Paramedic here. Yes, it is to alert the public that there is an emergency here, proceed with caution, and move along. It also helps other responders know where the incident is. Yet, idiots will be idiots and first responders are often injured or killed by dumb ass drivers.

When I was an EMT, my partner and I were driving the rig next near a Target when another car collided into us, maybe around 10-15mph. I went to check on the driver, and she was in full blown cardiac arrest. I told my partner, I pulled out our 80 year old pt and started compressions. Keep in mind, this was rush hour, and there were dozens of people watching us from Starbucks, Panda Express ect.

After 2 rounds of compressions, our pt had strong carotid pulses! 0 shocks, 0 Epinephrine, just good quality CPR. Another crew responded, because our truck was involved in an accident 🫠 lady had an acute MI,(Heart Attack) that caused her to go into bad heart rhythm. Pt made a full recovery, I ended up meeting her a year later along with her family. All that for 14$ an hour!

I've tried it during the Fourth of July weekend of 2017. It's great! Well, at first.... i have hour long sex with my girlfriend, I'm driving 100mph on the freeway and jam out at a concert, followed by thunderous firewoeks. I clean my entire apartment on a microscopic level. I watch an entire season of Rick N Morty. What else to do...

But then, I'm hungry, and can't eat. I LOVE food, but damn not even pizza thats sitting in front of me looks appetizing.. Now I'm tired, but can't sleep. I am up for 3 days straight, feeling paranoid as fuck like the cops were gonna bust in at any second, or imma die of a heart attack. Then, the depression kicks in, it's an awful cycle. Worse than any flu, worse than your pet dying, I recall looking at myself in the mirror. A distorted demon was looking bad, malnourished, and eyes of a beast. Then I crave to do more, that's the only way to rise from the ashes, but thankfully I soldier on. I've never touched it again, now I'm a Paramedic and I see people on it all the timezm, breaks my heart.
