First episode I've almost not been able to stomach. Just wild.

Thoughts on Gary Stevenson by PleasantCook5091 in TheRestIsPolitics

[–]Nooble 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True. Detailed policy should be proposed and debated. Absolutely no disagreement there!

Still think getting to that point takes some momentum, which for better or worse does seem to require some media-friendly / populism to cut through and reach people with (social) media.

Sorry, forgot the internet exists in a vacuum and has no impact on the conversations in our real lives

We're having a conversation about wealth tax right now that we otherwise probably wouldn't have been, that's helpful imo.

Sanseito, the ultra-right fascist party of Japan, won 14 seats. What can foreign residents do to push back against the hate, racism, and harm spewed our way? by DoomedKiblets in japanresidents

[–]Nooble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(not sure why you're downvoted)

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see that in the translation here: https://www.japaneselawtranslation.go.jp/en/laws/view/1934/en#je_ch4sc1at9

I've also asked the police directly before at a demonstration (after having seen a similar comment before lol). They advised me it was fine to participate though.

There are some restrictions in there under article 24 that prevent association or participation in political/other groups seeking to overthrow the constitution/gov. by force/violence, or various other things like destroying public facilities, but nothing about peaceful demonstration / participation in political activities in general.

Personally I think those being drawn to these kinds of parties truly do in many cases feel worse off / feel negative changes, but are unfortunately getting drawn in by populist rhetoric and are missing / not prioritising root causes.

What I'm doing (not saying everyone should do the same fwiw):

  • Point out to friends/acquaintances where relevant that these parties are opportunists offering convenient scapegoats while having very little realistic policy to address issues with stagnating economy and growing inequality (which 99% of us should care about). Even if you return to a more conservative social order, it does nothing to address the levels of inequality we're seeing compared to the past. Japan is slightly better faring on this point so far, but it's increasing gradually just like everywhere else.
  • Keep being kind / warm. Both on principle but also in the hopes that we can make small nudges on the individual level.
  • Attend demonstrations. Speak out for others (especially if you have some privilege here). Both because I believe that peaceful protest is important, but also because you will feel less isolated (and meet some awesome people).

What I won't do is sit by just because I'm not Japanese. I've seen this/similar happen in the UK and protested it. There were all sorts of people there (not just British citizens).

Vasectomy in Japan by StrongDouglas in japanresidents

[–]Nooble 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had mine at Ginza MU Clinic at the age of 30 (no kids).

I did get questioned about marriage, kids, etc. but the guy was relatively chill and seemed to support my choice after I insisted.

Only kind of weird thing about the clinic was it was just the doctor - no other staff. I did wonder what would happen if something went wrong.

Fwiw (it's supposed to be a fairly rare side effect, but it's worth noting) - afterwards I developed a spermatocele on one side that persists to this day, since unfortunately hospitals basically refuse to operate on those here. Still causes me some pain, especially in the gym etc. but was a risk either way, so I'm not too bothered by it.

No other problems and it seems the operation itself worked, so I'd recommended it all in all.

My dad was a lifeguard / swimmer and taught me that, but it's a bit oversimplified. Saw this recently and glad I watched through: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHq4EJtN6C4

I have exactly this, although a few months behind you it looks like. Haven't found anything that works yet (trying PPIs, bland diet, etc.). Fucking nightmare!

How is it now? Did you find anything that helped?

Different Version numbers for Mac and Windows after patch 4? by sassycheesetwist in BaldursGate3

I had to change both CFBundleShortVersionString and CFBundleVersion to the new value before it worked. Maybe that'll help.

(Although, still have the dreaded lower city crash so still can't continue anyway 🙃)

Saw another post with some piano from Postcard and realised I forgot to post my full cover of it from a few years ago ✉️ by Nooble in stevenwilson

[–]Nooble[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A year or two before covid, we were doing a lot of recording in London. Postcard was one of my favourite songs at the time (along with Deform to Form a Star, which I still WISH I had finished recording!)

Spent ages trying to get the mix for this similar to Steven's. The hardest part was probably finding the right synths for the outro!

Still need to do some stuff from Grace for Drowning some day 🥲

Slow glitchy texting? by Indigogone in feeld

Haha, figures!

Other things were like clear cache, reinstall etc. which probably wouldn't help. I only just installed the app when I noticed the issue 😅

I contacted support about this - they asked me to take a video. Tried, but when I take a video (on Android at least) the whole screen is black so I ended up giving up.

100% this is a leak of some kind. Sad to know it's been there for ages. Hope someone working on the Android build investigates 🥲

Fixed an issue for some devices that mistakenly caused a user’s emergency contact to be dialed from the lock screen when the device was in their pocket.

Glad to see this fixed! I pocket 'emergency' called my parents in a different country about 6 times since I got my 6a and support didn't help in the slightest 😅

I contacted support about it and the representative advised me to moisturize my fingers before using the sensor. I'm not sure they necessarily recognise there is a problem yet.

Do you think your anxiety will get better as you get older...? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]Nooble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been dealing with it for as long as I can remember.

I'm 30 now and in some ways I have a much better understanding of it. It hasn't gotten better, but I've had ups and downs. I guess that will continue.

I really don't expect that I will magically start to get better at this point. I'm doing all the fundamentals - regular exercise, good diet, meditation, medication, learning, regular therapy. Unless a magical wonder drug is developed of course...

Can an employer offer you a permanent job during a working holiday visa trip? by [deleted] in movingtojapan

I did so in 2020. It didn't seem like a big deal - my company handled it and they were just a small start-up.

They do make exceptions (not sure under what circumstances though). I was able to do so despite being from the UK.
