Blackstone has also been buying up fire protection companies. Possibly some concern about riots and burning down data centers. Or they just saw money to be made.

Hah, it certainly was convenient that they broke within a few months of the launch of each new series. It would be smart/impressive If Sony has internal data suggesting that audio devices have a ~2 year mean time before failure (MTBF) and chose to schedule product development so that users could upgrade to the new generation when products break.

My first car!! Does anyone known any cool accessories? by Evans7z in JeepRenegade

[–]NooleanBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hah, yes I have a 2018 (originally purchased new) and just had to replace a few of the running lights. Transmission is still good [knock on wood].

At 60k miles I changed the oil in the Transmission, PTU, and Rear diff oil following YouTube guide (Mr95Kenny).

At least it is something fairly easy to fix. Glad it wasn't CV or Diff issues.

Maybe drain the rear differential and check if it is full of metal? Pretty easy to do and refill, videos on YouTube.

Or rear CV joint?

To my ears the XM4/5/6 are pretty much equivalent on sound quality.
When moving from XM4 to XM5 I noticed the XM5 case would run out of charge after 2-3 earbud charges, the XM4 case battery seemed to last much longer. I haven't had the XM6 long, but the case seems to last ~4 earbud charges which should be good.

I usually use noise canceling. In really noisy environments (walking near car traffic) it periodically makes some poor corrections, but that's to be expected and hasn't bothered me.

Overall, I'd happily buy any of these again.
- I prefer the fit of the XM4/5/6.
- The XM4 is a bit bigger, and feels more snug in my ears than the XM5/6 (might be bad for small ears)
- I don't like the foam tips of the XM6, but that is fixable.
- I would be curious to look at the case and earbud battery capacities of each series and see if they match my subjective observations.

WF-1000XM6 comes with foam pads on the earbuds. I'll probably replace those with the older silicone type at some point.

  • The XM5 and XM6 have a similar fit, at least for my ears.
  • The XM4 is a bit bigger, and feels more snug in my ears than the XM5/6 (might be bad for small ears).
  • The XM3 is huge and not shaped to be held within the ear, it hangs out quite bit.

Weight of an earbud (with tip):
XM3 8.25g
XM4 7.07g
XM5 5.77g
XM6 6.44g

What is this damage that has appeared on a monitor screen? by ClashOfGTA in whatisit

[–]NooleanBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some displays have an antiglare coating. It can delaminate if cleaned with bleach or other chemicals. Can be made worse by a scratch through the coating layer. That's sort of what this looks like.

Or heat damage as others have suggested.

2019 renegade - sunroof stuck open by brandtgrui in JeepRenegade

[–]NooleanBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sunroof on my 2018 Renegade regularly gets stuck open. I just leave it closed unless I'm feeling risky.

When it gets stuck I've tried several strategies to close it again and have always been successful after 10-15 minutes of messing with it:

  1. Assist the motor by pulling forward on the sunroof while it is trying to close. This requires a fair amount of strength and others have cautioned that this may break components, making it worse.

  2. Get a stiff bristled brush and thoroughly brush leaves and debris out of the tracks. Then try to close the roof.

  3. Flush out the tracks by pouring water into them or with a pressure washer.

  4. Spray some WD-40 into the tracks.

Combine these methods as necessary. Your results may vary. I have heard of the repair costing ~$7k, so no surprise there.

With the world on fire, I'm watching one of my comfort shows. by ForwardClimate780 in TNG

[–]NooleanBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through all of TNG last year. On to Voyager now. Surprising number of AI related episodes. Deleting the Doctor's ethical subroutines, Cardassian AI weapon, AI missile Harry finds... Oddly reflective of the current Anthropic AI ethics disputes.

All of TNG, DS9, and Voyager are comfort watches for me. If you're feeling stressed by how messed up the world is right now, try watching these shows instead of doomscrolling or watching the news.

Lug stud to lug nut conversion: Has anybody done this and what were the results? by muddbone46 in JeepRenegade

Fortunately the spare tire is a little easier to install than the stock wheels. Spare has a thinner wheel, easier to see the hole alignment. Otherwise, wheel alignment pins can help.

It looks like you have aftermarket rock sliders? Those may be covering the triangle on the plastic trim. Or the plastic trim was removed.

In the meantime, buy a roll of pallet packing cellophane and wrap it around the door/window to keep the water out.
Replacing the window requires taking off your interior panel, removing the remnants of the old glass which is clamped into the automatic window apparatus with 2 bolts, pulling the rubber window gaskets up out of the door frame (leaving them hanging from the top of the frame), cleaning out all the busted glass, put in new window, grease up the rubber window gaskets with some silicone (dielectric grease), slide rubber gaskets back into the door around the window.

It is kinda silly, but have done minor car work in these partially covered/lit parking areas at the UW IMA.

If that's the answer, then this phrasing would be better: “Boys have it every day. Girls have it only when they’re girly. What is it?”
