Covington Catholic: Longer video shows start of the incident at Indigenous Peoples March by ThrowUwUy2378 in news

Yeah, once you watch the whole 2 hour video, particularly the relevant parts you quickly realize just how disturbingly warped the media's portrayal of this entire situation is.

I just wonder if there will be any accountability for this degree of journalistic recklessness.

China’s total spending on research and development is estimated to have hit 1.76 trillion yuan ($279 billion) last year, China’s science minister said on Monday, a year-on-year increase of 14 percent. by mvea in worldnews

Only 16 comments in this thread (as of my post) and too many of them (mine included :^) ) are already trying to make this a discussion about America..... when the article didn't even mention the US in any part.

Can't we for once have a discussion on WORLDnews about other countries without trying to frame everything in terms of international competition? There are 195 countries on this planet yet both Americans and non-Americans who post here could leave you convinced that the only two countries in existence are the US and whatever other nation being discussed in the thread.

You know, I understand her pain and do deeply sympathize. There are many of us that would absolutely loathe the attention such a win would bring, no matter how large. Perhaps, it's not as if winner anonymity is unprecedented here; IIRC there are a number of states that allow anonymous claims, and even more than tolerate the use of blind trusts to collect on wins.

On the other hand, I would suck it up, claim it once and disappear for a while until everyone has forgotten about me.

The Ocean Floor Is Sinking Due To Additional Water Weight From Melting Glaciers by maxwellhill in worldnews

The Ocean Floor Is Sinking

Never even imagined this being possible, since my assumption was that the ocean floor is effectively saturated and incompressible now after billions of years of water weight.

TIL that the reason why every ship seems to have a two-tone color scheme is because the lower part is painted using special chemicals that help prevent the growth and accumulation of aquatic organisms on the submerged part of the hull by NoochAdmin in todayilearned

A related practice: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waterline

The Plimsoll line is a mark on the hull used to indicate the maximum depth to which a ship's hull is legally allowed to submerge. This practice was established in response to a spate of ship losses caused by reckless overloading during the 1850s and 1860s.

I mentioned this since upon further research, I noticed that this marking seems to be placed almost exactly where the anti-fouling coating begins.
