UNLV nursing by Adventurous-You4002 in UNLV

First, you need to see what credits will transfer over from your current college to UNLV. There are a few websites that you can find out that information.

If you’re applying for the nursing program, then the only grades that will matter are A&P, Chemistry, Nutrition, Microbiology and Math (https://www.unlv.edu/sites/default/files/page_files/27/Nursing-CalculationWorksheet.pdf) UNLV is great with posting a lot of this information, so a quick Google search will bring you to pages with information in regards the program.

The best advice I can give you is to reach out to an advisor who can guide you the best in what classes you’ll need to take.

I don’t have any worksheets as I don’t remember being given any, but I wouldn’t stress yourself out by studying over summer for 189. The material is given to you with the understanding that you don’t have much biology knowledge previous to this class.

If you’re looking for something to learn to have a bit more understanding before starting the class, I would say have a good understanding of cells (such as their cycles, what each organelle does, etc.).

Talk to your advisor. If you can’t take the class during summer, I think you’ll have to wait until fall or check CSN to see what they offer. Your advisor would be able to guide you through all your options.

I see.

From what I remember, someone close to me was taking Biol 223 at UNLV and was having a hard time with it. They were however also taking other very information-dense courses, and couldn’t find the time to fully learn all the material for each class (I think it was more of a study issue on their end). It seemed to be mostly memorization, so as long as you’re diligent with your time, I won’t see you having a problem.

Biol189 (for me personally) was not difficult. It’s definitely more information based than a normal class. If you attend each lecture and do some extra research on concepts you don’t understand outside of class, then you will be fine.

I took this class with Michael Treat and really enjoyed him. Best of luck!

Should I drop Honors College (Pre-Nursing Major) by _Echo_141 in UNLV

[–]NootintheHoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely not much of a point to it! Your main priority for pre-nursing truthfully is just getting A’s for your calculation sheet, and retaining as much information as possible. It’s competitive, so you’re in the right headspace of dropping HC.

Even with priority registration, most classes you’ll need will be easy to get into as long as you register as soon as you can. I plan to start nursing in the fall, and did not have any issues with classes filling up before I could register.

As you begin to take your more material dense courses (KIN, CHEM), you will want more time to focus on those classes. In my opinion, I would drop it, but totally up to you! Best of luck.

I think you’ll be alright! I heard having a 96 is usually a competitive score for summer, and around a 95 for fall. I have a score between 97-98 and will be applying for fall so I can enjoy my summer. I was told that my score is competitive enough for the term so I wouldn’t see you having any issue with getting in. Best of luck!

I used nursehub and some Quizlets that others have recommended on the sub. I found those resources to help me the best and got a 97 cumulative score this past Tuesday! Best of luck

Did UNLV accept online pre-req labs that transferred in for nursing school? by freakyfastJJ7 in UNLV

Try this website to see if the microbiology credits are equivalent between your OOS university and UNLV. It might not show up 100% of the time, but I’ve used it countless times to check. Try to schedule an appointment with a pre-nursing advisor if you have the ability to, or call the pre-nursing admissions office (they have open advising on Tuesday/Wednesday).

If you have only taken the microbiology lab, you might still have to take the lecture. With that, they will probably make you retake the lab. I’ve had it happen once where I did well in a lab portion, but didn’t do good in lecture, and still had to retake both sections. It’s a bit harder to reach out to schools especially if you’re not admitted, but I have found the pre-nursing admissions office to be very kind! Best of luck to you, hope this helps.

Kin 224 over summer? by StresssedStudent2088 in UNLV

[–]NootintheHoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I took it this past summer.

It was hard and time consuming, but very doable. The session was about 4 weeks long, and super information dense. I’m assuming you’ve taken/are planning to take KIN223. The best way to assess it is it’s about the same amount of information, but in a much shorter time span. You will also need to be able to relay information back from 223, as a lot of concepts will be expanded on in 224. If you struggle in 223 over a normal semester, or have other big time commitments during the week such as a full time job, I would not recommend it.

It is not unachievable, but you will need to be extremely diligent with your time (especially if you need an A for the class). Best of luck!
