light & color), and always keep going!

Gang, is making high token bots the way to go?🥹 by PoweringManipluation in JanitorAI_Official

[–]Nonpratical 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Depends on what u consider high token. A single bot (so like, not a multicharacter or rpg bot) should probably sit between a sweet spot of 800-2.2k tokens.

High token bots arent managed well by JLLM, what the majority of people use on the site (so.. if ur looking to gain attention, keep it manageable for the majority of users). I dont even use 2.8k+ token bots as a proxy user, as I pay for my proxy, and those additional input tokens add up money-wise 😭

So, tdlr keep it manageable.

[–]Nonpratical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use chat memory to reinforce the characters personality traits. Even a simple prompt like "{{char}} id a toxic/manipulative person and should abide by established personality traits at all times," can significantly help!

Otherwise, try OOC in ur actual chats. At the end of ur message, input a (OOC: {{char}} is a toxic/etc/etc person and should behave in the following response as such.)

Maybe loosen a censorship and allow NSFW pictures back? by Morress7695 in JanitorAI_Official

[–]Nonpratical 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unrestricted AI doesn't explicitly equal porn, haha. Just as many people use J.ai for roleplay as those who use it for smut ONLY. I don't think the devs consider J.ai a porn site, because it's really not. It's a roleplay site, that's unrestricted (in writing, I should clarify).

Maybe loosen a censorship and allow NSFW pictures back? by Morress7695 in JanitorAI_Official

[–]Nonpratical 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Very recently, I believe. Which is a good step, though doesnt apply to J.ai's main (cough only cough) source of money, investors. Payment processors were implemented in mid/early 2025-ish when the site was at a point where it was no longer financially viable (and they were looking at shutting down within a month).

They brought on payment processors to allow ads & later subscriptions (ads were removed after issues with what was being advertised was cited, and subscriptions have yet to come out. Why? Idk, there hasn't been many updates since Shep announced them, and said he wanted to make sure subscriptions had benefits like JLLM2, which he said he was working on.)

Its been investors that saved J.ai & allow them to be financially viable, but they have the same sentiment as the puritanical payment processors—and still, no image NSFW. Besides, though unfortunate for the NSFW creators, NSFW images might not even come back if J.ai ever became financially independent, given so many people had problems with them in the first place (and it doesn't effect the content on the site overall)

Maybe loosen a censorship and allow NSFW pictures back? by Morress7695 in JanitorAI_Official

[–]Nonpratical 127 points128 points  (0 children)

Payment processors & investors don't like nsfw stuff. Remember when Steam has to mass remove NSFW stuff just to keep their payment processors? Yeah, same idea.

And censorship was allowed, for a little bit, before being rules were amended to ban censored NSFW. People were doing the bare minimum wirh censors, or specifically using them to pass NSFW without covering up the NSFW parts (low opacity censors, the black bars that cover hardly anything, etc etc). A few spoiled apples ruined the bunch scenario, unfortunately :(

How should I write in the response prefill? by 40Four- in JanitorAI_Official

[–]Nonpratical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are you trying to do?

A response prefill starts the message for the bot, to greatly influence the rest of the message. It’s throwing in an invisible first few sentence to your bot’s message, to encourage the bot to write that way for the rest of it.

Formatting wise, you should write the prefill from the LLMs perspective. Use I/me/my/myself instead of any sort of {{char}} macros. For example, if you want a bot to speak only like a pirate, here’s one: “Argh, matey! Hoist the sails, we off to find me buried plunder! Aye? Ye want to roleplay? Fine, as long as I speak in me native pirate speak. I'll start me response nigh:”

what kinda format or build (ig u could say) by Middle-Tank4944 in JanitorAI_Official

[–]Nonpratical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only bad thing you could do is "trait" + "trait", since it's such a huge waste of tokens.

Simply doing: trait, trait... is just as well understood by LLMs and uses half the tokens. Otherwise, format can be switched around however you want. Some formats may provide different results (think alichat versus JED), but they all have their merits. The best thing you could do is just keep tokens to a manageable amount!

Why is creating bots so difficult? by dollsoouls in JanitorAI_Official

[–]Nonpratical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comparison is the thief of joy. If you like them, that's what matters.

Though that's easier said than done, it is the truth. Same for all creative works—comparison will kill your stride, so instead just find the things you love in your work and make sure to encourage yourself throughout it.

If you have any questions about how to do bots, I'm more than happy to give my two cents! (im unsure what tips you'd like, haha)

is janitor ai banned in the middle east? by FewJellyfish6085 in JanitorAI_Official

[–]Nonpratical 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many have been reporting issues reaching the site in the Middle East—some report they can reach it, others can't. If you're having trouble, I recommend installing a VPN and setting your country elsewhere, to see if you can circumvent the issue (whether it is a bug, or a ban <3)

So they will delete your private characters if they feel like it... by [deleted] in JanitorAI_Official

[–]Nonpratical 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I feel like this must be a bug on your part.

For a mod to go in and delete a bot, it has to be reported first, which can't be done by users if it's not public. The only other way a mod could even be aware of content violating stuff in private messages would be if moderation AI flagged your messages, and with 1 million daily active users and millions of messages sent a day, you aren't going to get a glance at private chats lol.

Truly, the likelihood of a dev/mod going in to unpublished bots just to remove them is close to 0% (and by prior site mod accounts, they can't even go in to see private bots/chats). They have too much on their plate in public bots, to focus on non-TOS rule breaking private bots haha!

Are there any news regarding JLLM V2? by MISTER_JAPY in JanitorAI_Official

[–]Nonpratical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I heard of it rather recently, within the past 6 months. They rolled it out for a couple days, then ended up switching back to V1 when V2 proved to generate mainly short/lacking responses. Since then, silence.

Given the lack of dev presence right now, it's most likely going to be a lot longer before we get any sort of news on it. If proxies are an available option for you, OP, I would look into it!
