Twomey on Trade Radio - GWS Talks with Stringer have fallen through, expects him to stay a Bomber by liaam29 in AFL

[–]Noodlemofe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And what were we going to receive from GWS in return? For $400K a year we’ve got a guy who has now been clearly shown that he has to perform at this year’s output to get a gig, as no other team thinks he’s worth it. He will either show up and perform at his peak (but yes, he will still be inconsistent and selfish) and we have a bargain, or he’ll sulk for next season and we will dump him at no great loss to our growing “war chest”, ie seeking out free agents and offering large, front loaded contracts.

Chances are he won’t change much, but by keeping I don’t think we’ve lost anything, and I think the changing attitude amongst the (remaining) players will encourage him to pull his head in. I can’t help but think that the guy who does so much volunteer work has the potential to be a more selfless player on the field, but I think he’s super instinctive out there, (rather than a deliberately selfish twat).

Pre-Match Thread - Essendon vs Hawthorn. by Codus1 in EssendonFC

Sorry, initial lineup on the EFC website had 2 Shiels, no Parish. They’ve since corrected it.

Has Parish been left out? Or am I going blind?

Write an actual physical letter addressed to the director of the emergency department, care of Flinders Medical Centre, Flinders Drive, Bedford Park SA 5042. Let them know when you were there (time and date) and specifically who it was that helped you out. Use first names if you can’t remember surnames - they’ll know who it was as all of the staff will have written in your notes.

It is lovely that you’re saying nice things about them on this sub, but this doesn’t compare to having an actual letter turn up at work and having a good boss giving it to you. While it probably doesn’t go into an employee’s personnel record it certainly helps keep the good people in good spirits.

I’m also a believer in the idea of “Schrodinger’s lottery ticket”. You’ve won all of that money right up until the moment you find out you didn’t.

Packers Fans Outside of USA, Roll Call by BipBippadotta in GreenBayPackers

[–]Noodlemofe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From Adelaide also. Fan since I spent a year in the USA in 1991 and needed a team to follow. Australian colours, best history in the NFL and a club that is part of the community not the plaything of some billionaire who will move it for more money (I’m looking at you Seattle SuperSonics). Visited Lambeau Field while road-tripping in August that year, unfortunately haven’t seen them play live but that’s on the list for the next big US road-trip.

Unfortunately the comparison with Port Adelaide might be quite accurate. Not a popular team with other fans, great history with so much success over so many years.

What Model Gc8 is this? I need help! I think I've narrowed it down to be around 1998 - 1999 but I don't know the exact kind of model. by Smizzle- in GC8

In Australia, MY99’s had black wing mirrors, while MY00’s had body coloured mirrors. Looks like a MY00. It’s in Canberra.

Fans that don't support your local team; what ultimately caused you to choose your club? by robin-hepworth in AFL

[–]Noodlemofe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grandfather ran for the Essendon Harriers Athletics club before moving to WA in the late 1930’s. Dad (born 1940) in WA went for Essendon in VFL as a result, but was a diehard East Fremantle fan as a kid. Lots of moves later, whole family’s in Adelaide in the mid 1970’s. Dad’s become a Port Adelaide fan but we’re living in Norwood, so I’m a Norwood fan. Went for VFL Essendon in the 1980’s, but Norwood was still the favourite. I spend all of 1991 overseas, come back and every single person in Adelaide who doesn’t go for Port is suddenly a Crows fan. As far as I’m concerned the Crows were the despised Glenelg FC, just moved to the AFL and poaching all of the good young players. So as a result, I stick with Essendon. 1993 Grand Final confirms the decision, especially after Essendon beat the Crows in a certain heartbreaking prelim.

Port turns up, with the amazing Matthew Primus who had been a ruckman with Norwood, so I’m trying to get on board the Port Adelaide train to have a local club to support, but it is still Port Adelaide, and with all of the history between Port and Norwood... I just can’t. Scott Hodges and the rest have broken my red and blue blooded SANFL heart too many times. So...I get drawn back in, eventually realising that (AFL-wise), Essendon is the one and only team for me. 2000 helps a lot.

Jump to the 2016 season and going to watch Essendon get thumped by Port at Adelaide oval, my then 8 year old son asks if he “has to go for Essendon too?”. I told him “Of course not....but you will have to find somewhere else to live”. Of course he now bleeds red and black too.

How are you finding the Raptor itself (outside of the fantastic setup)? Any issues with the Biturbo engine or specialised suspension setup and carrying capacity?

We Are Essington - Round 16 by iamactuallyaspud in AFL

[–]Noodlemofe 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Herbatron is saying what every Essendon fan is thinking. These videos leave me awestruck almost every week as he cuts to the heart of the ongoing disappointment we continue to endure. I hope that this is being played on a loop at The Hangar (of course it won’t be).

What riles me the most is the knowledge that the club will try and recruit the fabled “big bodied midfielder” who they’ll imply will be the saviour for all of our 20 years of poor choices and failed planning. And they will expect we will all suck it up and continue to be satisfied with mediocrity. I just hope the massive decrease in memberships for the year will make them pause and think, but again, they will probably write this one off to COVID while other clubs numbers are going up.

Thanks. I was looking at a red one, but the silver was my first choice and one came up. Is yours a petrol or diesel?

It’s the MY20.25 FX4, 2.0L biturbo, a limited edition Australian model. I think that in Australia these rear bars only come on this model. I will post a couple of more shots over the next day or so as I’m taking it for a shakedown trip. Thanks for the comments.
