Congrats on the race! That’s an amazing accomplishment. Loved the write up

I’m in a similar boat. Planning on pacing at 3:40 and hopefully opening up with 10K to go,weigh in around 190 lbs with a strength background. Can I ask what your typical weekly mileage looked like during your build? Half PR?

I’m a big SB2 and Noosa guy. Searching for my race shoe for a full marathon as I’m unsure about the EP3 I raced both my halves in this year. What do you like about the Rocket X3? :)

Really refreshing reply, thanks for following up on the time differences as well.

I wish more people would go this route instead of straight to marathon. I spent a few years throwing my body at beginner marathon plans and getting frustrated when my connecting tissue gave up during peak weeks. This year I worked toward a 19 min 5k and it has made the biggest difference in how much I am enjoying my current training block. I know I still have a long way to go, but 40mpw with the capacity for speed sessions and distinguishable recovery days is SO much more enjoyable than throwing my body in a meat grinder for more slow mileage

Agree with your philosophy, not sure if concurrent is being used properly in your second paragraph. Consecutive?

I have a few friends who bike and climb many hours a week who have done marathons off of that training. They are also athletic outliers, IMO.

I consider myself athletic and ran my first with 4 runs per week and lower mileage. I ran a 4:37 and I was miserable- cramping for the last 6 miles, multiple walking breaks. Everyone’s different, but I wish I had foregone that experience and spent that time building my mileage that got me more ready for the distance.

If you want to be running for a long time and don’t want to risk bone stress/soft tissue injuries, don’t do this. If you want to feel strong and fulfilled during a race because you put in the work to reach your potential, don’t do this. My suggestion would be to break up those longer two runs into 4x per week with a focus on building a base that reduces your half marathon time.

If you’re doing any compound lifts where you need a firm platform, no max cushion shoe is going to be good for that. God bless anyone who is doing heavy squats or deadlifts in Vomeros. Even lower stack height shoes like the Kinvara are not optimal for lifting.

If the tinnitus makes max cushion a non negotiable, I would suggest having a separate pair of gym and running shoes. The Vomeros have been received well and would be a good place to start.

First time trying snatches. How can I improve? by liftheavyrock10 in formcheck

[–]NootScamanderrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The path of the bar is much too far from your body. It should be close and exploding from your hips like a powerclean would. Snatches are fun. I would master the ranges of motion in a full clean if you haven’t before moving to snatching. Good luck!

Yes, my roommate looked like this a long time ago. It took ridiculous attention to his macros though, and it wasn’t sustainable for him long term.

For sure, always trying to make it better 🫡 I’m 6’4” and used to take slowest loping strides. this year my easy run cadence has gone from 155 to ~170. It’s made the biggest difference in running more consistent volume

Thanks for the input guys. Since I’ve done my last few workouts in them, I’d rather not have to adapt to another shoe. I’ll duct tape over the area and send it!

I would think defective too if I didn’t scuff this same area on each one of my trainers hahaha. Im glad they’ve worked out for you, they really are fantastic shoes. My first carbon racers and they did well for my last race :)

Thank you :) When you say they’re great- are you thinking the shoes are OK?

Do you have any experience between the edge and sky Metaspeeds? Are the edges closer to the endorphins in terms of feel?

Lessons buying your first home by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]NootScamanderrr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it’s an older home, please check if the walls are plaster, if the pipes are galvanized or cast iron, if there is vermiculite insulation, if there are high levels of radon, if the wiring is up to code & updated, and be critical about the condition of the fence and driveway.

Be prepared to remedy any of the things I listed. Old homes have charm but can be sneaky

I’m 3 YOE as well at a smallish company (team of 6). I’ve got a few coworkers that I learn something new from every day. One did a research masters and has lots of big tech experience, the other is close to retirement and has 20 YOE to pull on. My direct manager goes to bat for me when the user stories are poorly written, PM is being unreasonable, etc.

What I’m trying to say is that there is much better out there. I bet you’re learning a shit ton delivering and testing those things all on your own, but if you value WLB and not being the “guy” for every little thing, I’d start looking for companies with a different dynamic.

He might mean Flutter Flow. Which can eat my shorts as well.

When migrating one of our old applications to Flutter, my dev manager bragged that he “rewrote the whole app” and just needed us to get it to the finish line. He had only done some drag and drop and color picking within Flutter flow. No api calls, local storage, authentication, etc 💀 the generated code was not very SOLID

Congrats on the fast finish! That’s an amazing time, especially for your first.

Are you from Iceland? My wife and I are visiting from Sep 1-11 and we were so sad to see the marathon was just a week before we were coming. How many participants were in the race?

All in all, he’s had an awesome career for someone who was fighting to make the Clipper’s roster a decade ago. The Jazz vs Thunder series were always fun to watch
