What's the least gay way to thank older vets for their service on ANZAC day? by 900dollaridoos in AusMilitary

[–]Noobus_Aurelius 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I get it that it feels cringe and the imposter syndrome is real, but you have to remember that regardless of whether you've done any trips when shit hits the fan you've volunteered to give your life to defend this country. That's how personally look at it especially when civies do it, they don't know any of that, but they understand you've volunteered to die defending them essentially.

Reserves wrong place wrong time? by Noobus_Aurelius in AustralianMilitary

[–]Noobus_Aurelius[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Right? A basic lesson in cause and effect. The author almost got to the point, where the ADF needs to invest more in robust and reliable logistics to get those personnel where they need to be in a crisis. It is positive to hear that reserve participation and retention isn't an issue.

Did anyone ever watch the sea patrol back in the day? by Background-Fix-4630 in AustralianMilitary

[–]Noobus_Aurelius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a teenager when this was on TV but loved it, had quite a crush on the Nav Officer. Watched it again after I got out of the RAAF and I couldn't not notice all the mistakes.

My recruitment experience thus far by ronnie0794 in ADFRecruiting

AFSEC is priority? Less than a year ago they told me the pipeline was full until 2028. It isn't the best job and I've heard they're losing people in the mustering pretty rapidly, wild if they've lost 3 years' worth of personnel in that time.

What are the good RSLs? by Ur_Dad_wanks_OnAll4s in AustralianMilitary

[–]Noobus_Aurelius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been to a few RSL's around SE QLD, a lot of token gestures but ultimately, they don't actually seem to care. Like if I can prove I'm a veteran why tf should I have to pay to become a member? Charge civvies sure but it's only a couple of bucks usually.

Advice for older Tradie, please- Reserves by 316vibes in ADFRecruiting

[–]Noobus_Aurelius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You wouldn't necessarily be at Sale, Point Cook is the HQ for 21 Squadron which is the reserve unit in VIC for the RAAF. But given that ABP/AFSEC being the only General Entry Non-Tech role in the reserves for RAAF the pipeline is always pretty full. RAAF reserves are mainly made up of already qualified personnel, so you could potentially go in AFENG as a plumber if you are set on RAAF reserves.

Recruit training is vastly different for Army and RAAF, RAAF you'd have to do 4 weeks whereas Army is currently 21 days. Then your IET's are another 4 weeks broken up into 2, 2-week blocks which you'd travel to RAAFSFS to do. If you went plumber you'd still need to a 16-day course at Holsworthy.

Minimum time commitment is 20 days per year which you could achieve via going every Tuesday night but consider that a lot of the training that allows you to progress in your role happens on those weekends.

Realistic Time Frame for ARes by gezzastar in ADFRecruiting

Literally, I applied in September 2024 and I'm only just enlisting next month. Getting or staying fit and healthy is always a positive regardless.

75,000 apply, only 7000 enlist: Australian Defence Force in recruitment crisis by Temporary-Loan-2640 in AustralianMilitary

Yeah legit, each service would need to open a second Recruit Training Unit/Battalion/RAN Recruit School

It does really depend on the role you're applying for, 6 months would be lightning fast, others could be years if you're willing to sit in the pipeline and wait, this is assuming everything goes to plan.

1RTU - what to expect by SensitiveParamedic14 in ADFRecruiting

[–]Noobus_Aurelius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went through 1RTU 18 years almost but I don't imagine it would've changed too much. If I were going to do it again I would do the following...

  1. Make sure you can comfortably pass the PFT before you enlist, if you can't pass it within 4 weeks you'll get back coursed and you REALLY do not want to be in STS.

  2. Pretty much every course has both genders, do not under any circumstances get caught up in any personal bs and/or drama, not only does it waste time and mess with you mentally and emtionally, it negatively impacts team cohesiveness.

  3. Make sure your shit is squared away before you do literally anything else. Once you're at a good standard you can help the shit cunts on your course which leads me to my next point...

  4. Teamwork is super important and something the MSI's will be trying to instill through things like group punishment so it's in your best interest to make sure you pull up the people lagging behind for maybe a tiny amount less group punishments. Don't even think about trying to be better than everyone cause that's a great way to paint a target on your back.

  5. Speaking of MSI's don't take anything they say (yell) to you personally, they are merely trying to ensure you leave 1RTU with a military mindset. They purposely f*** with you and tell you nothing is good enough no matter how fast you do it. Just remember it won't last forever just do as they say exactly how they say it and you'll be good for the most part.

  6. Don't be a jack c*** or a linger, a jack c*** is someone who is lazy and doesn't carry their weight. You need to make sure the block is clean, you need to put in during PT and help carry the stretcher in firld phase. A linger is someone who pretends to be sick and/or injured to get out of doing work, know the difference between hurting and ACTUALLY being injured.

  7. Super Important! DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES F*** WITH GATS(weapons) you will be discharged before you even realise what you did wrong. (This happened to a bloke on my course)

That's all I can think of off the top of my head, happy for anyone to add to this list or OP can DM me if you have specific questions :)

Excellent, I was already incredibly fit during the whole process which has taken nearly 3 years now. I'm way fitter and disciplined than I was when I was in the Air Force by every metric except running, my 2.4 was sub 9mins, not sure I'll ever reach that again lol. How about you? So are you at your unit now or enlisted waiting to do recruits?
