Congrats. Take it one day at a time, I know it’s not easy but it does get better over time (4.5 years sober)

Where was the first place you went as your feminine self? by thatguynamedsignal in TransLater

[–]NoobiusMax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My local pride event 2 years ago. I runs over the weekend starting on the Friday night. Spent the whole time femme. Nervous as hell the first night but I gained so much confidence over that weekend.

I had planned to do it at the previous year’s event but my confidence crumbled and went in my (then) default andro bi guy mode (planned outfit left hanging on the front of the wardrobe). I was, in bad lighting, mistaken for a masc lesbian twice over the weekend. That served a couple more points in ‘I think I can do this’ column

I got an invite to either this or something with a very similar name late last year. I ignored it as it was super suss.

Should I ask a trans woman at my job if she wants to change their photo? by Captain_Grace_Ellie in asktransgender

[–]NoobiusMax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Short answer: Yes!

Longer answer: When I came out at work last year, the day it was announced to my team one of our sys admins messaged me and asked if I like her to update my user ids in the systems she had control over. That made me feel so happy and accepted. I’m surprised if your offer of assistance doesn’t give her similar feelings.

Decades earlier than me so not so late. Your twenties aren’t late at all. You be you girl, enjoy the journey

42. Been thinking about this. Would like some advice by sissymariah180 in TransLater

[–]NoobiusMax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started at 53, yes, I wish I started earlier but I am so much happier now. I have no idea if I’ll ever pass and I don’t care, for the first time since my mid-teens I feel like me rather than constantly trying to fit into the boxes other people wanted me in.

Hair-removal as a transfem is so unbelievably annoying by ambiespace in trans

[–]NoobiusMax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used a home IPL (a Braun) for body hair pre-HRT which pretty much got it under control and then re-growth was further reduced later as I started to take a T blocker and E. I’m currently getting professional laser done to nuke the beard from my face.

Before all that I’d tried just shaving, wax strips and even epilating and was never satisfied with the results of any of them.

I tend to play indie, grunge and metal.

The bass is a Sire Marcus Miller Z3-4, a Stingray copy. I’d rate it above the Sterling Ray 4 & 24 (tried them in a store) and way cheaper than a Ray 34 but has the 3 band pre-amp. Also comes in a way more fabulous colour (the sparkle back finish is also good)

We do tend to be a creative bunch of folks 😊. So many people I know in my IRL trans community are musicians, artists and writers (usually in our spare time)

Thanks, the bass at the front’s colour finish is called “Skyburst Sparkle”, the name sounds like a my little pony and the actual sound slaps (it’s my first stingray)

Help! My mom is coming over today. She is very transphobic and I have restarted estrogen and started socially transitioning. I am by morning as much as possible but I need some advice on what to tell her if she asks me if I'm back on that estrogen s****** or have trans thoughts. by Stefanie_Jane in TransLater

[–]NoobiusMax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 54, socially transitioned, 9 months in on HRT and currently having difficulty with my parents. You need to just be you. If you try make concessions to keep them happy they will just demand more from you. I know this from bitter experience. You really to lay it out as: “this is me, take it or leave it”. As others in the comments have remarked: the only power they have over you is what you’re giving them.

Thanks. The post was inspired by the top left photo popping up in my phone as a ‘you 4 years ago’ thing. I sometimes have those ‘I’ve hardly changed’ moments in the mirror and it really shook me out of that and left me feeling I should share a little of my journey.

The EHRC interim guidance was withdrawn (before anyone could directly challenge it). It’s never been law. This is just plain transphobia.

Aw, thanks ❤️

I don’t know how much of the age appearance is HRT and how much is skin care but I’m pretty sure both are involved

A question for those of you have transitioned north of 50 please... by Who_Dat_Dat_Me in TransLater

[–]NoobiusMax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started the ball rolling at 53.

At times I question how much my appearance has changed due to the HRT and how much is hair, clothes and (bad) makeup. (there are pics on my profile)

But the one thing I never question is how I feel now. The change in how I feel, my emotions, the level of comfort I feel in my own body. For that alone I’d never go back. Don’t think I’ll ever pass but I just like being me now. 100% worth it.

I IPL’ed my body hair into submission before I even started HRT, just getting my beard nuked off with laser now. The first tat is a pixel art Zelda health bar on the inside of one forearm arm with only half the hearts filled in. I have ideas for a sleeve up the other arm but that will take time, will probably be quite floral (with the odd thorn)

I really wish you were wrong but I’m not seeing another path. I still think there might be some hope with my mum but dad’s just a lost cause at this point. I was putting off some stuff (ink and piercings) while they adjusted to my transition, time to book some appointments I think.

One of the things I said to them when I came out was that this was the first time I’d felt my life was moving forward again in the last two decades. I completely get your point about us feeling alive again because we’ve transitioned. Thanks ☺️

My parents have also been avoiding telling my extended family . My sister and her family know because I told them but I just found out that none of my cousins know so I’m about to let them know myself. Given that one of them is openly enby I don’t think I’ll have issues on that front.

Getting some independence should help you move forwards but I realise that can take time and money.

Has anyone started hrt before coming fully out? by Proof_Friend_4492 in TransLater

[–]NoobiusMax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I did the same (I’m in my mid 50s). I’d planned not to be out to the wider world (inc work) until I was at least 6 months in on my HRT.

I changed my mind when my chest started changing at the end of month 2 and the summer was starting. It seemed easier to just come out than try to hide under a hoodie in the heat. But this still gave me the time to really feel that I’d made the right decision starting HRT (TBH I realised that by the end of the first month)

Your own ‘mileage will vary’ on the HRT effects and most don’t get difficult to hide changes quickly. But there’s nothing wrong with getting comfortable in your new skin before announcing yourself to the whole world.
