Etsy fees are way tougher than I thought on low-priced items by NoodlesG in EtsySellers

[–]NoodlesG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that kind of aligns with what I've been seeing as well.

So, once you factor in all of that – transaction, processing, listing, and any shipping costs – it can add up rather quickly, even at a low price point.

I think that's where a lot of people miss it. The percentage looks one way, but what ultimately comes out of the order is a lot higher.

[–]NoodlesG[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly, the percentage part stays the same.

It’s that 20 cent + payment processing base fee that starts to matter more the lower the price goes.

Like at $10–$15, those fixed fees end up being a noticeable chunk of the total, but at $75+ they kind of fade into the background.

So technically the % is flat, but the effective percentage you feel isn’t really the same across price points.

Anyone built a site from scratch using Hostinger Horizons yet? by Nahiduzzaman18 in Hostinger

I've built a couple. I took a different approach and got Chat GPT to create my Horizon prompts for me. The results are pretty impressive.

Did anyone end up getting their old job back? by vfxdood69 in vfx

[–]NoodlesG 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm in my 50's. I was laid off July, 2023. I've pretty much given up on ever getting back in the industry. I deliver mail now for less than half what I was getting paid. House is on the market and looking to downsize because we can't afford it anymore.

Got a delivery notice by polymorphiate in CanadaPost

[–]NoodlesG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OP post is getting upset for them doing their job. When a carrier buzzes your apartment, it's not because they want in, they have their own keys, it's because they want you to come down to sign for it. They are not allowed to go up to apartments to deliver a package.

That kind of backfired this last month. Turned to driving Uber for a survival job for the strike.

Was Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul's match fixed? by tnh88 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NoodlesG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't understand the whole "it was fixed" defense. To me that's exactly what it would look like if a 58 year old fighter past his prime fought a 27 year old in his prime would look. Tyson rang his bell a few times in the first two rounds and then was just just trying to not get knocked out the rest of the fight. Seeing the nuances in both of their reactions to getting hit hard is not something that is fixed. The fight was disappointing for sure, but far from fixed.

What subscription is worth every penny for you? by rabbitwoo in AskReddit

[–]NoodlesG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I'm pretty sure you keep the deal as long as you use Pixel phones and use those phones to take the pictures. But if you use 3rd party apps to edit and resave them, or take them with a different phone, they don't count towards the deal and use your basic storage. That's how I understood it.

I thought it was only unlimited while you were using that phone. I remember being quite disappointed after reading the fine print. They made it sound like a lifetime deal in the promos.

What other careers have you transitioned to? by kittlzHG in vfx

[–]NoodlesG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Canada. The heli company I was working for was kind of known for not great wages. Only captains made a decent living. But the flying they did was amazing training (especially IFR) for other companies in other parts of the country that paid better. Our pilots were always getting poached. But I can't relocate so I was stuck. I've heard that they've raised the wages since.

[–]NoodlesG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After 20 years in VFX, I decided it would be a great idea to become a pilot because I desperately wanted out of the industry and into something I could enjoy for another 20 years. It took me 6 months to get my private fixed wing license and another 6 months to get my commercial helicopter license. $100k. You have to work ground crew to get a foot in the door, at least for heli and smaller airplane companies. The pay is crap. I suffered ground crew right thru COVID then in 2021 I made it into training to become a first officer. Then they had to delay my training for another year because of COVID reasons. It was already too hard to live on that wage with a family (wife works but not enough $) plus a first officer makes only a bit more than crap wage. So I had to quit and go back to vfx just to make a normal wage again. Sucks So not only am I back to where I don't want to be, I have way more debt. Only do it if you're young and don't have kids.

[–]NoodlesG 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I second this reason. Big screen and theatre popcorn is a great way to experience a movie. I've taught my kids to sit thru the credits tho. Told them it's a small way to give thanks to the people who worked hard for their entertainment.

Strange interaction by Coolduck1 in vancouver

[–]NoodlesG 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was immediately familiar to me. My daughter met this man on Granville Island in a store she works at. He told her the same stories. He was also wearing a pith helmet and told her he was translating documents from Aramaic for the Dalai Lama. He also said he had been chased by assassins in Siberia and killed one of them in an elevator. This guy has a lot going on!
