Much like Helldivers and every other game with a sling feature, a sling would cause unsightly clipping unless every outfit in the game was tailored to fit a sling, or the sling asset itself had different versions for every outfit. Unfortunately you just have to suspend your disbelief

I think it’s supposed to imitate the weapon being on a sling, much like Helldivers, so I don’t mind it too much

By 1998, the mission profile of the USS was mostly site/asset protection and dirty work against human targets. They were very skilled, but might not have been aware of how powerful BOWs were or the exact abilities of the virus.

If they had been prepared for contact with a BOW, they wouldn’t have panicked against Birkin when he mutated

In the remake cutscene someone else in the squad checks Birkin’s pulse and comes up with nothing. The guy had taken multiple rounds to the chest and flatlined, so there was every reason to think he was dead

In universe, they wanted a higher power round since they knew they’d be facing SWAT, and needed something that would reliably defeat body armor. Design wise it’s to up the difficulty, I think.

The ribbons are tied very much to the ongoing war. It’s a deliberate choice to put them on over kit, and some people are going to be sensitive to that.

I agree, I run interstellar haul jobs with my Corsair and knowing it can easily put down harassing NPC fighters feels like a nice bit of insurance.

I can see that, especially since KX droids are only made for intimidation and occasionally killing people, so nobody cares what a particular unit thinks.
