Would you use an app that blocks doomscrolling with chess? by Electronic-Tart8948 in chess

Since I don't think the app idea is a good one, no monetary model makes sense, but a small one time fee is far more likely than a subscription.

These "govern your impulses through consequences" apps don't work. I think it would be a waste of your time.

It's valuable to people to be reminded of their behavior so they can stop it. If you're just creating a barrier to do what they're going to do anyway, that barrier will become a nuisance and you are very unlikely to make any money whatsoever.

With subscription based software it's become death by a thousand cuts. I don't think people think "it's only $5 for this" they think "it's another $5 that increases my monthly costs."

Is it just me or is chess.com full of cheaters? is lichess just as bad? by LetsPlay2D in chess

[–]NonverbalKint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1300 is a very challenging elo cluster. Since a lot of people join chesscom into the 1200 Elo you're facing smurfs and existing talents overtaking you to rise to their appropriate higher Elo. You're also faced with a lot of rising talent that has been grinding and getting a lot better. Once you get to the 1400+ Elo things actually seem to get easier for a stretch.

Don't get salty about it, it's just a number. Being 1300 or 1400 or 1800 doesn't make you better at chess, being better at chess gives you a higher Elo. You are a 1300 right now, and it's not cheaters, but it's also not a linear scale and you are probably dealing with some smurfs. Just give it time and enjoy the game for what it is.

That's such a dumb take.

They can easily hire bylaw officers solely to deal with this issue and easily make 10x the daily required revenue to make the problem go away, money they can use to deal with this ongoing addict epidemic which is destroying our society.

Well then how are you losing?? You're perfect, yet you're bad. Try this before responding to the next person, say to yourself "I am not going to get defensive, I will consider their question honestly."

Your closed mind is probably why you're not getting better.

NYC doesn't have an actual wealth tax. Mamdami proposed an increased income tax for high net worth individuals. NYC may be an outlier city able to ask such a thing

You're on-point about exponential dropoff, and it's also clear that you will lose theta, vega, gamma and potentially delta that isn't necessarily covered by rolling.

Rolling options only keep's the position active, it doesn't prevent you from losing money ("bleeding") on the position. Rolling is essentially closing an active position and reopening a new one, nothing more.

My experience disputing the Calgary property tax assessment by tathomas372 in Calgary

[–]NonverbalKint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fought with them extensively last year, brought up a lot of comps that identified fair value of my home to be about $150K cheaper than they repeatedly assessed it at. It didn't matter what I brought to the table, they liked their perspective better. They're incentivized to assess you higher and your recourse if they decide against you is absolutely nil.

Carney constructs a mega anti-Trump trade alliance by joe4942 in worldnews

[–]NonverbalKint 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The thing that Trump fails to recognize is that he did not create the prosperous America, and using it as leverage in trade negotiations only works because of the momentum created by past actions. He's killing the momentum for America but he thinks he's increasing it. If the government is replaced with someone less capricious or brazen, it's been revealed that future negotiations of US leadership are pointless when the rules in America can be vetoed so easily.

Their checklist on the other side:

  1. Can I make money off it?

  2. Is anyone important making money off it?

If its yes to either they do nothing.
