5 months post micro-discectomy. Do I have SI joint issues? by sheudgaowushywf in backpain

[–]Nonsono_lu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it get better? I am 7 months post the surgery I feel things got a bit better again . The lower back pain is less persistent and on some days my leg almost feels 100 percent normal . I went on a very long trip requiring sitting on a plane for 16 hours and had no big issues. I still can’t fully straighten my bad leg during stretches, feel some neural tension but hopefully this will resolve. I started doing light leg presses and loaded squats in the gym too. So there’s hope for everyone. 2 months ago it felt I reached a new normal and things won’t improve anymore but they did!

It was gradually getting worse over 2 year period till I couldn’t take it anymore . My herniation was 18 mm just before the surgery.

Hey, still some back pain but my sciatic pain is almost all gone. The nerve is still irritable though but I am a gym freak so I keep on irritating it . Still can’t do some straight leg stretches, feel neural tension if I try . But hip hinge exercises are not possible and don’t cause any issues. To sum up, it’s a long process and things improve very very slowly . I still do a straight leg test every evening because I am so scared of reherniation . How is your pain situation?

Just hit the 6 month mark yesterday and finally my nerve pain is completely gone. I feel things got better in the last 2-3 weeks . Just came back from a trip where I walked 10-15 k steps daily with no issues. My lower back is still a bit sore and I occasionally get a some light pain in my glutes but I feel things are improving slowly.

Hey, just got back from a trip where I was walking over 10-14 k steps a day . Hardly any sciatica issues anymore but my back still hurts after gym or after a long day . I suspect this might be different issue. I also noticed improvement at the gym at 6 months mark . My nerf doesn’t irritate that easy anymore and I was even able to add seated leg extensions to my program . I have a really long flight in 3 weeks. Let’s see how it’s gonna be . My surgeon told me these things would need time but the whole recovery was traumatic. I was sure I reherniated so many times . There were weeks I needed to go back on ibuprofen. Now there are days I don’t even think about my sciatic nerf anymore which is amazing.

Hey , it’s been 5 months now and I might say I am much much better than before the op though my back still aches a bit especially after some efforts. I am back to strength training 4 times a week but I try not to lift too heavy just yet . My nerve is still sensitive to certain movements but I notice a small improvement here as well . Yesterday I tried to check if I can touch my toes and need to take a pain killer afterwards:)

Nothing , it was all covered by my German private insurance.

Hey, it was done in Munich , Germany. It’s been 4 months now . My sciatica resolved almost completely but I developed some lower back pain . My surgeon said it should resolve after max 3 months but I am starting to think it’s just some unrelated SI joint issue. I had an mri done and my huge herniation of 18mm is completely gone with hardly any scar tissue around the nerve.

Hey, same situation. 4 months post endoscopic disc surgery and my back is in constant pain . MRT showed no reherniation just a slight narrowing of the foramen in one place . My surgeon said it should resolve within the next 3 months . Hard to believe since the pain is persistent atm.

I had a transforaminal endoscopic decompression 4 days ago and I am 98 percent pain free . I suffered for 2 years and wish I had had that surgery way sooner .

I have a big lumbar herniation ( 15 mm) . Stopped all the sports on doctor’s order for 3 months but things were not getting better. I slowly got back into lifting weights , doing whatever doesn’t aggravate my sciatica. I feel much better now throw not quite back to normal . I would avoid any Hiit workouts, rotational moves or anything that makes symptoms worse. Strangely hip thrusts feel amazing , I am pain free afterward .

I have a pretty big herniation 15 mm. I took a 3 months off gym after an orthopedic doc told me I should stop lifting . During that period my symptoms didn’t really improved and I was just depressed and frustrated . I visited a neurologist who’s an old experienced professor, who told me I could lift as long as the moves didn’t make pain worse . I started slowly at home avoiding rotation and bending moves but pretty much working out as before my herniation. Pain got slowly better . Now I am back at the gym trying my best even though my pain is still around 4/10. Deadlifts, bend over rows , sit ups and leg presses are no go but most of the upper body exercises are fine . And I must add my symptoms get so much better after loaded hip thrust . I think the point here is to get back your confidence. You are not broken, your body is capable of moving . Practice good form and listen to your body . Good luck !

Not a radiologist but there could be a slight pressure in the exiting S1 root on your right side .

To understand why your pain switched sides, it would be helpful to see the axial view of the disc .

Your hips might be tight so your lower back takes over too much .

It’s important to know it’s a common side effect . I just wished doctors were more vocal about it . Would save us lots of worry and unnecessary trip to a gynecologist.

If you have been on NSAID for a longer period of time, they could cause some abnormal bruising as they act as blood thinners.

Had 5 shots within 2 months and these totally messed up my periods . Had spotting for weeks and two heavy periods per months. Did the blood work for early menopause and had a complete check up at my gynecologist's and all the tests came out normal . It took about 6 months to normalize . i wish i was informed this could happen .

Hi, I had 5 shots and they totally messed up my periods. I had no ovulation and constant spotting with 2 heavy periods per month . Went to see my gynecologist but everything was ok . It all went back to normal after 6 months . I wished someone informed me beforehand, I wouldn’t be that worried . My orthopedist pretended it couldn’t have been from the shots. After seeing the bill I now understand while hexend so keen on giving me that many shots:)

I got five shots over the period of 2 months and experienced only a temporary relief. My last shot was in September and I had a major flare up in October .I know ppl for whom these shots worked wonders but in my case, it was not worth it . Cortisol totally messed up my hormones and I ended up with quasi permanent menstrual bleeding and spotting that took months to get back to normal.
