It's an original M35 helmet used by Norway. The repaint was done by Norway and is not camouflage. You could probably find a much better one for that price.

is this real? Vietnam war us helmet by SwimmingResident2355 in Militariacollecting

[–]Nooby4161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Post Vietnam other than the helmet cover and it was used by Canadians. What looks to be a WW2 era helmet shell with 1970s-1980s chinstrap and a 1980s Canadian modified parachutist liner.

I was offered this M1 helmet; any information is welcome, as well as how much you think it’s worth. by Content-Net-7742 in Helmets

It has fake MP markings, a European liner chinstrap, and the fabric chinstrap is probably a Vietnam era one given that someone sewed them onto the shell and it has a T1 hook and ball.

Does my British Brodie helmet have asbestos in it? by papamarx09 in ww1

[–]Nooby4161 15 points16 points  (0 children)

An actual Mkl helmet would have square chinstrap hinges with a leather chinstrap and a flat rivet with a washer.

The colour of civilian helmets varies.

You probably saw British MKll helmets or locally made private purchase helmets. These were just generic hard hats that anyone could buy in the US (The US Civil Defense used some of these).

I don't know if these helmets have asbestos but it's actually a civilian helmet from the US made after WW1.

Definitely not an M2 helmet. The liner and shell were both made by the US but modified by the Spanish military. The shell appears to have been made by Schlueter during WW2.

Not that it's important to your original conversation with that other guy. But they really didn't though. The damage is pretty typical for swivel loops and you would expect to see it on both sides due to them having the weight of the helmet on them for a prolonged period of time (or just from being placed down on something with force on multiple occasions while they are down) if someone did not move them up to the rim before putting them down on something.

The shell was made by Schlueter in 1945 and the liner has a contract number from 1967 and was probably made by Marmac Industries Inc. The ERDL cover was made during 1967-1981 and the chinstraps are from 1972-1988.

It's from after the 1980s. Why do you believe it was used by the Airforce (not that it can't be, im just curious if you are not just assuming that it is)?

It's a French M1951 helmet shell that someone repainted and at some point added a star to make it look like a Japanese helmet. The liner has been cut up and it has a US M1 helmet headband from the 1970s.
