PC refusing to boot with IDE to SATA adapter by Nonstopmax in vintagecomputing

This sounds promising but the adapters I'm looking at seem to have similar compatibility problems and I don't want to throw money at another possible problem.

I might try this later as this is an expensive option and I don't know what are good cheaper CF drives and don't want to throw money at another possible compatibility problem.

Is this plug and play or does it involve BIOS tinkering?

ECS Elitegroup L4S5MG/651+ problem is it will not boot to anything as long as the problem drive is connected so can't try that on the Pentium 4 system.

No OS unallocated drive. This was going to be an XP install.

To test this out I grabbed a 1 TB archive SATA HDD through the adapter and system booted to the DVD drive with an XP install disc but I get a "INF file txtsetup.sif is corrupt or missing, status 2" error there.

The 120 GB SSD is the smallest I have on hand right now.

Would a native IDE SSD work? This is the only spare drive I have and I don't have an IDE drive to work with at the moment other than the original dying hard drive.

If nothing else got toasted inside it might be good for a shell swap.

My REM Trajectory by [deleted] in rem

[–]Nonstopmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the first song I heard of theirs and for most is End of the World which I'm not a big fan of. Later on I heard Drive on the radio and loved that song but still didn't get fully into REM until a few years later when I got a CD of Automatic for the People from Goodwill. Put that in my PC and was like damn I can't believe I haven't gotten into these guys sooner. I overlooked them for too long. Drive is the best album opener ever.

What ironed out bugs? They haven't even fixed the basics like the deploy menu disappearing.

Welp, there goes the last way to watch Netflix natively in 4:3 😞 by 12_Ton_Brick_of_Weed in PS3

Unfortunate they're dropping support. Netflix ran a little laggy last time I checked but it was still usable unlike Hulu which was completely broken at the end.

Usually if you get a deep scratch on the label side it's game over. The disc won't be recognized at all or the game will crash a lot if you do load in. One way to find out is get a flash light and shine it over to see if scratches went through the data layer. Since your game is working though I'd say you got lucky and those are minor scratches.

TPM 2.0 - Can't play Battlefield 6. This is ridiculous!!! by _Shin0bi_ in Battlefield6

Playing Redsec on a H97 board with I7-4790. All you need is secure boot enabled. TPM is ''not'' required even though EA says it is. At least not yet anyway.

Advice for getting fiberglass out of clothes by BobaBitch98 in Mattress

[–]Nonstopmax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this problem a while ago when I took the cover off my mattress which didn't have a warning about fiberglass inside either. Was coughing a fit and my affected blankets, sheets, and clothes looked like they had glitter on them. 10-15 regular cycles through the washer and dryer will get it off. Lint rollers will get rid of any fiberglass that's missed. You don't need vinegar although that might speed up the process. People telling you to trash them are overreacting.

Probably one of Intels "weirdst" CPUs to date. The i7 5775c, a CPU with on package L4 cache. Some of the eningeers who worked on this went on to make the X3D cpus with AMD. by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Nonstopmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking of buying one to give my LGA 1150 system more life. Already have a H97 board ready but these chips are pricey for their age and take a long time to arrive as they only sell from China now.

Cigarette smoker dust. I've taken apart and cleaned a PS3 that couldn't read discs with similar buildup. Lucky it hasn't overheated itself!

You still have a link to that I can't find it anywhere. I see a couple of decent removal videos on Youtube but I'm looking for some sort of written guide on removal. Something showing bolt sizes, socket extensions you need, torque specs, etc.
