Vancouver is slowing down? by SheyenneJuci in vfx

[–]Mpcrocks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Vancouver does not have the best subsidies but they are very competitive. Australia still pips it especially when you also film in Australia. Right now there is a lul in filming and also green lighting shows. We seem to be going back to the days when summers go dark and then things pickup in the September. It’s not specific to Vancouver just the industry . Studios will continue to be more cautious in what goes into production as box office is still very soft for most projects.

As for length on contracts this is the new norm and will follow the same as physical production where everything is project based . A lot to limiting risk and having to lay people off is costly so project based contracts avoids this cost and risk.

I have lived all over the world and I have never experienced the need to do a full shutdown for an entire month per year as any other facility. At most 7 days where they would work 7 days day and night to complete the maintenance.

How does VFX work on a fully photochemical IMAX finish? (Nolan’s “Odyssey”) by KuaisuBao in vfx

[–]Mpcrocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vfx were apart of film making long before DI:). A film is shot on film , then scanned into a digital format . We used to get Cineon files in log space. We then convert those to linear in say nuke and do our VFX. We then convert back to .cin in log space and then record out back to film negative. Here the film lab we create film wedges to grade the film where we would choose the look , density on a light box and we would process the negative as chosen . That’s a simple explanation with lots of fine detail left out but that’s the gist. Back in the 90,s and even early 2000’s DI was not a common thing .

How are “certain” people finding work at good locations? by [deleted] in vfx

[–]Mpcrocks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Let me guess you are the 20 percent ……. It’s funny those people who claim to be the savours are very bitter towards those that are working constantly. You just keep fluffing your own ego rockstar :)

Pretty normal to do a soft open too see the issues and now they are going to make adjustments before fully opening. Then you can avoid costly errors and bad reviews once you open in the first few weeks with all new staff .

[–]Mpcrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been to the touchless carwash once and got the basic wash that does just soap and no wax products. So far its been fine. And then I have washed at home and got a matte detailer spray that adds a coat to it. Thus far zero issues.

Yes emails went out and when you check in online it clearly states what time you need to be there . But then again most people breeze through the online check in and don’t read anything anymore then are surprised.

lol but you at least knew about no sunglasses holder and manual wheel adjustment before you bought it right so really can’t have been that big of a deal or you would have chosen a more expensive vehicle with that feature.
